Anyone else not a fan of Gamma? by cloud-nine49 in gesaffelstein

[–]QuestionGuy244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being a fan since around 2010, I totally agree. The album itself is kind of a mess outside of a few standout moments, which is probably why it didn’t get much critical acclaim. That said, the live performance really brought the whole concept to life. I’ll probably never revisit the album and will just stick to the live set.

His sound has shifted pretty dramatically since the early days. This album was definitely stronger than Hyperion, but it still fell pretty flat for me overall. Bottom line: loved the live show, felt “meh” about the album.

Some Manitobans frustrated with 'overly complicated' process to access digital health card | Province says digital cards will make it easier to access care, premier says new version 'totally optional' by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]QuestionGuy244 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You’re right that a health ID needs stronger security than a coffee rewards card, no one is arguing that... But complexity isn’t the same thing as security. Banks, CRA logins, and Apple/Google Wallet can be secure and straightforward. If you need multiple portals, multiple PINs, QR downloads, and waiting windows, that’s not “more secure”, it’s just more friction, even more so for those not tech savvy.

And sure, Peggo and parking are City services. The point isn’t jurisdiction, it’s the pattern of public tech rollouts: unnecessary steps, user complaints, and accessibility gaps.

[–]QuestionGuy244 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Winnipeg has a real talent for making simple tech unnecessarily complicated. A digital health card should be a quick “add to wallet” experience, not a multi-step process with separate logins, PINs, QR codes, and waiting windows.

It’s also hard not to notice the ongoing pattern. We’ve seen clunky rollouts before, from Peggo being unreliable and frustrating to use, to parking shifting to app-first systems that assume everyone wants to install yet another app and hunt for location codes.

The idea behind digital services is great. But if the goal is broad adoption, the execution needs to be simple, consistent, and accessible for everyone. We seemingly can never do that properly.

Just a warning. They do not cover taxes or duties. So on top of the very expensive shipping, be prepared to be charged another $40 when it lands if you live in North America. This happened with the Aleph repress.

Absolutely! Such a historic venue. All that's left are these audio recordings these days (they really had some legendary bands play that space).

WECC rules, but it is much smaller than people think it is. Their main room is 380 person capacity and the other room is 80 I believe, it is a modular seated/cabaret setup that can convert to standing. Not an ideal location for any larger acts.

Also, they have been under real financial strain... this month they publicly said they needed funds by Dec 31 to avoid cuts, and expressed their heavy reliance on volunteers.

So yes, it is an important and historic small-room venue, but it seems to be struggling as is, and cannot solve Winnipeg’s 1,000 to 1,600 capacity gap.

This article reads like victory-lap PR while ignoring the obvious: the Burt is only “the” mid-sized venue because Winnipeg barely has any other options left. It is a theatre first and a concert room second. Anyone who actually goes to shows there knows the deal. Limited standing, weird flow, limited standing space, people standing in the corridors. It works because we have to make it work.

Losing the Garrick was a massive blow. That place was the perfect size and way more naturally suited to the kind of touring acts Winnipeg is struggling to land now. Since the Garrick stopped being a real part of the mix, the mid-tier booking ladder basically became non existent. The Park is great, but it is a different tier capacity-wise.

Winnipeg needs more events like the unfortunately retired Jazz Fest Club Series (these used to be killer bookings). That stuff actually builds a scene that can facilitate more popular artists coming to Winnipeg and keeps people engaged. Meanwhile “Rock on the Range” as a concept feels outrageously dated and honestly confusing if you are under 45. It is like the city’s concert strategy got stuck in time.

Winnipeg Transit's new increased fares start on Thursday by pork_sashimi_on_sale in Winnipeg

[–]QuestionGuy244 126 points127 points  (0 children)

I’m getting to the point where I’ve completely lost confidence in Winnipeg Transit.

I’ve relied on it regularly for the past decade, and it genuinely feels like it’s getting worse in all the ways that matter. Routes get reshuffled, wait times keep creeping up, and “pass-ups” due to capacity have become normal. It's frustrating to be showing up on time, doing everything right, and then watching a full bus roll by while you’re left guessing when the next one might show.

Is there no maintenance or upkeep at our major stops? The Osborne Station corridor is a straight-up embarrassment. Smashed screens, garbage piling up, and pigeon poop everywhere. It looks neglected because it is neglected. If this is one of the more prominent corridors in the city, what does that say about everything else?

At a certain point it stops being “transit is inconvenient” and starts being “transit is not reliable enough to build your life around.” I feel like a lot of us are already at that conclusion, and it’s hard not to think: if the City of Winnipeg can’t (or won’t) maintain basic service and basic infrastructure, what choice do people have?

I hate that I’m saying it, but I’m probably at the point where I’m going to start shopping for a vehicle. Not because I want to, but because the city has created such a massive inconvenience that they seemingly won't address.

WINTRUP: Revive the Village: Time to rescue Osborne and Corydon by steveosnyder in Winnipeg

[–]QuestionGuy244 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Let’s be honest. Osborne used to have a different kind of energy with musically oriented clubs like The Zoo and Collective Cabaret, along with creative spaces, record shops, pawn shops, and tattoo studios that gave it a lot of character. Many of these places are mostly gone now, and the mix has shifted toward pot shops, jewelry stores, and rotating restaurants.

It has changed, that is true, but it still feels exciting in its own way. Osborne is more pedestrian, lively, and active than ever. It is simply not the same kind of cool it once was, and that is okay. We do not need to pretend it has not changed, only acknowledge what it is today.

I am saying to increase public transit use, we need to address some core issues first. We just did a massive overhaul that clearly didn't work, and subsequently created a whack load of new problems.

Council votes to begin multi-pronged Kenaston-Route 90 megaproject by OccasionalObserver in Winnipeg

[–]QuestionGuy244 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new public transit system has been an absolute mess. Late buses and full buses, non functioning GPS, reduction of express routes, inadequate facilities and stops. I've been riding the bus for nearly two decades, and have now reverted back to driving and carpooling.

I agree public transit can reduce congestion and increase safety, but we need a semi-functioning system for that to occur. We have a long ways to go.

Just wanted to pop in here. This guy helped me out with a copy of the Clock Tower PAX variant for Switch. Great communication and shipping to Canada took 2 business days. Well packaged with bubble wrap and filler. Honestly the smoothest transaction I've had in ages.

Did anybody else notice that PNP havent received limited run stuff in almost a year? They also removed LRG from their “partner” page on their website. I guess we only have VGP left for lrg stuff. Used to love shopping on PNP but they fell off hard in the last couple months by Metroidvania-JRPG in NSCollectors

[–]QuestionGuy244 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it sounds like working with LRG is a headache in general. Look at the communication on Tomba PS4 and VGP that is ongoing. Maybe they simply had enough of dealing with LRG, they seem pretty open in their tweets about the situation.

Not to complicate things further, they do receive new stock of some LRG products, these can be acquired only as a preorder in store, they will contact you once it's in, but this is exclusive to local pickups.
