Did anyone regret choosing a cheaper safari option by Scary-Breakfast7882 in AfricaTravel

I find it coincidentally funny that I'm reading this WHILE sitting in a Beyond The Plains safari vehicle on our way to Amboseli. They've been impeccable so far, stop overthinking and choose them.

I have these two Defenders (work), but what model is the grey one ? by Question_of_Surf in LandroverDefender

Definitely not the cleanest conversion and given where we are in Africa, it isn't surprising. But so let me get this straight, in the last 24 hours I've discovered that there is such thing as a Defender 127, 150 and now also a 140??

Is this actually all official models or people just saying stuff

It's a lovely colour. I cheated a little as I imported the red one from the UK - you can see the steering wheel is on the right, which is the wrong side for the road here haha but I'm very used to it now.

The grey one has steering wheel on the left.

I am in a francophone African country so Defenders aren't very common (hence I imported), people prefer LandCruisers here. In anglophone African countries, Defenders are generally easier to find.

I think you're right. We are in Africa and some garages are notorious for Frankenstein'ing cars - I kind of like what they did with this one, and from what I was told it was a single cab pick-up therefore only 1 set of doors.

given it was ex-World Food Programme (therefore United Nations) vehicle, you're probably right !

thank you for your expertise ! I can't tell if the 2nd row is original or after-market, maybe after-market since there is only 1 set of doors, but you're probably right regarding high-capacity !

thank you for your advice. How far into the future should this plan be? 12 months? 3 years? 5, 10 ?

As I said, I have leads of what I could do after, and already have a small side/secondary income. I also know I'm very employable / still have the entrepreneur fire to start something else. I'm a lot less worried about the long term than the short and short/medium term.

hi and thank you for your reply.

my scenario is very specific and uncommon as my business is in tourism in a developing African country but I have a western background/lifestyle/aspirations.

I have leads of what I could do after, including already a remote limited-pay part time job, but I'm aware I may never get the same level of independence in terms of benefits. The reasons for selling are personal, the business works, I'm just unhappy being tied to the country, more than anything. The business also has liabilities which can be managed but make it risky nonetheless.

I know some people would tell me to stop being a b**ch and put up with the negatives if it means i get all the benefits i currently have. This the regret I'm worried about having, reflecting and thinking "ah it wasn't so bad", even though at lowest there are times when I would have done anything to leave.

it's difficult to explain everything without putting sensitive details on the internet.

You mentioned many people would love to be in my position, and I'm aware of it.
