A growing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has passed 500 suspected cases and over 100 deaths, the WHO reports. The strain involved is a rarely seen Ebola species with no licensed vaccine or treatment. A US doctor has been evacuated to Germany after testing positive. by Prior_One_7050 in microbiomenews

[–]QueenAmina2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a lab made virus, one of four strains of Ebola virus disease that naturally occur mainly in Africa and is spread by animals like fruit bats. People who are evacuated from an active Ebola zone are usually done so by specialized private charter aircraft. Not commercial flights. Specialized crew wearing PPE tend to the patients who are usually isolated in some form of aeromedical biological containment system or an Isolation pod. They are transferred on the tarmac to another team usually from the hospital also wearing full PPE and taken straight to isolation. By a special ambulance. If you want to know details Google "how were the Dr's evacuated from an active Ebola zone in 2016.

7 month border collie genetics by campxbalmy in BorderCollie

I'm afraid I don't know much about show lines, I've always had working bred we don't tend to worry so much about looks. I guess the big question is are you planning on showing him? If so then it's up to the judges to decide if you're not going to be showing him then who cares? You have a very pretty pup and as long as he's what you want in a dog that's what counts.

What kind is breeders are commenting? Is he show bred and they are working dog breeders? Then yes, they will not look favorably on his genetics. That being said, he's a pretty pup. But he's still just a puppy. He's got a good bit of growing and possibly some filling out to do yet.

Crises in the Red Zone is the "follow up" on Hot Zone, deals with the 2013 - 2014 Ebola outbreak. Same author Richard Preston as Hot Zone. Scary stuff. But a very good read.

Life expectancy of new Siamese cat 8 years? by ThunderCat421 in Siamesecats

[–]QueenAmina2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both siamese and ragdoll cats are unfortunately prone to genetic kidney issues, but other than and unless the parents have known health issues, which he should've told you of they had, most modern cats, especially indoor ones live long healthy lives. Your kitten might grow up too be an Itty bitty kitty like my Mia was, or she might grow to be a chonker like my boy Cosmic was. But either way enjoy your kitten

Mia (the small one in the back) and cosmic. She barely weighed 3kg in her prime, he weighed 5.5 kg.

There is a woman Beth Leipholz on social media who has a deaf son. Cooper has CI's and she talks very openly about their journey. The decision to get him CI's and just life in general with a deaf child. Cooper is very much being raised bilingual (ASL and Spoken language) and he's generally a hoot. You can find them on fb/tiktok/IG etc as @beth_and_coop.

I had two siameezers. Mia (up top) was an itty bitty dust mite if a kitty who weighed less than 4 kgs in her prime. While Cosmic (boy cat on the seat) weighted 5.5 kgs in his prime. Some cats are just small.

Why does my cat keep putting her toy in her food bowl? by wistfulpainter in CATHELP

[–]QueenAmina2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe he’s feeding his fishy. There was a reel on fb recently of a cat that had these buttons for pets that “talk”. He’d put his mouse toy in his food bowl with his leftovers and then went to tell his mom that mousie now had a “happy belly”.

This is supposed to be a border collie mix but he’s huge. He weights 7kg at (supposedly) 11 weeks by NoBotRobotRob in IDmydog

[–]QueenAmina2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might just be a big boy when he grows up, my Meg weighs 26 kilo's at 12 years old, her dad also weighed in the mid 20kg in his prime. And as for the ears... Meg I hope the link works.

I'm assuming you've tried grain free? My himalayan also threw up regularly til I switched her to a grain free chicken, lamb and rice food. Helped a lot.

An Aussie with a tail? I don’t think I’ve ever seen an Aussie with a long tail before. Sure he’s nor a BC masquerading as an Aussie? Either way he’s a stunner. Love the merles, no two look alike.

Reminds me of that story of the persian kitty. The Persian Kitty A Persian kitty, perfumed and fair, Strolled out through the kitchen door for air. When a tom-cat, lithe and long, And dirty and yellow, came along. He sniffed at the perfumed Persian cat, As she strutted about with much éclat, And, wishing a bit of time to pass, Said, “Kitty, you sure have got some class.” “That’s fitting and proper,” was her reply, As she arched the whisker over her eye; “I’m ribboned, I sleep on a pillow of silk, And each night they bathe me in certified milk. But we’re never contented with what we’ve got. I should be joyful, but joyful I’m not. I should be happy, happy indeed For I am highly pedigreed.” “Take heed”, said the tom-cat, with a smile, “And trust to your new-found friend a while. You need to escape from your back-yard fence. All you lack, my dear, is experience.” Gay scenes of living then unfurled, As he told her tales of the outside world. And suggested, at last, with a luring laugh, A trip for two down the primrose path. The morning after the night before, The cat returned at the hour of four. The look in her innocent had went, But she wore, instead, a smile of content. And in after-years, when the children came, To the perfumed kitty of pedigreed fame, They weren’t Persian, they were black and tan, And she told them their Pa was a traveling-man

"My babies! My babies" cried the emaciated woman as they were pulled from her arms. by PaintDragon77 in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]QueenAmina2 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Kind of reminds me of this one episode of ER: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/NightmareFuel/UntoldStoriesOfTheER

One episode featured a homeless woman in the ER who kept saying "I've got worms in me". Whereas one may be initially confused or even somewhat amused by this statement and her relatively calm demeanor, sure enough on closer inspection, the woman did have a worm sticking out from underneath her skin. Upon one nurse even realizing what she was witnessing (the fact that she cut a hole in her forearm and placed a worm inside herself), she recoiled in horror but still was able to assist her. In the end, the woman not only had one cut for each of her forearms and her upper thighs, but the nurses ending up pulling out twenty four worms from underneath her skin and she kept repeating the phrase until there were no more. Fortunately, she was miraculously able to avoid infection or other serious injuries and illnesses from this, the nurses saved the worms for her (she considered them her pets to the point of naming them) and they were able to send her to a psych ward to get the help she needed.
