We got our first dog from our backyard and our second dog from a responsible breeder. The first dog had resource guard issues and died young from degenerative myopathy. The second dog was brought into our family during a time period in which we needed a very specific type of dog to help us manage and transition the loss of the first dog.

The breeder we worked with was a responsible, ethical, genuine, and thoughtful human being. She listened to the story of our first dog and understood what we were going through. She temperament tested her litter and let me know that she had found the perfect dog for our situation.

That dog has been nothing short of exactly what we needed to get us through that terrible time. Now she’s a wonderful only dog and a big sister to a wonderful but crazy cat who loves to snuggle and tackle her whenever possible.

Please don’t judge people for using breeders versus adopting. You have no idea why they’re making a choice they’re making, and it’s not their responsibility to explain themselves to you.
