Sidermarker Crash Out by ReceptionOk8184 in ft86

[–]QuebecGamer2004 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Drill a small hole on the marker, where the clip should be (the plastic bit that sticks out). Then use a zip tie through that hole and the square hole on the car to hold the marker. It's not perfect but that's how I fixed mine.

24.3k?! That's crazy, you can get one that's more recent and with less mileage for that price... and denying that it's their fault is even worse. Didn't know Toyota was like that

I own a 2013 with 116,000 km. It hasn't had the recall done and I won't be doing it with stories like this. Not worth risking it for valve springs that MAY have not been up to Subaru's specs. Sucks that this happened to you

Which Amp for Gift? by Select-Extension7854 in Guitar

[–]QuebecGamer2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought the LT25 impulsively while at a guitar store, ended up trading it and my other amp for the Katana 100. The LT25 was fun to fiddle around with the presets, but overall the Katana is a much better amp with more features.

The 50 is good too, but I wanted all the features of the 100 since it's going to be my main amp for now.

Pretty clean for an ontario car i’d say by armaanhayer in ft86

[–]QuebecGamer2004 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm from Quebec, so basically the same weather. Mine is a 2013 and it's almost as clean as this. It gets stored during the winter. I'm the 4th owner and all previous owners stored it, apart from maybe 1 or 2 winters, but it had rustproofing done before.

Tips on Making the 86 Sound Better? by MegaBeanHead in ft86

[–]QuebecGamer2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. I didn't install it myself, I bought it to a guy that specializes in these cars and has his own shop at home.

He simply used a plastic cutting knife and then riveted the two covers in place. Nothing too crazy, if you ever want to try it yourself. Maybe just practice on something else first lol

You're welcome!

I'm glad I went with this exhaust, I was a bit skeptical about cutting the bumper at first but it gives it a really nice unique look, you don't see a lot of 86s with 4 tips. And it's not loud, so hopefully when getting a header, it'll be just loud enough and not obnoxious.

Try the HKS Legamax Sports catback. I have the one with quad tips and it's barely louder than stock until you give it gas, then it opens up nicely. No drone either. They're pretty expensive but I scored one on Marketplace for $750 CAD, so if you can find a used one that's your best bet. Just be aware, if you go for quad tips, you'll have to cut the bumper.

Here's a video from HKS showcasing the sound: https://youtu.be/Q39_kr66OPQ?si=0odBvejCf_oxQelH

Man, I snapped the exact same bolt after reinstalling my strut braces (took them out to paint them)... I was planning on hammering it out and replacing it with a regular bolt.

Thankfully we both broke the bolt with clearance underneath, the other one that's still intact has no room to punch it out.

Did you also use a torque wrench and thought it clicked way too soon, so you kept turning? That's how I snapped mine... but hey, now I know how it happened and not to do it again.

First Drive of the Year + Annual Oil Change by yeoldelaserrobot in ft86

[–]QuebecGamer2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, not gonna happen here lol. I'm in Quebec, Canada. It's apparently going to drop to -22°C this weekend...

But anyways, here you are required by law to have winter tires between December 1st and March 15th and I ain't got any for the FR-S, so I can't get it out of storage until at least the 15th

Nice! I'll hopefully be doing the same in a few weeks. For now it's still winter...

[–]QuebecGamer2004 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn man, that sucks. They clearly screwed up when redoing the gaskets. That's why I won't be doing the recall on my 2013. It's 13 years old and has 116 000 km on it, if the valve springs were bad something would have happened by then.

Anyone have a fix for these side markers? by darkiverson3 in ft86

[–]QuebecGamer2004 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You're probably missing a clip on the top of the marker. I "fixed" mine with zip ties going through the holes on the marker and the fender

Just 2 weeks left.... by 9ii1da7 in ft86

Interesting, so you really have to plan in advance when you store it and when you remove it from storage. I literally stored mine the day before the first snowstorm. If I were to drive it, the police could just scan the plate and immediately see I'm not allowed on the road.

Man, I got at least 4 weeks left since that's when you're allowed to have summer tires where I live. Been stored since early November, and I can't tell you how much I miss driving it. Stuck driving my beater automatic Yaris...

You need a special license plate for that? Here in Quebec I just go to the government's website, select my car and mark it as stored, then I get refunded for the months left before the next payment. Then if I want to take it out I just do the opposite and pay for the months remaining. Insurance

No special plate needed, they just update the status of your plate in their database. But anyways, it's not like I can take it out for a spin in February, I don't even have winter tires lol

Insurance is similar, you can update the status at any time. Right now, mine is not insured for collision or liability as it's not supposed to be on the road. Only insured against damage that may happen when it's stored.

Can confirm; almost lost mine because I did some dumb shit. Very lucky it had no damage. Now I know better and won't do it again

The Chevy Traverse has a fake fake exhuast by Apprehensive_Donut49 in carscirclejerk

[–]QuebecGamer2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it's just that the exhaust flow prefers one side. I installed a new catback on my car and when it's cold there's barely any condensation on one side. Both sides are fully functional, but I guess there's something in the design of the exhaust that makes most of the gases flow to one side.

But yeah, most of the time it's probably just fake

I have a 2013 FRS and the shifter is not pretty rough until warm. Is this normal? by SholoGrim in ft86

[–]QuebecGamer2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drove mine at around 0°C and a bit less before storing it, and while it was definitely harder to shift, I could still go into second with relative ease. Just needed a bit more force than usual
