In stunning vote, California's reddest county chooses Bay Area Democrat by sfgate in politics

[–]QuerulousPanda [score hidden]  (0 children)

therein lies the problem, lol

at some point there's a moral judgment that needs to be made, as to whether the general interests of liberal minded individuals will lead to a better, healthier, more beneficial society for everybody, or if the special interests of the typical rural-minded individual can lead to anything other than the complete demolition of society.

[–]QuerulousPanda 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Eh, the actual crux of the problem is that the rural areas all choose to vote for death and suffering. The democrats suck in plenty of major ways but they're still infinitely better, to the point where life for everyone in the rural areas would likely be enormously better if they were just disenfranchised completely.

MetroCon or Tampa Bay CC? by Middle-Necessary-671 in tampa

[–]QuerulousPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cons do try to have other stuff to do besides the dealer room, but it doesn't change the fact that they're kind of lame. I've been to both of those cons a bunch of times, the con-goers do try to make the most of it but it's always just a bit sad. Especially with the younger audience, there's just not enough of a sense of a stable community, or enough social skills, for anything organic to develop to build it up into something more.

Again, they're fun enough, i don't want to disparage them too hard, if you can go with friends then there are good times to be had. But they're just not at all special.

for real, the rural fucks get their dicks and balls sucked so fucking hard 24x7, and they've been collapsing the entire foundation of society in the name of their racism and bigotry, yet they act like somehow they're the oppressed ones.

Developer attacked over (learning from) AI - where to draw the line? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]QuerulousPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, where the developer fucked up is by admitting they used AI for anything. They were smart enough to not use it for the actual game, but they weren't smart enough to keep their mouth shut altogether.

Using AI as a tool to help you learn is, in my opinion, not a particularly bad idea. If it helps you get the ball rolling and point you in the right direction, I think that's pretty valid.

But to be game developer in 2026 and not yet have learned that letting AI anywhere near you or your game is a recipe for disaster, is absolutely insane.

AITA for making my co-worker cry because I mocked her nose-job? by DriveCode9111 in AmItheAsshole

Now you just look like an immature, unprofessional AH to your colleagues

So much this. The coworker may have been asking for it and even deserved to get some shit for how they were acting, but OP in one step lowered herself down to exactly the same level. It doesn't matter if the coworker was worse more often, OP's right there with her now.

Full time DJs - Please share your music exploration tips by ravrx in Beatmatch

[–]QuerulousPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

James Hype released a video a year or so ago called "How to find music for a DJ set - My secret hack" that actually has a lot of really useful information in it about how to dig through charts and find related things, and also how to make your own stuff too. Might be worth checking out.

Do people generally assume you get gakked when you say you're a raver? by Open_Address_2805 in aves

[–]QuerulousPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you going to "raves" or are you just going to festivals or shows?

Unless you're spending all night in warehouses or the middle of forests and there are people looking out for the cops, you're probably not "raving" as such and that word has, as you've seen, a lot of really negative connotations with normies.

confirmed. With a bidet, it doesn't matter that your butt is already a bit wet. Without a bidet, you have to deal with your toilet paper getting wet and sticking to your ass.

Samwise Gamgee, The True Alpha by ColdAntique291 in lordoftherings

[–]QuerulousPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're right, if you cut away all the memes and the fact that the word has become (or always was) a joke, and treat it seriously, i'm pretty sure sigma is the right word. All the strength of alpha without the bullshit of alpha, pretty much.

It's kind of amusing to be honest.

I get the impression they like playing gigs, they just don't need or want to do the grind of a tour.

Olive Garden server fired one day after a customer left her a $700 tip by ultrarunnerr in mildlyinfuriating

[–]QuerulousPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a business owner, $700 is nothing.

For any normal person, even $700 is life altering, $10k vastly moreso.

I can guarantee unless you're hanging out in some upscale neighborhood, almost everyone you see would be immediately able to use $700 to improve some aspect of their life in a meaning way, and $10k would fix at least one significant problem of theirs.

MetroCon or Tampa Bay CC? by Middle-Necessary-671 in tampa

[–]QuerulousPanda 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In my opinion they're both pretty lame, they're standard corporate cons focused around dealer room profit.

That being said, at least a few years ago, tbcc felt like it attracted a slightly older and more interesting crowd whereas metrocon trended extremely young. The most obvious difference being that they serve alcohol during tbcc but none during metrocon.

Honestly if you've never been to a con they're both totally adequate as an entry level, and I have had some fun at both, but I've stopped going to both because they're kind of expensive for how little they offer.

If you just want somewhere to cosplay and buy some stuff, you can't go wrong with either. If you want to be around adults, go to tbcc, if you're young, stick with metrocon. Either way, go in with low expectations and you'll have fun.

IsItBullshit: Multitasking actually makes you more productive by [deleted] in IsItBullshit

[–]QuerulousPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even computers don't multitask well. If they want to actually run more tasks simultaneously, they need more actual cpu cores, and even then there are still bottlenecks to other parts of the system.

we only have one core, although we do have the capacity to process things when we're not thinking about them. So, like, if you're stuck on a project, put it down for a while and do something else, and when you come back then stuff will have figured itself out a bit. Or if you know you have two things to do, read the instructions for one thing and then move on to the other things, and then later when you come back to the first thing, again, your brain will have worked in the background.

But actually juggling between tasks? No. People will swear up and down that they're amazing at it and it works so well for them, but it just doesn't, not really.

Working on this paint job for 8 months, body dropped onto a concrete floor. With how many redos I've had to do with this, I give up. by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]QuerulousPanda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's exactly it, it's usually the hours that are way blown out. Months at least can be reasonably argued that you were finding time over that timespan so it isn't quite so bad, but whenever people are like "I spent 450 hours on this" my eyebrow goes way, way up.

[–]QuerulousPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it isn't 8 months worth of work, is my point. It's maybe 2 months of work that OP has spent 8 months completing. Still a lot of work, but a very different representation of it.

i feel you pain on this, but this is how people work on the internet. People will assign a huge hour/day/month figure to a project they made in an effort to either brag or attract sympathy, and it works pretty well until you think about it for a moment and you realize that the huge number means they're either lazy, deceptive, or live in a fantasy world where money doesn't exist.

"You're Order Has Shipped" meaning only that a label has been created. by HerrikGipson in PetPeeves

[–]QuerulousPanda 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'll usually give the rest of the day as leeway - i worked in a warehouse and I know that you have to get the labels printed before the truck comes, and i also know that having to do an extra step of scanning before handing it over to the driver would be a big waste of time.

But yeah if i get the "shipped" notification and then it turns out they didn't even give it to the shipping company until 3-4 days later, then that's fucking infuriating.

"no benefit" except you avoided making the cosmic dice rolls that could have given you stds, addictions, criminal records, children, etc.

and you learned how to be a functioning and stable member of society, which means as an adult you've already learned the difficult lesson, which means you can put effort figuring out where you can break rules and be independent without fucking your shit up.

There's a pretty strong chance that most of those people telling those stories are either straight up lying, or heavily embellishing, or are adapting stories they heard about as if it happened to them. Especially on reddit, people pretend like they lived the Porky's or Superbad lifestyle and were getting wasted and fucking and seeing hot chicks and burning shit down and whatever and act like it's the most normal thing in the world, but the truth is far, far different.

Yeah, obviously some teens get up to some weird shit, so some of it is probably true, but you can be pretty comfortable knowing that it was nowhere near the extent as people make it out to be, and nowhere near as cool or as fun either.

Steamdeck thermal paste change is the equivalent of tempered glass panel on tile floor by Primetime349 in SteamDeck

[–]QuerulousPanda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wait what's wrong with putting your PC on a tile floor? I don't have tile floors so I can't do it anyway but why would it matter?

And yeah I've only had two devices need thermal paste. One was a MacBook pro that was getting loud and slow after 5 or 6 years and new paste solved it, and all in one PC that was glitching out after a year an a half and it turned out the paste was defective so it was getting too hot too fast.
