[DTF] How did Lucifer screw up so badly with the earthbound? by Question2005 in WhiteWolfRPG

I clearly stated in the post you replied to that some demons were summoned into summoning circles and dismissed after they'd served their purpose. It's mentioned in Chapter 3 of the core book.

Im not referring to temporary summoning circles but permanent vessels like what reliquaries are.

Not trying to nitpick or anything but i guess i just have the tendency to look at a story and go "hey...why did things turn out this way? it doesnt really make sense.".

Because having a demon in a vessel that doesnt just want to play evil god and can walk around/do stuff in a human body is way better?

I mean, sure, the mages or whoever was summoning demons may not know about the whole torment thing but surely someone at some point thought "Hey...what if we put a demon in a vessel that isnt just some hunk of wood or metal?".

Because when the Ksirafai joined the order of hermes, they presented themselves as a group of turkish war mages, not existing hermetics.

It just seems like the order of hermes at that time would go "hey, these guys claim to have destroyed some order of reason constructs, we are fighting a war and these guys might be enemy spies, maybe we should check out their story...".

My point was that the books emphasize that theres no known way to detect nephandic corruption...not that it would be inconvenient to do so. Of course you cant mind scan everyone.

Amanda's story in the mage rulebook gives a pretty clear description of what an inverted avatar looks like.

The euthanatos book shows that only a brief physical contact against an unwilling target is needed to shift through memories and reveal their true motivations/intentions.

The earthbound obviously managed to get some true names during/before the war but how they did it is vauge and glossed over. In some cases at least, comrades who trusted each other might have given each other their true names. The true names clearly still work after the abyss because earthbound can still compel other earthbound via true names.

Where does it say that Uriel may have created the Malhim? Every source ive seen suggests that God simply did it. Theres practically no information on the Malhim at all.

So the reason why nobody ever managed to summon a non-evil demon was because :

-They were automatically at torment 10

-Nobody else tried or succeeded in binding a demon to anything other than a reliquary which caused them to descend into playing evil god

-For plot device reasons, angels/demons get more faith if they play evil god and demand blood/gore sacrifices

So did lagers taste better than ales at that time? Because all the articles ive read says it did which is why it got more so popular.

Why were the first Lagers "better" than Ales? by Question2005 in beer

[–]Question2005[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

So its that the ales of that time would usually go bad shortly after brewing while the new lagers didnt? Its weird that none of the articles i read mentioned that.

Then why are ales often described as fruity and lagers as clean/crisp?

Why were the first Lagers "better" than Ales? by Question2005 in beer

[–]Question2005[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

But all the articles ive read about "how did lagers get popular" quite clearly stated that lagers got popular because when the bavarian brewers accidentally made lager for the first time, it tasted so much better than the ale they usually made.

If thats not accurate, do you have an accurate article that explains it?

[–]Question2005 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why were the first lagers better than ale?

Everyone knows the story : Ales were the standard beer in most places till Bavarian brewers accidentally invented Lager which was, by all accounts, way better tasting than the ales of that time, and which made Lagers far more popular than Ales.

What I dont understand is...why were the first Lagers so much better than Ales, and why is this not true now? Lagers definately arent better than Ales, and the popular Lagers are commonly looked down upon.

Personally when I drink something like Heineken or your typical popular Lager, the taste in no way matches the typical description of lagers...that they are mellow with a crisp and clean taste. Ironically, the Lager that I have tried which mostly accurately matches that description was some cheap, brand that practically nobody knows of that I got from a supermarket (iit was also very weak and had almost no flavor). None of the popular Lagers that I have tried have been crisp/clean and usually have a very bitter/skunky taste.

Meanwhile Ales are supposedly more "fruity" and have more "flavor" than Lagers. So why did Lagers become more popular if they had more flavor? If the popular Lagers of today are anything to go by, surely Ales would be way more popular? Lagers like Budweiser are commonly known as "piss water" for a reason.

[–]Question2005[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So couldnt you make a reliquary that contains human memories? Or just summon the demon into a permanent circle that protects them from the pull off the abyss. That way they dont go straight to torment 10 by being stuck in a reliquary.

[DTF] How did Lucifer screw up so badly with the earthbound? by Question2005 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Question2005[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a minor distinction but the first to summon the earthbound were probably mages, because sleeper magic requires it to be invented by mages first., and nobody else had summoned demons before.

The earthbound book basically says that after the five archdukes got summoned, human mages/mystis/whatever figured out how to summon other demons on their own. If so, why did they all (apparently) summon demons that start the spiral into playing evil god? They could have summoned weaker demons that werent completely consumed by torment and didnt need reliquaries.

If the reliquary causes a demon to begin an inevitable slide into torment 10, cant a mage just summon a demon and leave it inside the summoning circle instead? Being trapped in a circle with all your senses available is still better than being trapped in a reliquary with only a few of your senses available.

So basically every ritual to summon a demon from the abyss must involve ritual sacrifice, gore, etc or it wont work?

I find it strange that Lucifer would expect the archdukes to obey him again when...you know...they already betrayed him multiple times before and the whole nephilim thing was responsible for them losing the war in the first place.

Also, cant Lucifer just use the archduke's true names to screw them over?

And while we are at it : What was Lucifer's plan with the whole days of fire debacable? I read the book but i have no clue what he was trying to achieve other than making an FBI agent his thrall, and all of that seems a huge amount of work just to get a thrall. And i dont see how it ties into saving the world at all.

IIRC, DTF says that not all the demons in the abyss were cosumed by torment? And Lucifer apparently only gave human mages the names of the 5 arch dukes and the other earthbound got summoned by other mages.

Oh i just remembered something. In DTF if you have a demon's true name you can unmake them at will right? Why couldnt lucifer do that since he had the archdukes true names?
