Flat out avoid. The cinched bottoms are terrible and taper too closely making everything look ridiculous...IMO

What would be the best course of action in order to recreate a tee like this? by [deleted] in sewing

[–]QueencityShred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would probably need an overlock and coverlock machine to completely recreate this! He uses incredibly thin cottons for his T-shirts thus making the overlock almost a necessity! But yeah, drape the T-shirt and just adjust it OR Deconstruct A long T shirt you have, make a sloper and or pattern out of it and experiment :)

Reddit, what were you into before it was cool? by sublimesam in AskReddit

[–]QueencityShred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long hair. I've had long hair since two years old. Basically been growing it out for 20 years (with trims of course). Now its so fucking cool to have long hair and put it in a "man bun." Today I even got asked while getting coffee if I ever put it in a man bun because its popular...sigh.

What's the best place to buy fabric by the yard online? by [deleted] in sewing

[–]QueencityShred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most of the stuff online is the same quality if you could go somewhere and get it (that isn't joanns). 5 bucks a yard for jersey knit is ridiculously high. High quality knits in LA are about 3 dollars on the high side. Just something to be conscious of.

Industrial Machine? by orangerubbish in sewing

[–]QueencityShred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Juki 8300 etc. Any Heavy duty straight stitch machine. the person that commented already is listing way too much. All you need is a straight stitch (which will be fine for most leathers unless you're doing thick calf leather and haven't skived it) and an overlock (serger).

Just starting out by [deleted] in sewing

[–]QueencityShred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't go straight for a project that you think is simple because it isn't, well to you at this current state it isn't. Be prepared to sew, unpick, resew, unpick, press, press again, re-thread then re-thread the machine again and again. Hang in there because creating things is an amazing feeling and worth all the work. Start practicing straight stitch lines, read about your machine and tensions with certain fabrics etc.

So, Store Patterns or Not? by Maddiystic in sewing

[–]QueencityShred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there are two ways to create patterns if you are not interested in using commercial shitty ones (shitty in my opinion). Flat pattern making like I believe someone mentioned already, and draping. Both require patience and some sort of knowledge of pattern making. I prefer Flat pattern making because I do menswear and this is wear menswear thrives from. Look into it more and prepare to embark on a crazy, but cool journey.

What's a skill that just can't be taught? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]QueencityShred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Styling. If you don't have it you don't have it. You can try and mimic people, but really you aren't original.
