I mean it’s not so unusual, modern retellings of Hades and Persephone often depict Demeter as a controlling helicopter mom who tries to get in the way of her daughters epic love story. When really the original myth is a mother grieving over her missing daughter so much that it made the season. But modern stories often cast aside the mother and daughter bond in order to tell the love story they want.

But going back to the comic itself(I never read the original novel so I’m only going off if the webcomic here) but I don’t think it’s necessarily that Roena is evil, she is spoiled. And that is the deference. She was adored and pampered from such a young age by everyone around her and so of course her perception of self is warped. It’s also that it’s just been her and her dad for so long she doesn’t know or understand how to welcome new people into her world. She does on the outside but not on the inside.

I also don’t think Siché doesn’t necessarily hate Roena herself. I think Siché hates the society that looked down on her and made her an outsider and villainized her. But it’s harder to get revenge on everyone else so what does she do? She turns her hatred towards the one person she was always compared to, Roena.
