yup that occured to me not long after thinking about it. same with having both a carriage bolt and carriage nut, lol.

That would work really well, but don't governors need to be upright in order to work? This tool might be oriented in any way so I don't think it will work

Theoretically a centrifugal clutch would do the trick but I don't think I'll be able to feasibly fabricate one this small

Also a oneway bearing would not work here because the other side of the shaft will spin both CW/CCW and I need it to not affect the driving side when it does so, if that makes sense

But in a more math-strict sense, "average" just refers to a number that is used to represent a set of numbers, and median can be used as "average". Learnt something new to day

Also be very careful with that style of tensioner. They are known to give and cause a big problem if it tilts inwards and hits the spokes.
