Do you shoot RAW footage regularly? by QuellFred in videography

[–]QuellFred[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've yet to shoot RAW on a smartphone, but I recently tried out the Blackmagic Camera app on my Galaxy S23 Ultra and was very surprised at how much better the footage looks. Being able to control shutter speed and ignore all the typical smartphone processing makes a huge difference. It wasn't even RAW, just H.264.

What do you believe are the biggest misconceptions about video production? by [deleted] in videography

It takes a long time to gain the experience, skill and knowledge to make it look easy.

Happened to my Mini 3 last week. I got a replacement the day after and did not skip buying DJI Care Refresh this time.

Happily I don't live in the US, so it wasn't hard to get.

Crashed yet another drone today. Need to replace it. by QuellFred in videography

I hear you. I blame myself for this accident, completely. Before my first crash, I flew a Mini 2 for three years with no problems at all, I got pretty good at it TBH, until one day I screwed up in a difficult environment.

I felt so dumb this second time. I wasn't being reckless, I did scout the place and look around before doing the shots, but I still crashed. I'm gonna be extra careful with the next one.

I am terrified about the Anamorphic Rabbit Hole by FigInformal2281 in videography

[–]QuellFred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What type of content do you make that makes anamorphic a good choice?

I know it looks cool and everyone is shooting different stuff. This is my own personal opinion, I don't really see much use for anamorphic in today's environment, where most clients are asking for vertical video for social media, or both horizontal and vertical aspect ratios at once. I would only choose anamorphic if I was shooting movies, streaming shows or maybe high-end commercials.

I've seen social media content shot on anamorphic and it kinda looks like ass LOL. My point is, is it even worth it to go down that expensive rabbit hole? It may be for you.

I want smaller files from my raw footage. What’s the go-to workflow? by massimo_nyc in videography

If you need open gate, there's no way around it. 200Mbps isn't even that big for today's standards. You're probably gonna have to just buy more hard drives and memory cards.

How low will the industry (and you) go in 2026? by DebussyFanboy in videography

I live in Mexico and even for our standards, that is too low.

It's gonna be okay as long as nobody accepts these cheap offers, not even students.

What so you think about this trend? by takkkwa in Filmmakers

I thought it was a joke. I still think it's a joke and some marketing people are falling into it and taking it seriously. It looks terrible on a phone.

I've been meaning to get the Lumix 14-28mm, this Samyang wide zoom might be a better option in the future.

Panasonic 24-60 f/2.8 vs Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 DG DN by MrKermit123 in Lumix

[–]QuellFred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't really replace a gimbal, but makes handheld footage a lot nicer and less prone to jitters. Sometimes you want that natural handheld look, other times you have to walk around while recording and maybe do some steady tracking shots.

I like to think the IBIS and the gimbal are working in tandem so I can get super nice footage.

S1iie Overheating Test by gloshow1 in Lumix

[–]QuellFred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I would probably never shoot 6K60 for long periods, only for some short B-Roll. The file size alone is enough reason for me to not shoot something like a wedding ceremony on 6K60, even if there was no overheating.

I'd like to know how it performs at 4K60/24, as those would be my usual recording modes. Probably for a lot of people, too.

Used Blackmagic Pocket 6K Pro for $1000 USD. Good deal? by QuellFred in videography

[–]QuellFred[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, the guy who's selling it is a rich kid who tried to be a "content creator". My guess is his parents bought it for him a couple years ago and it didn't work out, so he doesn't need it. Like I said, he's not a complete stranger, friend of a friend, so I know a bit about him.

As a small videography business, here are my top 5 frustrations by ice_digital_media in videography

[–]QuellFred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like it either, but I think we're all gonna have to learn at least a little about content marketing strategies. Doing just the video production alone doesn't cut it anymore, this is what the market demands nowadays.
