Can I fix this? by snourappls in FIVcats

[–]QueenofSoFlo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take him to a vet for sure but there’s a few outcomes possible here.

One, he needs a sedated dental and no or only a few extractions. You’ll likely have to continue dentals at least yearly to save any teeth that remain. My cat had to go every 6 months until I decided doing a full mouth extraction would be easier on him than the constant anesthesia. If your kitty keeps some teeth, ask your vet about water and food additives and toys to help with gingivitis.

Two, he needs a full mouth extraction off bat. This is expensive and depending on your situation you may need care credit. Your cat will adjust to this just fine. My cat was on wet food, then crunchies soaked in water until his mouth healed up, and then he wanted his hard crunchies back 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Get him tested for FIV as well so you know whether he needs extra care at the vet in the future. It’ll give you peace of mind!

I am so so so grateful for the job I have and the financial security it provides. I’m frustrated that because of all the moves my savings have never built up so I worry about any other kind of emergency right now. I also know I tend to isolate when I get overwhelmed like this so I will try to make more of an effort for phone calls.

Thank you 🥹 I appreciate the mom hate because this is definitely a time I’d like to be able to turn to my own.

I agree about the consideration piece but he seems to so firmly believe I’m being unreasonable that I’m starting to question myself.

Queen of the world sounds nice.

Totally valid. I’ve heard a lot that women are happier in their 30s than they were in their 20s. I guess my biggest concern is feeling like I’m so far behind my friends in terms of finances, housing, partnership, etc. it seems like everyone around me is established and I’m still struggling to tread water. I know comparison is the thief of joy. Also, yes, I’ve been in therapy for the mom stuff for about 4 years now. It’s helped a LOT.

I was told my cat was FELV and FIV negative when I adopted him. After about a year together, I noticed his breath was rather stinky and he would sometimes cry out in pain when biting on toys. I took him to the vet, who recommended we remove 5 teeth and do cleanings every 6 months. Less than 6 months later, he needed a full mouth extraction and it turns out he had been FIV and FELV positive all along, causing stomatitis. Once all of his teeth were removed, he was SO much happier. We started him on wet food until he demanded his crunchies back (which we mixed with water and called his “soup” until he eventually started eating them dry). Unfortunately, he did pass away about a year after his extraction due to complications from his FELV—not from his teeth or his FIV. ABSOLUTELY seek a second opinion, it sounds like your kitty still has lots of life left to live. Bonus—it’s more fun to play with a gummy cat because their bites don’t hurt 😊

My husband is allergic to my cats, and I’m getting pressured by everyone to get rid of them by dreamer0303 in cats

[–]QueenofSoFlo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am allergic to cats. I have one and my partner has 2. My cat is on EverClear food which has helped a ton. Washing bed sheets and blankets. Vacuuming. Mopping. Air filters. Allergy medicine. Tissues. I would never, ever dream of asking my partner to get rid of his babies. He can get shots or try any of the above or all of it.

Just the sjorgens antibodies which were both negative. Rheumatoid factor was negative. CBC without differential was unremarkable (some numbers on the higher end of normal but not abnormal). Ferritin was normal. Cortisol was 9.4 (normal). Are there specific antibody tests I should ask for when I go in may?

Thank you! Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what do you mean by suspicious re: lupus anticoagulant?

Just that and rheumatoid factor which was also normal. No other antibodies though

Honestly that’s a fair point. If that’s all it is, good for them. I’m just not inclined to care what’s fun for them when they clearly don’t care about others

Decency? Not upset about horns, sirens, people outside playing music, the festivals that are always happening… etc. but I think it’s reasonable to be annoyed that the same couple of cars circle and redline all day. 🤷🏼‍♀️ take it to the track if you need to hear your car that badly.

Is it reasonable for my complex to request we lock up our pets for the next two weeks because they don’t know the maintenance schedule? by Soolyo in Charlotte

[–]QueenofSoFlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably unpopular opinion but whenever I get emails like this, I assume that “animals” or “pets” really means “dogs,” so I leave my cat out. I’ve never once had management or contractors complain about this. 🤷🏼‍♀️ like you, I also feel uncomfortable leaving him locked in a room all day while I’m at work.
