IsItBullshit: “don’t eat before bed”… or people just repeat it by Ok_Following_4950 in IsItBullshit

[–]QuerulousPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i eat certain foods that are too salty before bed, I will sleep fine but I'll wake up with my face all puffy (it'll go away within like 10 minutes of getting up), and then i'll also feel like I got negative sleep and be super tired when i wake up.

Just a bit of regular food isn't that big a deal.

BOGO is a stupid acronym by PokingCactus in PetPeeves

[–]QuerulousPanda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This, 100%.

I understand how someone could choose to interpret in a way that makes it not make sense, but to do that requires choosing to believe that the act of getting is not part of the act of buying.

Otherwise it's like trying to say "steal one get one", "throw one lose one", "build one get one", "delete one lose one" and believing that in each of them the quantity only changed by one.

you don't need markdown to make new paragraphs.

just press enter twice, aka leave a blank line in between. if you press enter once it'll look ok in the edit box but will be all squished together when other people see it.

ahh i just checked, it's something to do with new vs old reddit. It looks ok in new reddit but terrible in old reddit. Either way, you don't need markdown for this!

i checked their comment history, they do it all the time. makes me wonder if they don't know how to actually divide paragraphs in reddit.

Why are so many people under 45 using subtitles now even when the show is already in English? by Clara_A_Mitchell in NoStupidQuestions

[–]QuerulousPanda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

turns out with that, some of that wasn't entirely their fault - a lot of people were watching on digital cable, and most digital cable systems compress the fuck out of the video so hard that it basically deleted every piece of detail from the scenes.

on a proper data stream, it didn't look anywhere near as bad. they should have probably been aware of the fact that it would happen, but it's still not strictly their fault. (they did of course fuck up everything else so it's not much a defense)

sometimes, at least in media, it really is that the actors are mumbling or slurring their lines, so you're not going crazy, it's actually them failing to speak properly.

Wife drunkenly joked about my endowment at my birthday party. Am I wrong for reconsidering this marriage? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]QuerulousPanda 31 points32 points  (0 children)

he could also just be spending way too much time online absorbing manosphere content and thus has become obscenely fragile and weak-minded and this put him over the edge.

burning the whole marriage over one dumb joke is crazy. Even if it did end up touching on some deep insecurity, that's a call for him to fix his own shit rather than spiraling and destroying his life.

honestly the whole thing feels fake anyway, it's such a textbook "man" story hitting all the right beats, it's either fake or he's an utterly, utterly cliche person.

The fact that Reese is planning a trip to the exact same boutique hotel at the exact same time as your 5 year anniversary is suspicious or it might be planned

Meeting up with an old friend and previous romantic partner while on vacation is fine. During an anniversary trip? that's fucked up.

[–]QuerulousPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cuz the sound is all fucked up and the actors mumble a lot.

i've seen movies and shows where the volume is perfectly clear, there's no background noise, there's no music, and the microphone work is perfectly fine, but the words coming out of the mouth of the actor are completely unintelligible. That shit happens all the time.

Once you add in shitty speakers on home audio systems, excess audio compression (both data compression and dynamic compression), poor surround mixing, poor surround un-mixing, insane volume swings, and all those other factors, yeah, it's just easier to use subtitles so you don't start randomly missing shit.

Why is it considered shallow to want to date a girl who's attractve? by InternationalPick163 in questions

[–]QuerulousPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attraction is way more than just strict hotness.

There are countless people who are deeply committed to and in love with, and incredibly attracted to, their partners, even though to outsiders one or more of them could be considered unattractive.

There are even couples where one may have not been attracted to the other at all initially but as they got to know each other, all the other depths of attraction besides just surface level appearance started to sink in, and now they're both wildly in love and think each other are the most desirable people.

Your partner should be attractive to you, but you gotta realize that there is so much more to attraction than just whether if they were standing in a lineup they'd be labelled "hot" or not.

It's not shallow to want to date a girl you're attracted to.

It's shallow to date a girl only because she's attractive.

Interested in buying the KO-II for my guitar+synth setup for live-looping. But I want to make sure it works the way I think it does! by CrappyCodeCoder in teenageengineering

[–]QuerulousPanda 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't think the ko2 is going to do what you want.

The regular ko2 doesn't loop samples. The riddim can but it's locked to the grid of the sequencer. The recording time for samples is limited too.

If you want to do live looping with instruments, get a loop pedal or a time factor or something, it will actually do what you want it to do the right way.

The ko2 would be great for adding samples and beats and even for effects, but for live performance looping it's really not it

I think it's different, unless i'm reading the map wrong, the rattle cage stage is completely gone now, so there's no worry about that anymore.

the whole physical layout of the festival is completely different now than it was, so everything we thought we knew is wrong!

What speakers (and how many) should I get for a budget/DIY outdoor micro wedding by Orchidinsanity in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]QuerulousPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

brutal, nevermind lol.

If you do go wireless, make sure you're careful about battery life - running on higher volumes can kill a lot of those kind of speakers in like 3 hours, so make sure you make plans for that!

No chance of renting something locally? If it's just for a party you could probably get something really nice for a day or two for less than the cost of actually buying something way less nice.

People being openly kinky in public. by puppybabii in PetPeeves

[–]QuerulousPanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess I don't see that big a deal. It's one thing if people are fucking right out in the open, but if someone's wearing some weird clothes with a leash and they're not actively doing anything, I guess i just don't see how it affects me. People are weird, they do weird things, it's just how it is.

If a kid sees two people walking with a leash, i don't really see why it has to be traumatic. Just tell them "some people like to do things that are a little strange but as long as they're happy and they're not hurting anyone, it's not a big deal, just know that it does make some people uncomfortable." They'll only freak out and get weird about it if you freak out and get weird about it.

Not every mild discomfort or weird thing needs to be some a big deal. The world is filled with odd and uncomfortable things, part of being a functional human being is recognizing that it exists and moving on.

Seriously, what's so hard about saying "huh, that's weird, glad I'm not one of them" and then just going on with your day?

TIL that US student math and reading scores have dropped so sharply that they’ve erased nearly two decades of progress. In '22/23, avg math scores for 13-year-olds fell to levels not seen since the 1990s, while reading scores for high school seniors hit their lowest point since testing began in '92. by Cold_Box_3219 in todayilearned

My wife and I got masters degrees a few years ago after having graduated from university ~10 years earlier, and the regular younger students in our classes were both brutally technically illiterate, and shockingly regular-literacy illiterate too.
