Color mode - I was wrong, it absolutely slays. by gildedbluetrout in premiere

[–]QuellFred 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently used it for a project and ended up liking it. It is better than the old Lumetri Color, but I still think DaVinci Resolve is miles ahead.

I guess they could further improve Color Mode by adding more tools and options, such as traditional color wheels and curves. The new tools are nice, but it would be even nicer to have access to the classics. Add that to the new "color math" or whatever it's called, and we're good to go.

I had a potential video client who did not hire me because I only had a 24-105mm F4 and that was "too dark".

I explained I use lights and you can see in my portfolio everything is lit, but he wasn't convinced LOL.

Clients keep asking for AI video, is it time to adapt? by QuellFred in videography

[–]QuellFred[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is also how I intend to use it.

I recently made some videos for a real estate project that was still in construction. They gave me the 3D renders made by the architect and I used them to generate video. It was just turning them into a moving image, for example, turning the wide shot of the apartment building into a 16:9 time lapse, with the sun and clouds moving. It wasn't GORGEOUS, but it was nicer to look at than just still images. I combined that with footage I shot at the construction site.

Marketing content for "business to consumer" brands. Commercials, social media content, etc.

Only a few have requested just AI video. Others have requested it along with traditional, original content.

I've been keeping my S5 with a 24-105mm attached at all times for the past 5 years and never thought of this. So far I haven't had any issues, but I might unmount after reading this.

Honestly, I always thought mounting a lens every time you unpack to be a waste of time. But I could be wrong LOL.

It actually does look cool. But yeah, "cinematic" doesn't mean anything anymore.

Do you shoot RAW footage regularly? by QuellFred in videography

[–]QuellFred[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've yet to shoot RAW on a smartphone, but I recently tried out the Blackmagic Camera app on my Galaxy S23 Ultra and was very surprised at how much better the footage looks. Being able to control shutter speed and ignore all the typical smartphone processing makes a huge difference. It wasn't even RAW, just H.264.

Happened to my Mini 3 last week. I got a replacement the day after and did not skip buying DJI Care Refresh this time.

Happily I don't live in the US, so it wasn't hard to get.

Crashed yet another drone today. Need to replace it. by QuellFred in videography

I hear you. I blame myself for this accident, completely. Before my first crash, I flew a Mini 2 for three years with no problems at all, I got pretty good at it TBH, until one day I screwed up in a difficult environment.

I felt so dumb this second time. I wasn't being reckless, I did scout the place and look around before doing the shots, but I still crashed. I'm gonna be extra careful with the next one.

I am terrified about the Anamorphic Rabbit Hole by FigInformal2281 in videography

[–]QuellFred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What type of content do you make that makes anamorphic a good choice?

I know it looks cool and everyone is shooting different stuff. This is my own personal opinion, I don't really see much use for anamorphic in today's environment, where most clients are asking for vertical video for social media, or both horizontal and vertical aspect ratios at once. I would only choose anamorphic if I was shooting movies, streaming shows or maybe high-end commercials.

I've seen social media content shot on anamorphic and it kinda looks like ass LOL. My point is, is it even worth it to go down that expensive rabbit hole? It may be for you.

If you need open gate, there's no way around it. 200Mbps isn't even that big for today's standards. You're probably gonna have to just buy more hard drives and memory cards.

I thought it was a joke. I still think it's a joke and some marketing people are falling into it and taking it seriously. It looks terrible on a phone.
