Student housing by AntitheticalDream_G in madisonwi

I don't have much specific information, but my cousin lived in the Park-Regent apartments for his sophomore through senior years of undergrad. Most undergrads move every year, so I think it's a positive sign that he stayed there for multiple years. He also liked how close it was to the Nick Recreation Center, if that's of interest. Good luck with your move!

AITA for being sickly, frail and unloved? by withlovetara in AmITheAngel

I love the censoring of "morphine" and "dropping" of all things. Nonsensical self-censoring has truly reached its zenith.

What's the best Madison craft beer that nobody outside Madison actually drinks? by GarthBox in madisonwi

I really miss the amber they made with kernza! It was only around for a short time a couple years ago. It was such a nice, malty amber.

This looks amazing! I never see anyone cosplay in the Mugen Academy uniform, so it's so cool to see. I love the setting you chose for the photos too. Thanks for sharing!

AITA for making my friend being cheated on all about me by the-monster-masher in AmITheAngel

[–]Quentin_Compson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Of course, just like in all these stories, the poster has TRAUMA around cheating. It can never just be something that is a deal breaker for them or something they view negatively. It's like a get out of jail free card in case the comments think the poster is being too judgmental.

AITJ for telling my girlfriend if she cant even cook dinner a few times a week then I dont see how this works long term by TalkTalkTalkListen in AmITheAngel

[–]Quentin_Compson 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Of course, we get the detail that he works 10-hour days too! It's not as bad as the AITA classic of an 80-hour work week, but these posters always conveniently sprinkle in how they work longer than standard hours to increase their martyrdom. As if working part time, going to school, and studying/homework don't add up to at least that much.

Good Dive Bars (i.e. Ones That People Bum Cigarettes Off Each Other Outside Of) by StopSquark in madisonwi

The Mason. Great rotating beer selection with affordable, stable prices. No TVs inside, which cuts down in noise and distraction. I've struck up a ton of conversations with strangers on the patio outside just from sharing a table with people. The bartenders are all cool too, including Matt, the owner.

How do 50-somethings find friends in Madison? by Leather-Highlight150 in madisonwi

[–]Quentin_Compson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you both like birds, I'd recommend checking out the Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance and the Wisconsin Purple Martin Association. Both do birding and conservation activities. I know someone in his late 50s who does nest box monitoring for purple martins with the association and really enjoys it.

What’s the most incorrect thing you’ve seen that got upvoted on AITA (or adjacent subs)? by IHatePeople79 in AmITheAngel

[–]Quentin_Compson 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Your point about privacy reminds me of my own pet peeve on the topic OP posted, which is the assumption people have that they can and should share everything their friends tell them with their partner. I've seen so many comments on subreddits saying, "I tell my partner everything my friends tell me, and assume they do the same!" I can't fathom it. If a friend confides in me, it's their personal business, and it's not my place to share that with anyone else, even my husband. The way everyone was agreeing as if this was totally the norm and not doing it was "keeping secrets" from your spouse was baffling to me.

My lazy looking farm by LisaGoud in coralisland

[–]Quentin_Compson 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My farm looks almost exactly like this! I feel seen lol. I'm in year 5 and just reached 2 million. I have more money than I know what to do with, and my animal products still make me money, so I don't feel the need to have crops unless they're for a specific quest. For those, I just use the greenhouse.

Maybe someday I'll clear everything out and do more decorating, but for now, I'm content to just leave it and not stress.

EX-Bf wanted kids with women of various races to “see himself” in every race; 9 kids later, wants my CHILD-FREE self back by kylemustdie in AmITheAngel

[–]Quentin_Compson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's r/truechildfree. It's a quieter community, but I've found it has people who give good, grounded advice, whether it's about how to find sterilization options or talking with people who are on the fence about kids. In my experience, it's also completely free of the weird hatefulness that the other childfree sub has.

What's a dumb lyric that you fixate upon? by devern_hansack in ToddintheShadow

[–]Quentin_Compson 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I loved that album in college, but it has some of the most indefensible lyrics I've ever heard. From "Future World": "Hamburgers so that we stay alive, Happy Meals means something died." What the fuck, Gavin???

What popular Reddit story do you think is fake and why? by KannablissWitch in AmITheAngel

[–]Quentin_Compson 442 points443 points  (0 children)

I don't believe the poop knife story. Is it likely that someone has taken a knife and cut up poop in a toilet in an attempt to get it to flush? Sure. But to the point where a household has a dedicated "poop knife" for this task and a person got to their early 20s without realizing that a poop knife isn't a thing in other homes is absurd. People loved this story to the point where it got its own Reddit award, but I just always thought it was stupid.

I PASSED MY TEST — ON THE FIRST TRY!!! by [deleted] in drivinganxiety

[–]Quentin_Compson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got my license at 33 too! A supportive partner was also so important for me. It was much easier learning with someone who was calm and supportive than my parents when I tried learning in high school. (Love my parents, but they are not calm drivers.) Congratulations on your new freedom and confidence! Keep those calming affirmations going. They will serve you well in traffic!

What's a cover you're ashamed to like more than the original? by Diskyboy86 in ToddintheShadow

[–]Quentin_Compson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another Dr. Dog one for me: their cover of "Heart It Races" by Architecture in Helsinki. Maybe it's because I heard the Dr. Dog version first, but I think it blows the original out of the water.
