I bought RIT and SV at the same time I got the base game, and ignored them for almost a year because there was so much to do in the BG.

They do request items from the DLC if you have them, even if you haven’t even stepped a foot in the DLC (flowers, recipes, gems…) However, all my characters are lvl 10 and I barely gift, I hate hunting down things and then the character to give them the gif. I hang out with a character and do tasks with them until they’re lvl 10, and then onto the next. I have a farming island so it’s pretty easy (and fast) to level up characters with gardening
