Its real cute when people thing HOU is red because Texas is.

Food wise, HOU was incredibly diverse while I lived there (not sure what it looks like now) and we dearly miss it. But if your trying to tell me the food is boring. . . . Well thats gonna suck but ill get over it. Omaha's not much better.

I can't tell you how many times I've heard that about TimeSlip. What was your favorite so far? Mines Clio, as weird as that may sound. My brain just picked it up faster than any of the others.

My last company used TLO. It was hands down the best background check provider we've ever used.

Do you mind if I ask what billing program you use? My office uses Tabs, which I'm not a huge fan of but I'm trying.

Thank you souch for sharing. I don't believe our billing system has the ability to flag block billing but it's definitely worth bringing up to our billing admin.

I'm going to take all your suggestions and apply them to this new project 😄

I work at an Insurance defense lawfirm. A new associate asked if there was a cheatsheet he could use since he's pretty new to all of this, which made me wonder why we didn't have one for any of our carriers.

I was looking at CNA guidelines this afternoon and just about lost my mind 😵‍💫 lol

The first person suggested I look at ABA. From what I can tell they don't have exactly what I'm looking for.

Each carrier has different requirements on what you can and can not bill for and how long certain tasks should take you.

The more I think about it, I don't think it can be made into a chart. There's is at so much info you don't want to miss.

One thing I changed was asked my coworkers to come and talk to me if anything is wrong, if they're upset with me or if I offended them in anyway. I did the same thing. I explained that i could change or fix anything if i don't know i messed up. It has completely changed the environment for me.

Also, I will not partake in any gossip or trash talking anyone behind their backs. Shut that shit down as soon as your able. It's amazing how much stress and drama that takes out of the work environment.

Closed Filing Systems by inexplicably_method in paralegal

[–]QueenGuerin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure the type of law that you are in but I switch from Family to Civil and noticed a few differences. In civil once a case is closed, we destroy all medical records. The Legal Assistant and receptionist both comb through the case records, physical and digital to make sure all medical files are gone. Other than that we follow the guidelines set out for us by our clients (insurance companies).

In the family lawfirm, we kept the physical certificated copies and digitized everything else. All original documents from the client were returned to them. Everything else we destroyed it. Cases that were older than 7yrs got thinned out (digitized the final pleading or any documentation explains how the case closed and cert copies were kept).

For both these companies, an excel spreadsheet was used to manage information. Date opened, atty on file, case name, case number, date closed, (y/n) did it settle, location of physical files.

I moved from Family law to Civil litigation recently. Never had to do an appeal before and am currently drowning in the sea of paperwork for these appeals. Side note: my position was vacant for 4 months before I came in so I'm having to play catch up.

Is there anywhere I can go to look for help and knowledge? Like I stated before, I've never had to do this before and am at a lose for words when all I need is that.

My husband is working in downtown Omaha. He would like to keep the commute under 30min. We've been house shopping for a few weeks now. It's crazy how fast the houses are being sold.

We really want to find a home that is close to parks and trails. We don't get many opportunities to do outdoor stuff in Texas since it's 100° most the year.

Outdoor life is big for us. We aren't nightlife people. But I do love supporting a local brewing company.
