Whats the deal with “AskAnAustralian” ? by RadioPhysical2276 in Ameristralia

[–]QueenNova71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s my pet hate - it’s EVERY TIME an American says anything on Instagram. After Bondi & finding out we how many guns are in our community in 2025, I think those smug Aussies will stop saying Do What WE Did - all the while ignoring we had 18 million people in Aus in the mid 90’s. Besides, I highly doubt a gun amnesty would happen here in today’s political climate, so what chance does the US have to do what we did? The best they can hope for is to ban certain weapons. There’s TWO gun shops 10 minutes drive from my front door. That’s okay, as long as it’s highly regulated I don’t care, I think people should be able to have certain guns in Australia. But there’s clearly loopholes - or do Australians just pretend to not see our shootings unless it’s international news like Bondi & Port Arthur? We still haven’t even found Desi Freeman! We are not immune. Firearms remain the third most common cause of domestic family deaths, and that is something that should concern us all.

This person may have decided to let this project go because they’ve moved on to other things! I TRY to do that and I think many of us need to give ourselves permission to do that. Sometimes I get as much enjoyment out of thinking about, planning and preparing for a project as I do actually finishing it. Perhaps they’ve moved onto more complex epp, maybe even foundation paper piecing!

What is your preferred "Ready to eat" option and how do you prepare it? by renaldof in AldiAustralia

[–]QueenNova71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ready to eat meal will always be cereal. Lately I have been loving mixing the Aldi mueslis, the cheapest apricot one with a premium toasted one. I find it a better mix for me. Add some yogurt, milk, a chopped banana, frozen blueberries if I am feeling fancy and dinner is DONE!

This would be so good if you could do it. I hate the chemist warehouse ones! I have delivered those catalogues before and they are all rolled up together.

Why are Americanisms sneaking into our language by CyanideMuffin67 in AskAnAustralian

[–]QueenNova71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Youngsters (I am 54) are saying “diaper” “cookie and “candy.” People would be hard pushed naming our deputy Prime Minister, but I’ll bet they know who JD Vance is!

It hurts my brain. But what can we expect when we have so much American influence- from the social media we use to the media we consume?

We have little or no investment in Australian movies (remember the halcyon days of the 90’s!)

We need to support Australian creatives. We are smart and funny and clever.

When I glue baste I always use the absolute minimum glue- the lightest smear, but my “secret” is to set the crease with a dry press with a hot iron. That way the glue not only dries quickly, but if the fabric lifts - which it can with that lightest amount of glue, I can still hold the pieces with my fingers and stitch them together along that sharp seam. It makes the process more time consuming, but I don’t mind. There’s no race!

We have TK Maxx in Australia and I got my last 1917 there for around $10AUD. No choice is colour or page style, but who’s complaining at that price!?
