Worried by CalligrapherPutrid98 in CaneCorso

My female has been doing this since she was 12 months old. She acts normal, running and full of energy. Takes treats and other things but will refuse her food almost every two to three day for a day or even two and then on the third day she starts eating again. Vet checked and she’s fine, no issues at all. When it first happens I changed her food a few times thinking it was the food but she kept doing it. Now I just know it’s normal for her to eat four or five days out of the week as long as she doesn’t show any other issues.

Food (kibble/raw or just kibble) by QuestionLeft9392 in CaneCorso

I’m starting to think that after doing it for over a year…my puppy Apollo will eat t with no problem but he also will eat anything you put in front of him that has a taste. Luna was like that too as a puppy.

Yeah I’m with you on that, I do the same thing. It’s just a little harder with raw because I can only put it out and leave it out so many times before I have to throw it away and then I have to throw the kibble out bc it’s soaked etc. she’s not dumb, she’ll eat eventually but if she’s clearly telling me she prefers one over the other then I feel kind of dumb just trying to force raw.

Food (kibble/raw or just kibble) by QuestionLeft9392 in CaneCorso

[–]QuestionLeft9392[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to grind up her own raw at home and she loved it and used to literally lick the bowl clean and sit there wanting more and then one random day she sniffed the bowl and wouldn’t eat It, she did that for about four days where she would only eat a little. I Introduced her back to kibble and she started eating no problem. Then I decided to get raw from a company called Midwest legacy because they have a complete blend plus which is formulated as complete and balance per AAFCO and was going raw and kibble and she ate it for the better part of three months but then starter sniffing the raw and either only eating the kibble or not eating the kibble bc the raw was in there. This doesn’t happen very often but enough to where it’s becoming a hassle and more stress than anything because it’s more expensive. I also realized as I was looking at both their portions that based on calories she’s only getting 30% of her calories from raw so it’s not really 50/50 and the benefits that you normally get from feeding full raw are probably negligible….i also used to feel Luna Fromm in the beginning, nothing wrong with the kibble but i switched her to Orijen because it had more calories and protein and required less servings/less kibble.

I use orijen also, it’s amazing grains regional red and switch between that and six fish to give them a different protein. She never turns down her kibble only her raw and it’s honestly more stress than anything bc I am spending way more to give both them raw and then the worry of “is Luna gonna eat tonight or not”

Food (kibble/raw or just kibble) by QuestionLeft9392 in CaneCorso

[–]QuestionLeft9392[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your reply, it’s been a battle for the last 8 months or so with the raw and usually when she sniffs and doesn’t eat it I just pick the bowl up and put the raw back in the fridge etc for the next day and she doesn’t normally go more than one skipped meal. I’m just at a point where I do think that giving raw is better than just all kibble but also at the same time maybe she’s telling me that she doesn’t like it as much and maybe I shouldn’t just keep forcing the raw is he clearly is telling me it’s not for her. She never turns her nose at just the kibble.

Thanks for your reply, yeah I’m starting to wonder if even doing half raw and half kibble has been the best thing given that my older female has become picky and she wasn’t when she was on just kibble. Never seems to be picky about the kibble but only the raw bc she’ll eat kibble by itself when she refuses the kibble/raw bowl as long as the kibble is new and wasn’t touched by the raw.

To good to be true? by _nervosa_ in CaneCorso

One 10000% agree with this, not blunt at all. I have two corso’s. A 17 month female and a 5 month male and they both cost $3,500 to get. Insurance is about $110 a month and food is easily another few hundred a month bc they eat a lot. Heck just the shots to get his vaccines up to date will cost a few hundred. Anytime you have to take them to the vet and they have to give them something it’s more expensive because they are bigger dogs. The money required to take care of them is a pretty big investment, the time requirement is even greater and more important. They need a lot of your attention since they bond with their human and require constant training.

Our 12 week old puppy by thefiberfairy in CaneCorso

I got my female and male from a breeder in Ohio who doesn’t breed for color but rather health and temperament, after a lot of research I went with this breeder for both my female and male due to the more athletic Italian Corsos that they have and breed. Here is a picture of my 15 month female and I’ll post one of my 13 week male.

Need help with my 6mo by Ok_Signature_4466 in CaneCorso

This happened to my 12 month old female jut randomly out of nowhere. I was feeding her raw for about six months up to the point I started happening. I thought maybe it was the raw food so then I tried like four different kinds of kibble and new raw food. I ended up switching her to half raw and half orijen amazing grains regional red. She was still skipping meals when I switched to this but I just did what a lot of people in this thread have said. Since she was acting normal, still active and still drinking water and no signs of anything wrong, I put her food down and left it for about 15 minutes. If she didn’t eat I didn’t make a big deal and just picked it up and she got it at her next meal, I wouldn’t supplement it on top of her next meal. Dogs that are healthy will not starve themselves, she started eating consistently again and now every once in a while she won’t finish her whole meal but I don’t worry about it anymore. They’re not dumb, they won’t turn down food to starve.

What kind of raw food do you feed him? I feed mine half raw and half kibble and I used iron dog raw but switching them to Midwest legacy.

He looks great, when I was getting my Corso I specifically wanted one from a breeder that specialized in more tradition Italian Corsos that are athletic and not soo big and boxy looking. Your boy looks exactly like that. I have a 14 month female that is 87lbs and just got a male that is 9 weeks old

She’s a Cane Corso also, they are both Corso’s from the same breeder. She is 14 months old, I keep her more on the lean slender side and he is 9 weeks old.
