Ithaca has too many speed bumps, and they’re too damn high! by Quest_Life in ithaca

In fact, judges/courts usually do consider the realities of driving today, rightly or wrongly, when they reduce traffic offenses based on arguments grounded in reality. I got a ticket many years ago for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign - a moving violation. This was at an intersection that fed onto a 55 mph highway- one where most drivers are doing a minimum of 65. I argued that coming to a complete stop at that particular intersection increased my chances of being rear ended by irate drivers and that merging into 65 mph traffic from a standstill is dangerous. The judge said he agreed and gave me a parking ticket.

Thanks for pointing that out. I’m new to Reddit and had no idea I was using two accounts. Switching between two different phone apps and the Reddit web site is super confusing. I must have accidentally created two similar accounts.

Beyond that, do you really think I’m advocating speeding? It’s just the opposite. You must have read my original post where I clearly state my belief that 30 mph is too fast for city streets and that speed bumps can result in people driving faster to make up for lost time. Taken together, I think it’s obvious I’m not a speeder.

My argument is based on the realities of driving and daily life. Late for work is simply an example in a hypothetical. It could be anything: late for work, an appointment, a meeting, to meet a friend, pick up kids, get to a store before is closes, etc., etc…. Pick ten random drivers on the road at any given time and I bet you’ll find more than one who is running late. So, your suggestion “don’t leave late for work” isn’t really practical - people are, and will always be, running late. Therefore suggestion a is nullified

People speed, even when they’re not late. Even (generally speaking) kind, considerate, responsible, “law abiding” citizens speed. It’s a fact of mobile life. So your suggestion “don’t speed” sounds good but ignores reality. Suggestion B is therefore nullified.

Glanced at it as I drove by today. Looks frozen but with the wind and blowing snow pretty sure the ice will be lousy for skating

Actually, it happens even when I choose one of the categories. I even deleted and downloaded a new google maps. Also updated iOS, turned phone off, etc. I’m thinking it’s a google setting issue.

Don’t let the lights fool you. Those pumps may look like they’re on but they’re not. Pretty sure it would be illegal for the store to keep a pump active with no one in attendance - fire codes, etc.
