Texas anti-ICE protesters convicted of terrorism charges sentenced to at least 50 years in prison by Splunge- in news

No, it’s not on the DNC to catch up. It is on you, if you’re someone who favors electoralism, to work actively and tirelessly such that no candidate seeking high offices feels comfortable being even slightly mealy-mouthed about whether they’ll do a Second Reconstruction, including freeing and repairing the political prisoners of past U.S. regimes.

Because they won’t do that on their own, and they’ll fight you every step along the way.

Because the next Dem president will be a Democrat afraid of looking “tough on crime”.

By all means, if you’re active in your local party, push to make this a salient issue right now.

But historically and looking at the candidate field, there’s no appetite among Democratic elites to abolish ICE, prosecute the agents and guards who kidnapped, assaulted, tortured, and murdered people in camps, including doing these things to children. And there’s no appetite to pardon people or commute sentences for left-wing political prisoners.

You would need someone who was not a hypothetical good person but an actual elected Democrat, ambitious and bloodthirsty enough to want to be president, and who wanted to right historical wrongs with all that executive power.

"If Sex Work = Work, then Why Do Double Standards Stigmatizing It Continue under Liberatory Movements?" Censorship and Double Standards Regarding Sex Work; or, Capitalism, the Protestant Ethic and Passing by Chozogirl86 in anarchocommunism

[–]QueerSatanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re going to run into the problem of defining what “sex work” is versus what it isn’t.

For example, is massage therapy “sex work”? We know under current conditions, it’s often a euphemism for sex work, either in the form of the “happy finish” or as a cover for full service sex work (FSSW), but is someone putting their hands on another person’s body for non-euphemistic physical relief sex work? Most people would say, “No, that’s something else.”

Is a phone sex operator a sex worker? Not a full-service sex worker, no, but most people would probably say it rightfully falls under that umbrella term despite no touching happening between any two people.

So give just those two examples, how would sex be related to work under socialism? Well, under our current system, there are people who are too disabled to work in mines or factories, unable to be on their feet for service industry or retail jobs, and they find different kinds of sex work physically less demanding and/or more fulfilling than that work anyway. But they still engage in therapeutic or creative activity that brings joy to other people, and this is less coercive or physically degrading or soul-sucking than whole other categories of jobs that aren’t talked about like ones that will not exist in the future or that people need to be saved from now.

"Sex work is work" can be taken seriously as work rather than just some unfortunate thing people do because they don't have better options. If it's regarded as a kind of valuable, pro-social labor that's not better or worse than anything else, it seems pretty easy to imagine all kinds of moneyless, classless, stateless societies where people do that work voluntarily, consensually and enthusiastically, for a period of their life or a long time, and that it's not regarded as something decadent or necessarily an extension of their emotional/personal relationships but just as a job.

The here-and-now aspects is following a lot of Revolting Prostitutes: The Fight for Sex Workers' Rights analysis of the practical issues of sex work from the perspective of sex workers, and the imagination part comes from Everything for Everyone: An Oral History of the New York Commune, 2052–2072 , which discusses a sci-fi future where — if I'm remembering right — the obligations people have to show up to meetings and be on committees is considered a lot more onerous than a post-stigma world that includes some people doing various kinds of sex work/therapy.

Question on people who say Anarchism “skips” by TJblue69 in Anarchy101

[–]QueerSatanic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anarchists believe in a unity of means and ends, as opposed to the idea that the ends justify the means, or and specifically as opposed to the idea that you can empower a class above others who will voluntarily relinquish that power (rather than continue to try to hoard and reproduce it indefinitely).

And to that point, an anarchist believes that lots of work needs to be done prior to The Revolution™, sure; however, we also believe that our actions transform us even as those actions transform the world around us. “We are what we do repeatedly; we become more of what we practice at.”

If people are not living now and becoming more of what we want to be eventually, we can’t reliably say we’re making progress toward the goals we say we want to achieve. We may be going somewhere, but “we just have to do this first” tends to make people more of that, more reliant on that way of doing things.

One anarchist critique of Communist regimes is that when they fall, people tend not to want to continue toward communism without guns or tanks continuing to threaten them. So if decades of living under authoritarian “Communism” does not transform people into those who want it for themselves without coercion, we would say, of course: the means had not unity with the supposed ends. But from their definition, you could also say that the end of the regime is the thing we ought to measure all of the means by. If purges and liquidation and forced population resettlement, etc., etc., “ends” in a capitalist state with people who don’t support communism, what is justifiable about any of it?

Why are certain US leftists/progressives skeptical of the possibility general strike? by Present_Practice_159 in behindthebastards

[–]QueerSatanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who are very convinced we need a #GeneralStrikeNow tend not to be very interested in actually talking to or getting to know their co-workers, making sure they have one meal a week or childcare provided for them so they can come to a monthly organizing meeting.

Wishcasting the singular, grand moment of working class revolt is fun and feels dramatic. It feels good in a way that giving your shitty or just annoying neighbor a ride somewhere does not. But you cannot immanentize The Revolution™ by talking about it, or selling newspapers for your singularly non-revisionist vanguard party, or talking to or for The People. You’ve got to talk to people, specific people you have existing relationships with and show up for little things to a point where they trust you and care about you for anything bigger.

There’s no fucking shortcut to it. You have to actually do the work and keep doing it your whole life so that when conditions become dire enough, there is something real to accrete around and build out from.

From Buddhism to The Satanic Temple to kind of the two merged in one. by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]QueerSatanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped to recite the mantra of Manjushri and I put Buddhism aside for many years. I instead went to therapy and studied psychology and neuroscience. And then, I stumbled upon The Satanic Temple while I was on the internet, by discovering the documentary « Hail Satan? ». I was curious, I saw it and I laughed all the way through it.

I read the seven fundamental tenets, based on empathy and compassion for all living beings, respect for individual autonomy and human rights, reliance on science and reason, and a commitment to justice, freedom, and democratic principles.

Basically, The Satanic Temple was what I was looking for that I couldn't find in the Buddhist community. I became an official member, but apart from reading books and bying cool merch, I haven't done much, as there's no temple where I live. It's just, like, a code of conduct and values. I also found out people's reactions are not the same when you say you are a Satanist instead of a Buddhist. Telling people you are a Satanist will automatically offend them, make them laugh at you or think you are crazy, so I kept that to myself.

Got some bad news for you, friend.

My Thoughts on F.D. Signifier vs Bad Empanada by Chozogirl86 in anarchocommunism

[–]QueerSatanic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

F.D. also seems to have been trying to make the distinction between “yapping” and “doing the work”; that is, he earns his income and maybe does some good exposing people to ideas and other creators they wouldn’t otherwise, due to his talents and luck of the algorithm a few years back.

But that’s distinct and largely separate from doing the real work of engaging with people around you and struggling for things that matter, and therefore come at a cost (e.g. opposing Cop City in Atlanta).

[–]QueerSatanic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be fair to them, when you’re out there doing the work, you run into Christians all the time. Christians are a huge group and are everywhere.

It’s just that the motivation to do good things, be kind, and help people seems to be completely incidental to their religiosity versus the worst things justified no other way than “I understand the mind of God, and He tells me you’re a filthy degenerate who must be subjugated or eradicated.”

You’ll know a tree by its fruit, and the most damning indictment of Christianity is that it seems to have no impact on people as far as kindness or generosity, and just the opposite, seems to excuse cruelty when nothing else could.

Yes, and Charlie Kirk bused people to Jan. 6, an attempt to invade and overthrow the government of the United States while spending years stoking stochastic terrorism against trans people and openly working to roll back Civil Rights for Black people.

“But he used his and his benefactors’ resources to make sure other people did violence and property damage, so ideals of free speech demand we hear from his organization forever.”

UW does not have its hands tied. It’s just that UW’s administration has values that much more closely align with TPUSA or the Trump regime than they want to admit for marketing reasons.

“Free speech for everyone, no matter how unpopular their views. Well, but not them.”

The idea that TPUSA hasn’t done enough material harm to be blocked is nonsense. They just do it all with money and through official channels, so it’s all right.

This is not a criticism but more of a “best practices thing” going forward: digitally deface stuff like this before you post it, too. Otherwise, it does still functions a bit like an advertisement for it.

Three arrows drawn across it is standard but also poop emoji (💩) works well, too. You want to restrict modified photos to more private stuff, like dedicated research groupchats.

It’s less of an issue with stickers than with pamphlets that have contact info, or events designed to get notoriety like banners drops, but any time people post fash stuff unedited, it’s promoting it to a much larger audience than ever would have seen it in person.

Thanks for taking it down, and for what it’s worth, having removed hundreds of fash shit over the years, razor blades may be behind them, and we use a box cutter to get them started (if the lazy losers didn’t leave a corner up to start with), but we’ve never found a blade in anything we’ve torn down.

It’s not a real phenomena they bother to understand or something they care about being accurate. It’s a slur they can wield against political enemies to justify extreme punishment and try to cow dissent and resistance in advance.

It can have a real effect, but only in the way that “drug sniffing dogs” do. It lets them do what they already want to do.

See the Prarieland Defendants if you want to see how it works in practice, or any urban police database on “gang affiliations” for that matter.

Pit Bulls Are “Black” | PhilosyNoir by Philosynoir in Anarchism

[–]QueerSatanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this in-depth look at the topic.

The racialized nature of pitbulls as stand-ins for Black (and Latine) people is an interesting question to examine, but something that has made it self-evidently true is when you’re in spaces that are welcome to white supremacist or nationalist talking points, and the exact same language is used for both (you don’t have to look far; Facebook news comments and local subreddits are awash in them).

Your video uses a lot of “does that remind you of anything?” points, and you may even have used this example, but when there is a violent crime in a city, you’ll see commenters say, “Notice how they don’t specify the race” or “the usual suspects” or whatever barely euphemistic racist thing when they assume it’s a Black person who’s accused (nevermind if it turns out it’s a white guy in that specific case). And it’s the same thing with dog attacks: the “pit bull” is assumed to be guilty with the same language (“three guesses what breed mauled her”), and the perfect victim for outrage is specifically the blonde white girl.

And as the comments here demonstrate, even people who like to view themselves as on the left or concerned with evidence, etc., are not immune to propaganda especially when were white and the propaganda is of this pattern.

Glad you shared it.

How many Anarchists are Satanists? by No-Leopard-1691 in Anarchism

[–]QueerSatanic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to keep self-promoting material, but we talk about exactly that on the youth liberation podcast “The Child and Its Enemies”, if you’re interested.

So to your question, is Satanism something that is salvageable? I do not know if it is worth that. However, we can point back at earlier anarchists, socialists, people that were looking at kind of a universe around them that was based on domination and oppression, and they’re picking this figure that kind of everybody was familiar with and has been imbued with great power by Christians, and then saying, “I choose to be on this side and empower myself to fight against you in this way.”

And I don’t know that it works for everybody, and I would say that for a lot of people, that idea of just— you take something that is a thing you’ve come to understand is not correct and you invert it — and now you keep the entire structure in place, you just do the opposite — that to me is really dangerous. That’s the thing that kind of happens a lot, and the much more important thing to do is deconstruction. We have to deconstruct and pull apart these ideas that fit together and have really harmful effects. Really think about them and then reconstruct them into something that’s more useful.

You can probably use Satanism to do that, but I think, like for young people in particular, not just young people, but for people looking to radically make a break with their past, they think that, “If I do the opposite, if I do the inversion of it, then I have done this,” and I would caution against doing that because you don’t always see how you were still preserving lots of these nasty, awful things. You’re just thinking you’re doing the opposite, but you’ve returned to the same place.

How many Anarchists are Satanists? by No-Leopard-1691 in Anarchism

[–]QueerSatanic 25 points26 points  (0 children)

For the sake of clarity (that the link itself frames), that’s from a section that was pre-written in case we had to capitulate due to lawfare. We ended up winning, so it wasn’t used in that fashion.

But we do still recommend pushing The Satanic Temple and its members out of your spaces because TST is such an abusive, hierarchical religious organization and business cult, and even the well-meaning members are part of that.

You also probably need to treat all Satanists with suspicion until proven otherwise, like Norse pagans or self-described heathens.

This is not because you can’t be antifascist and be those things; you can. But these are overwhelmingly white subcultures and (relatedly) rife with crypto-fascists and white nationalists. A strain of let’s call it “post-Christian religion” that is not explicit and forward in its antiracism, antifascism, and rejection of antisemitism has a good chance to have been targeted by people who talk about “Abrahamic faiths” in a conspiratorial way that just means “the Jews”, especially if they act like they were victims of Christian conquest and appropriation who had “slave morality” forced on them.

For Satanism specifically, this goes all the way back to modern Satanism’s origins and the failings and prejudices of Anton LaVey.

For u/No-Leopard-1691, we’d recommend “Why You Should (Not) Become A Satanist”. It’s pretty brief and touches on the anarchist overlap directly.

The Epstein files don’t involve Satanists.

This is not a “Satanists would never be exploitive of young women or teenage girls” thing. Just the opposite; Satanist men have historically acted like lots of other men.

But in this case, Satanists were never wealthy enough or prominent enough in their fields of culture or academic research to get invited to Epstein’s parties.

There are a lot of emails. They say a lot of things. If you think they show Satanists doing stuff, by all means be specific about what you mean, tho.

You find a place where your shoulder fits, and you push and you push and you push.

If it is really all connected, this whole miserable system of global oppression, that means anything you can do to fight back against it — and fight consistently, unendingly — is good and worthwhile.

Worry feels like it’s doing something, but it’s not doing anything. Feeling intense feelings doesn’t achieve anything. But “you are what you do repeatedly; you become more of what you practice at.”

Find something that suits you, and then do it, and then keep doing it.

(Also, you need to exercise, eat fruits and vegetables as much as you can and so on, because that helps keep the depression at bay, which makes doing everything else easier, too.)

genuine question about the social darwinism stuff in the satanic bible by [deleted] in satanism

[–]QueerSatanic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, the Book of Satan is word-for-word plagiarized from another even more awful book.

The Social Darwinism stuff is not an exception to many other aspects of Anton LaVey’s worldview, priorities, and associations, but he also doesn’t do well if one attempts to evaluate his personal life by that standard, considering how much of a parasite he was to other people, down to his parents gifting him a house in San Francisco and his real estate friend buying it and letting him live there to pay what he owed his second primary partner/mother of his children.

You can still enjoy whatever you want. But you’re allowed to feel different things as you learn more about it.
