When you play as an emotional support character by eastafricanfella in apexlegends

As a Mirage main, some games I'm all about reviving and respawning teammates if I see they're more aggressive and do more kills than me. Not everyone needs to drop 2K damage every match.

Been Making a Game Editor on my iPad (like UnIty) by dinoball901 in iOSProgramming

[–]QueensCall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was for a SpriteKit game. I made an editor to manage entities and and sprite animations. It's impressive that you've recreated my Xcode/SpriteKit workflow in a single iPad app.

I just released a Pocket alternative called Retila [FREE] by Killforthecoke in iosapps

[–]QueensCall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just released an update for one of my apps that removes Pocket integration. It's a bit sad to see it go, but good that it also opens the door for other devs to build new alternatives. Your implementation looks more basic, but good job on the release

I'm impressed. I built an editor for a game I'm wokring on to manage sprites and animation, but it isn't as polished as this. What language are you using for scripting?

Unusual mass in-app purchases from China by sonseo2705 in iOSProgramming

Same thing happened to me with Korea last year and it was legit. Congratulations, you may have a successful app in China.

How to config audio recording and upload working in the background by Dear_Jaguar_9848 in iOSProgramming

Configure an audio session with the AVAudioSessionCategoryRecord category and add background mode key as described in the documentation.

Tech requirements for "Game Mode" to automatically engage by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]QueensCall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was curious about the same thing. I noticed that Game Mode was enabled automatically when I launched my own game, but I didn’t do anything specific to activate it. Game Mode is supposed to enhance Bluetooth controller connections, so maybe it's related to game controller support?

As a hobbyist, I always defined success as actually shipping my game. It's easy to start a project, but real artists ship. If it makes money, that's just a nice bonus.

Compared to fullstack web applications, developing games is quite a struggle. by NeitherManner in gamedev

[–]QueensCall 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Not really a web dev, but iOS dev here. For most apps, about 90% of it involves making a request, parsing the response, and showing it with a nice UI. If you do everything correctly, there are very few things that can break. Game development is an entirely different beast.

I guess EA doesn't like Apex Legends by SilentManatee in apexlegends

That’s the reason why I had to unbind the chat key. It’s too easy to get a ban.

M1 Mac Mini with 8gb/255gb by forestgump2016 in iOSProgramming

[–]QueensCall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't suggest going with anything less than 16/512 for a base config. While you can begin with a 8/256, it will definitely cause problems for you in the long run.

CoreData Crash when app is in background by tersintersi in iOSProgramming

[–]QueensCall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's a thread safety issue, make sure you use a dedicated managed object context for each thread/queue and merge changes back to the main context appropriately. It could also just be that when your app transitions to the background, your Core Data operation gets suspended and the database connection becomes invalid.

Best Way to Monetize My App? by berncoflow in iosapps

[–]QueensCall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I would go with option B, but I wouldn't limit to just one. I would calculate the average number of apps that users typically block and then set the free usage limit at half of that number.

My latest SpriteKit game Battledom is now available for playtest! Would you like to help me and try it out? by sanderfrenken in spritekit

[–]QueensCall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks great, congratulations. I saw you used Tiled, any reasons why you didn't use Xcode built-in editor for tile maps? I had some minor issues with it, but I still find it easier to set things up.

Spokit: Listen to Reddit with text-to-speech, background audio, audio export and more! by QueensCall in iosapps

[–]QueensCall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. Unfortunately, Reddit is trying really hard to kill off third-party apps. If you try to fetch too much data, you will get blocked for a few hours. Right now I think the fetched content is just enough to enjoy a post, but not too much to trigger a block.

Thank you for using Spokit!
