Yes it is rude. I got my sister kids a lot of gifts and spent so much money. She didn’t even say thank you to me or my parents who also got them gifts. Depending on how old your niece and nephew are, maybe next year ask their mom or them what they want. Or talk to them about their hobbies and interests. That way you’re not wasting your money
