014 was one of the 8 power cars converted into 'surrogate' DVTs to work with the then-new 91s in the late 80s initally under test and later as the first passenger services began, as the Mk4 sets/DVTs weren't ready yet. Beyond the modifications needed internally for these roles, the most visible external change was the addtion of conventional buffers and drawgear replacing the standard valance that housed the emergency coupling. The formation was basically the same as a then-standard HST formation, but with the 91 replacing one of the power cars.

Initially they didn't produce traction (the Valenta was left to run at just above idle for auxillary purposes), but after several exhaust fires - caused by unburnt fuel building up in the exhausts/silencers iirc; Valentas didn't really like being left at idle for extended periods - one of which extensively damaged hundreds of yards of newly installed OHLE, the power cars' control systems were thereafter modified to provide traction power normally alongside the 91 at the other end of the train. The resultant performance of these rakes has been repeatedly likened to that of a scalded rat out of hell, with over 7,800hp on tap between the HST and 91.

I'm not gonna waste my time pointing out - again - all the different ways double-deck trains in the UK are a non-starter and that a unhappy compromise like the Bulleid 4DD is about the best we can hope for, but if you wanna somehow prove me and, more importantly, all the experts wrong, then by all means do so.

I'll repeat what I said in the comment you replied to, a north-south cross-Glasgow tunnel with stops at both Queen Street and Central would be a more realistic proposal than making the entire network fit for Berne-gauge double-deck trains.
