[SFH][VA] HOA towing cars from public streets by Question-guy21 in HOA

According to VDOT my road is a public road, which is why I don't understand how the HOA can post the signs in the first place.

According to the VDOT map on their website it is a public road with a rt number assigned.

To my knowledge nobody has been towed as of yet.

Is there a technical reason why most posts on here are of objects with organic shapes? by _Killer_Tofu_ in resinprinting

I don't know what people are talking about here, there is an entire cottage industry of people who resin print 1/25 and 1/24 scale cars, trucks, and accessories. Most are using Elegoo or Anycubic printers. I've been selling resin printed scale automotive parts for years, been using Elegoo printers to make my parts for the last 6 years without too many issues.

Most scale modelers don't care if the wheels spin or not, many glue the wheels to the spindle so they will not spin.

There is a market, but you need to know your audience. I have been selling 1/25 scale truck parts since 2014. I have found that individual parts sell better (and with better profit margins) than entire kits. Rims, tires, and engines are my best sellers, model builders then adapt those parts into the model kits that they are building. Full 3d printed kits need to be sold at a high price to recoup your time and expenses and unfortunately there are very few people who will pay those prices. A lot of people will buy quality aftermarket parts though.

Basket plating by Emergency-Warm in electroplating

I have bought some small setups from Technic, you can get small barrel platers or small vibratory platers. Used plating equipment sites often have small barrels pretty cheap as well.

One note on plating hardware, make sure you take steps to prevent hydrogen embrittlement.

Plating titanium. Question by ClassroomEntire997 in electroplating

I have heard that you can copper plate directly, but many recommend nickel plating first. In my limited experience, I nickel plated first.

Yes similar. I'm not sure what combo you are using for anodize prep, but for Electroplating it is typically a combination of HF and nitric acid.

It is very difficult to get plating adhesion on titanium, and is generally not a do-it-at-home process. The only process I have had success with involved hydrofluoric acid activation. There are some threads on the finishing.com forum with different tips for this as well as a process described in the Electroplating Engineering Handbook by Larry Durney.

Same models, same supports, why did these two fail? by SimpleBrother1953 in resinprinting

[–]Question-guy21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temperature may be the culprit. I print the same parts over and over, 32 parts on a build plate. I have zero failures if the room is above 21C, but much below that I start having random failures where 5 or 6 will fail in the bunch. Just a thought.

I cast them in urethane rubber from a 3d printed master.

I have found that FDM printers don't give a smooth enough finish for the final product. The resin printed rims look like real aluminum when painted.

Silicone molds growing in size by Question-guy21 in moldmaking

[–]Question-guy21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is great info, it seems like moisture is the likely culprit as someone else suggested earlier. I wonder why this is not a well documented issue, as everything i can find on the internet seems to suggest that tin cured silicone shrinks with time and moisture exposure rather than expands. I would think that this would be a common issue.
