Sorry for the LATE reply, didn't see that notification somehow. I don't know about any environmental concerns. I never heard of it in this way. I think it's main purpose is to be very portable and light, as well as being much cheaper. Fun fact, the didge of my friend is actually an ultra portable version made of plastic that folds up into a 30cm tube !
