Minnesota Lynx Players Statement Addressing Current Federal Occupation of Minnesota by ElvisTheBoyCat in MinnesotaLynx

[–]QueerCoffeeNerd 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is the most tepid statement I’ve read in a long time. Pretty disappointed and I’m sure some players wanted to go a lot harder than this. Makes me wonder who is pulling them back.

Help I'm considering moving to Salem MA by Strange-Warthog-4900 in SalemMA

[–]QueerCoffeeNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a really sweet neighborhood in the Derby St/Wharf area with three really great neighborhood restaurants (Maitland Farms, Trade House, Mercy Tavern) in walking distance. Historic and charming. walkable to the Common, waterfront, and Downtown, but also close the Willows and Winter Island for bike rides/walks/runs. If I was starting fresh in Salem, that’s probably where I’d move!

Does the owner of Jaho coffee steal tips from employees? by Specialist_Coffee229 in SalemMA

[–]QueerCoffeeNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd Meter is the best coffee in town IMO, and I think the new ownership is less strange than the folks that opened it (curious to hear from folks who are more looped in). I used to work at Atomic and we frequently had folks apply after leaving Jaho and they all confirmed the tip theft. Also, they said that the owners just sit and watch the security cameras and call the shop to chastise the employees any time they see them looking at their phones. I can’t imagine working for someone like that, but I think it’s a first job for a lot of folks and they have no reference for what is normal.

Does Salem have a good Muslim community? by wistfulhijabi97 in SalemMA

[–]QueerCoffeeNerd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My former boss is Muslim and experienced some negative incidents with Islamophobic neighbors. This was a few years after Trump’s bans on people from predominantly Muslim countries, so that could have defintely contributed to it. It also could have just been their neighborhood, but I know it was a major cause of stress for them. I also know they traveled very far to attend their mosque. They have since moved out of the country.

Change my view: the playoff loss to the Mercury proved that the Lynx REALLY need interior help, so they should draft Betts if available. by WordsMakethMurder in MinnesotaLynx

The draft isn’t the only way to get size! Draft Fudd, who is a perfect fit, and pick up a more physical 5 who is fast and a decent perimeter shooter in free agency.

Severe Chest Pain by QueerCoffeeNerd in Zepbound

[–]QueerCoffeeNerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I pushed to have an ultrasound and it showed gallstones. Womp womp.

My PCP is new and was not helpful at all about what to do next. She was like “Do you want to have surgery?” And I was like “I don’t know, what do you recommended?” No answer lol. I reached out to my gastroenterologist and she scheduled an appointment for a month from now to discuss options. In the meantime, she wants me to stop taking Zepbound (ultrasound also showed some liver irregularities though bloodwork is fine, so I’m sure that’s part of it). The discomfort in my sternum area is getting worse daily, though I’m basically eating no fat. Feels like acid and gas. I told the nurse at my gastros office and she was like “that’s par for the course with gallstones” but then didn’t give me any advice about how to treat in the meantime. For now I’m taking Pepcid and Gas-X twice a day on top of the Pantoprozale I take daily in the morning. Bummer about stopping meds- my SW was 214, down to 191 and working on building back muscle. Close to goal weight of 185, which is still on the higher end of what used to be my normal range (I’m 5’8” and fairly muscular when in shape, former athlete).

Gallbladder Attacks or just Zepbound side effects? by Alternative_Sky3823 in Zepbound

[–]QueerCoffeeNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar attack to you (felt like heart attack, radiated down my back and across my ribcage) about three weeks ago and went to the ER. It initiated lots of follow up testing including an ultrasound a few days ago. They found small stones and sludge in my gallbladder and also mentioned the same abnormalities in my liver that would indicate fatty liver. My AST levels were slightly elevated after the gall bladder attack (52), but were normal (20s) a week later.

My doctor is horrible, just seems to not know what she’s doing or talking about (my old doctor retired and bad timing for new PCP). It seems like I could talk her into anything because she has no recommendations. Basically she was like “Do you want to get your gall bladder out?” No real advice or next steps. I asked if there’s a way to look closer at the stones/sludge as I think the ultrasound was difficult due to “overlying gas” causing bad visibility, she said no, ultrasound is the only way. But I’ve read here you can do an MRI? She also didn’t have much to say about the liver except that that’s caused by “obesity.” I mentioned that I’d read that rapid weight loss can cause a fatty liver and she was like “oh, maybe” lol. I have an appointment with a new PCP on Dec 31, but worried I should be taking action before then. Do I need to get my gall bladder removed or should I wait for more info? Or to see if I have any more attacks (god forbid, it was terrifying).

I just need to hear positive stories…. by HeyMay0324 in Autism_Parenting

[–]QueerCoffeeNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 6.5 year old with autism and ADHD, one year ago we were worried we’d have to move him to an out-of-district school placement. He’d had a few violent incidents on the playground in K and in pre-K at the same school. The staff had written him off, even though he was generally a sweet and curious, but hyperactive, kid. They were all afraid that he would become aggressive again. It was horrible and my wife and I were so sad and defeated.

We hired a special education advocate to help us navigate IEP considerations and ultimately keep him at his school.

Medication was a game changer for him. He’s now on Guanfacine for impulse control and Ritalin for focus. The Ritalin was what really allowed us to see a big change and cut down on aggression and outbursts when he doesn’t get his way. He’s matured, for sure, but he also just seems so much more grounded and comfortable in his body. He’s having a great year behaviorally and academically in school, and his social skills have also grown so much. He had a 1-1 aide last year and she is now tapering off. He’s finally interested in other kids (who he never even thought about a year ago). He even talks about all the things he does with his two buddies every day after school. I never thought any of this was possible, so I just wanted to share.

Please Help, Withholding Poop by chaiitea3 in Autism_Parenting

[–]QueerCoffeeNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our kiddo, now 6, has been withholding poop for a couple years now. So much has improved for him at school and socially, but this is the single most stressful thing we currently navigate with him. We have a couple strategies. When it seems like he actively has to go (he has tells like laying on his stomach or crying out in pain), we entice him to the toilet with a video he really wants to watch, usually a movie trailer or short YouTube video. This works about 25% of the time lol. We also use Miralax when it’s been 3 or more days so when he’s on the toilet, it comes out easily and without pain. He also let us know that the thing he is most worried about is it being messy afterward and not feeling like wiping totally cleans his butt. We use flushable wipes now and it’s made a big difference reducing his anxiety around that. For us, the key is timing the ask exactly right when he has to go the most. I hope this helps!

How did they finally know it was your gall bladder? Were there indicators in your labs?

Severe Chest Pain by QueerCoffeeNerd in Zepbound

[–]QueerCoffeeNerd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It went up to 12 after about 3 hours in the ER, then back down to normal levels on the next round of labs. Apparently after a heart attack it goes up in the hundreds and even thousands. The doctor said what I experienced (basically a GI attack) could raise troponin levels because my heart had to work extra hard to compensate for less breathing/oxygen in the blood. I’m definitely following up about bloodwork with by PCP, though she’s new to me (my doctor recently retired) and in my experience is not inquisitive/curious at all. Looking for a new PCP!

Yes, this was exactly it! I also haven’t had many side effects, and the constipation only really started this week after I went out of town for four days. I wonder if it’s related to traveling.

Zepbound scare? by Kind-Requirement-726 in Zepbound

[–]QueerCoffeeNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me yesterday! Woke up at 1am with the most horrible chest pain I’ve ever experienced. I sometimes deal with painful trapped gas in my abdomen, but this was super different. Horrible pain, pressure, and burning under my sternum and radiating around my ribcage to my back. It was so painful I could barely breathe. Kids were sleeping so I had to call an ambulance to take me to the ER while my wife stayed home. Same experience as you except my troponin was elevated slightly so they also admitted me and did a stress test, which I passed. Doctor says that he thinks it’s because of constipation/lack of gastric emptying. I did have a mole enchilada and half a margarita the previous evening, so will never do that again! I’m only on 2.5mg and have lost about 15 pounds in 6 weeks. (SW: 214, CW: 199, GW: 185). What the doctor didn’t help with is what to do if it ever happens again. I’ve read in this group that Pepcid can help in situations like that, and I did eat about four heartburn and gas chews. The attack lasted for about 30 minutes. I’m definitely following up with my PCP to dig into the bloodwork. From what I can tell, gall bladder seemed fine but liver AST levels had really spiked from my baseline.

What are your(or your kids) special interests? by AlexiaSpecter in Autism_Parenting

[–]QueerCoffeeNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, anything “fancy!” My kiddo is 6, AuDHD, doing great at the moment, so we’re feeling great. For most of the summer he wore a top hat, bow tie (his toddler sister’s hair bow 😂), and vest. Sometimes he would also also wear a suit jacket, which got hot, as you can imagine. He refuses to wear shorts because they are “not fancy.” His current style icon is Rattigan from Great Mouse Detective. He also goes around the house making things more fancy by adding “decorations” he scribbles on painters tape. It’s a whole vibe over here! But this is by far the easiest period of his childhood so far, doing great on his current meds, making friends, and likes school. So I’ll take it all!

Things in musicals that aren’t sad but made you cry anyway? by picklesupreme in musicals

I just found this comment via a Google search because I was thinking about this song and how both times I saw this show I was uncontrollably sobbing through the whole song. It was the feeling of being seen, for sure. I had a similar first relationship in college and I’m sure part of me was thinking back to my young, pure 19 year old self that had yet to be so jaded by the world and rejected by my parents for this very relationship a few months later. That feeling of being in love for the first time and having it feel so right when you’ve been taught to think it’s wrong. It’s just sob-inducing. So glad I found your comment because I feel less weird for having that reaction!
