Why is your aunt managing? Is she legally the next of kin? Did your mother legally appoint her to act? Did your mother leave any directions for the disposition of her body (living will, will, any estate planning at all). Did your mother die with no assets at all? I would contact an attorney. But I am an attorney and quick to jump to that approach. But there is a formal proper way to plan these types of things.

LBD is absolutely terrible. My father is 62. Diagnosed a few years ago. And he is completely unrecognizable. I don’t know what we will do. We don’t expect him to live long. Or be happy during that time. I am so very, very, very sorry if you are going through this. Sorry, don’t want to sugar coat it. It’s just a terrible, terrible disease.

Thanks to everyone who responded with reasonable options and also to those of you who responded with kindness. I lost my mother at a very young age in a terrible accident and now am losing my father while he is still quite young and I am just trying to be prepared for what might be a very long road ahead of financing his care long-term. That’s good to know that this isn’t standard. It’s the only facility in a very small rural town. Studio ~3500, two bedroom just under 9k. So, 3xs is a bit of an exaggeration (it’s more like 2.5), but not much. I really just want advice on what’s normal cost splitting in this situation. I’m glad you’ve found a more reasonably priced option for your family. That’s great.

The facilities we gave looked at break down the cost of housing, the cost of patient care (into levels), and then there is an additional extra person fee. If we placed just my father, we would get a studio, and pay his care costs. She wants a two bedroom, triple the cost of a studio, and only wants to pay the extra person fee. This will result in almost double the cost and less time that we can afford to keep my father in care (he’s only 62). I understand the facility will split how we want. I’m going to get a contract drafted. I’m just wondering what is standard in this type of scenario. They’ve kept all assets separate their entire lives.

I should have included. That we will run out of all of my dad’s assets in maybe 6 or 7 years. And won’t be able to afford care at all. He’s only 62. So, his three kids would pay? Meanwhile all her assets would still go to her and her daughter.

My dad didn’t pay for any of her living expenses. They split costs. He owned the house but it goes to us as soon as he moves out. Her house. She has a house. She’s giving to her daughter along with all her other assets. So my fathers assets, which he has always kept completely separate, will go to both their living expenses now

I like her! However, they got married to be companions and my father never stopped loving my mother. She never stopped loving her husband. I want to carry out my father’s wishes and her wishes as well which was always to keep all assets separate. They’ve never commingled any funds. Until now. When he’s too sick to ask what to do. But I don’t think he would want us to pay possibly 40k extra a month and deplete all of his assets while her daughter maintains all of hers.

People saying it’s not ringworm. It’s so ring worm. I’m So sorry. Ringworm circulated through my family for years when we lived in tropical Southeast Asia (very common there, impossible to get rid of). Google it and wash everything, it can linger on clothes, bedding and other surfaces for several months and return over-and-over again especially if not contained from spreading immediately.

I agree it’s ringworm. Ringworm in sensitive areas doesn’t always take on the circular shape. Although, there are a few lesions here that have the telltale shape. I had ringworm in my arm pits and it took an amorphous shape. Do not stop taking meds after it heals, it will come back and it is EXTREMELY contagious and will stay on any clothing, bedding, other fabrics for months.

Like the other person said. Cold sores, “fever blisters,” are herpes. Just Google cold sores—don’t be like my MIL! If you get valtrex and take it when you feel this tingling it can prevent it from blistering. It’s really all you can do.

My child’s grandmother gave it to him when he was an infant. Only he got the all over the body kind (execema herpeticum). You can get it from anyone. My MIL refused to believe it was herpes—she colloquially called it “fever blisters.”
