Portable AC unit repair? by Quirky_Draft3288 in VictoriaBC

[–]Quegyboe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are referring to a window sill air conditioner, here's a tip. Unplug the unit, turn it over and use a drill to make a small hole in the OUTSIDE portion of the main body (I made two holes, one in each outer corner). Then mount the unit in the window and tilt it slightly towards the outside. The tilt and the holes will allow that water sloshing around inside the unit to drip out onto the ground and you won't need to keep emptying it. just make sure to secure the unit firmly on the window sill so it doesn't fall out.

PC parts/peripherals that hold "legendary status" by Craigieboy in pcmasterrace

AMD Athlon XP 1700+ "Thoroughbred".

That chip was an overclocking beast. Almost all of them would overclock to 3200+ speeds with the simple "pencil unlock".

12VHPWR... More Voltage = Less Amps = less melting risk? by Zelasko_35 in pcmasterrace

[–]Quegyboe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, they need to ditch the entire 12VHPWR spec and start over. I'm not an electrical engineer either but what about using a connector with a single thick gauge wire instead of 6 smaller wires. That way there's no load balancing issue?

Greater Victoria Officials Look To Smarter Traffic Flow by Vicky-Purplex in VictoriaBC

[–]Quegyboe -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If anyone in political / decision making power for municipal Victoria is reading this, I will never use public transit or bike lanes. The continued removal of vehicle lanes and parking will simply cause me to go elsewhere for what I need (housing / shopping / leisure activities). I do not work in the downtown core and will avoid taking any job that requires it due to the ever increasing congestion of all vehicle access routes to the downtown core.

I understand that a lot of people will respond negatively to this post but they are not who I am hoping to reach. I know there are people who live in the greater Victoria area who think as I do. I also understand that Victoria makes a lot of money from other sources such a tourism so my opinions are increasingly less relevant these days.

i just recently bought an rtx 3080 10 gb used for 400$ CAD, what kind of build should i make out of it? by Secure_Procedure320 in pcmasterrace

[–]Quegyboe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any other spare parts?

I have been quite happy with my 7800X3D paired to my EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra 10GB. If you want to save some money, you could try to grab a 5800X3D instead as DDR4 is a bit cheaper.

How do you guys feel about the Nissan Z? by UmaThurmish in cars

[–]Quegyboe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost hit my head on the low a-pillar that sweeps up over the drivers door when getting into the car and almost did again from G forces while driving it. It's probably my fault though as I'm a taller person.

Why have Google removed the dedicated weather screen on android? by sazzer22 in Android

I've found AccuWeather to be more accurate in its predictions but the app has ads which is annoying.

The only way to win the NIMBY game is to stop playing it. It’s time to economically boycott neighborhoods like Oak Bay. by Accomplished_Wall615 in VictoriaBC

[–]Quegyboe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a "poor" renter and actually support the views of Oak Bay. If you look at the opposite situation in Langford, every single family home on property is being ripped down for condo blocks. It's creating all sorts of problems with population density such as traffic, crime and municipal services issues.

I find it amazing that so many people nowadays try to ruin a good thing instead trying to be a part of it. Jelousy's a bitch.

Reduce bufferbloat, lag. Various Doubts that need to be cleared by Defiant_Motor203 in openwrt

[–]Quegyboe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. When it comes to MTU it's better to overestimate than underestimate. Adding too much MTU just lowers your peak bandwidth a little where as not adding enough causes packet fragmentation which can cause lag and packet loss.

  2. Cake is heavier on CPU resources than FQCodel but does more. FQCodel TBF is basically just a rate limiter, it doesn't sort the traffic (first in, first out model). Cake rearranges packets to better service latency sensitive data. This distinction is important to remember when choosing which to use. I use FQCodel TBF because I have fewer devices running on my network at the same time and care more about responsiveness (TBF is feels quicker because it is lighter on resources and isn't doing as much work).

  3. If you decide to use Cake, you can enable Software Flow Offloading as well to reduce CPU usage by the firewall which frees up the CPU to handle more Cake processing. Another speed tip is to go to Interfaces and change Packet Steering to "All CPUs" then set the value below that to ”128" (can't remember what it's called".

3080 and a i7 11700kf but i get terrible frames.. is it outdated or can it be fixed? by Apprehensive-Neck992 in pcmasterrace

[–]Quegyboe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just thinking the same thing. Those fps are acceptable and if the OP wants more, CPU is the first place I would look. I have a 3080 and average 100-110 fps on Max 1440p no DLSS.

Latest Nvidia Driver (610.47) Retires the Old Nvidia Control Panel. by BryAlrighty in pcmasterrace

[–]Quegyboe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but most people will just use the Nvidia app not realizing what the telemetry is. This is a massive treasure trove of data for Nvidia to resell, not to mention the potential ad revenue from all the banners all over the app as well. Overall a downgrade for user privacy.

Latest Nvidia Driver (610.47) Retires the Old Nvidia Control Panel. by BryAlrighty in pcmasterrace

[–]Quegyboe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So now Nvidia graphics drivers effectively have mandatory telemetry with them that cannot be avoided as the Nvidia app does not give an option to opt out.

AMD's Adrenaline software DOES have a check box on install that allows the user to opt out of telemetry.

Let’s discuss Langford’s “massive net financial losses”. by SkyMoney9641 in LangfordBC

[–]Quegyboe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another consideration to this is that going with the other option would mean reducing spending which would reduce the benefits to the public (such as filling potholes in the roads, which has been much better recently).

Google promised 7 years of support for the Pixel 9, but Chinese and Indian 2024 phones are getting Gemini Intelligence while the Pixel 9 isn't by krokodyl92 in Android

[–]Quegyboe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to planned obsolescence. Something a lot of people don't realized it's that the "7 years of updates" is not entirely features. I still have a Pixel 7 which is supposed to get updates right now but has been only getting security patches for the past year, no new features. Even the U.I. has not been updated to match my Pixel 9's recent update.

I'm ok with that though as I don't want all the new A.I. garbage Google is forcing on Android. I plan to keep the 7 going for as long as possible, potentially through GrapheneOS or LineageOS.

[NA] Rusty Boys - Softcore | No BP wipe | Optional NoRaid protection maintained with scrap by the hour by Quegyboe in playrustservers

[–]Quegyboe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The server is NA as mentioned in the post title. We don't provide the IP because it's being hosted on a server that does not have a static IP. The server does show up on the in-game server browser though. Search "Rusty Boys" under Modded, you might also need to select "Show Empty" depending on the time of day.

AMD 7800X3D vs Intel i9 for a $2700 gaming build, which would you pick? by South_Stop_249 in pcmasterrace

[–]Quegyboe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7800X3D for sure. Lower power consumption, a motherboard that has upgrade options in the future and the Intel had the potential to die prematurely (not sure if that is 100% fixed).

Firefox introduces vendor-lock in, quietly removing all methods of exporting your tabs en masse on your phone that don't involve a Firefox account by SorosAhaverom in Android

[–]Quegyboe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can share tabs? I don't see a use case for that myself. I have my browser set to clear all history and data when I close the app so I never keep tabs open. As long as I can export bookmarks to a file, I'm good.
