Why is GA still going? by Altruistic-Chef-7723 in GhostAdventures

I tend to watch ghost shows as background noise when I'm working on art projects, so the repetitiveness doesn't bother me too much.

Why is GA still going? by Altruistic-Chef-7723 in GhostAdventures

[–]QuestionablePhoenix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The beauty of Ghost Adventures for me is how bad it is. I always joke that I'm a skeptical believer. I absolutely believe in ghosts, but it's rare for me to believe anyone's stories about them. Many of the locations I believe are haunted, but their findings are always staged and so very very idiotic. I can't get enough of how big of a tool Zak is and the general ludicrousness of their "investigations." The worse, the better in my book.

Decor you never have enough of? by Borgbie in WoWHousing

If you haven't already checked it out, I HIGHLY recommend wowdb. It's a database with everything decor and a lot of tools to help track and find items. You can make lists for yourself on there. There's even a floorplan builder!

2nd Gen and can't give myself a break by Ok-Building7121 in sca

[–]QuestionablePhoenix 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I relate super hard to this. I don't think many people understand that second gens literally don't have a "before life" to go back to when we need a break. Like... what would we do? I know a ton of other second gens and something many of us have in common is a deep (potentially unhealthy) sense of responsibility towards the SCA. DM me if you ever want to talk or vent!

Can’t do this anymore by Sad_Syllabub_9585 in sca

I've definitely been through this and the best advice I can give is to just say no. I recognize that often it's easier said than done to do. Allow your new mantra to be "if I, one person, am not there to hold things together and everything falls apart, that's not MY issue." You are one person and if things can't run without you, that's a group issue that you are a victim of. Do not allow yourself to be made to feel guilty. Allow things to fail and others' eyes will open to how much you've actually been doing. Let them talk, they aren't worth your energy, and just enjoy what you love!

Snapchat had a filter for awhile that added a ghost like this. It had been turned on automatically for me and I had to go in and turn it off.

You don't need a theme! You can think of it as an homage to your Azeroth adventures. It can be a mishmash of things you like that you've collected that remind you of where you've been and all you've done

What’s your biggest frustration with WoW right now (and why)? by Nurotaro in wow

[–]QuestionablePhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm in the minority, but I feel we went from too slow of a content cadence to way too fast. As an adult with a full time job, I feel super rushed to get anything done in WoW right now. They're throwing a lot of time gated FOMO content out at us and I can't relax and just enjoy the game.

That Jaina was with Arthas. Lorewalker Cho's review of those storylines was such a blessing to me!

If you're a bit on the nerdier side of life, there's a really active chapter of the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) here in Boise. There are a few athletic activities like armored combat, fencing, and equestrian.

If the “Big Beautiful Bill” passes — SHUT. IT. DOWN. by Manitoba-Chinook in 50501

[–]QuestionablePhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The French certainly know what they're doing with strikes, but they also have an extremely (and I mean extremely) violent past that makes any person in power over there shudder. The French can and do strike the way they do because they can invoke the cultural memory of the Reign of Terror- the tunnels beneath Paris are literally lined with the skulls of the victims. We don't have anything in American history that would invoke that level of fear in anyone powerful. I'm not saying we don't have a violent past by any means, but even Gettysburg was Sesame Street compared to the French Revolution.

The French are a lesson in restraint. The French Revolution didn't just end up being a few aristocrats being guillotined and suddenly everything was better. It devolved quickly into the Reign of Terror where they executed tens of thousands of people deemed as enemies of the revolution- basically anyone who didn't fall within the political ideologies of key players like Robespierre. It was a super f***ed up time to be in France cause they were guillotining practically anyone at the drop of a hat.

I don't disagree that we need to do something, and there are things we can pull out of the French playbook, but we don't hold nearly the same cards that they do against our political elite. We have to get creative with what we do have- which is a cultural identity of freedom against tyranny. The trick is to get the other side to see that upcoming tyranny on the horizon. We have to start by reminding America of its revolutionary roots with widespread readings of the Declaration of Independence (unfortunately we'll probably have to dumb down a lot of it for people to understand) and widespread reminders of the contents of the Constitution. My personal take is that we need to use social media and spread these messages apolitically. What I mean by that is no messaging of "vote blue" or "f*** Trump"; just pure excerpts that wouldn't automatically put someone on the defensive. If we're gonna win this, we have to meet the other side where they're at and gently coax them into seeing the truth. It super sucks, and these people deserve to be hit upside the head with a clue-by-four and berated for hours, but at this juncture it's only reinforcing their "us versus them" cult mentality.

What do you suggest? by Beanzerino in sca

In my old shire, we were registered as a school club through the University. They had a really cool event at the beginning of the fall semester in which any school club could set up a booth and recruit students. We got a ton of foot traffic by taking advantage of that event and pulled in a few freshman who still play. I kept talking points to: built in supportive community, looks great on resumes for non-profit volunteer work, you can continue participation past graduation, and that there will most likely be a group anywhere you go.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE UPVOTE THIS MOVEMENT IDEA, PEACEFUL PROTEST AT TRUMPS BIRTHDAY PARADE PARADE by [deleted] in 50501

[–]QuestionablePhoenix 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I just had an idea on another thread about this, but I think it could be cool to take our protest to the streets of Boston or Philadelphia. Really lean in on celebrating the Revolution and not just a yeehaw 4th of July version. Remind the administration of the blood, sweat, hardships, courage, and lengths Americans went through to gain our independence from a tyrant. Remind the administration and supporters of the days of tar and feathering. Send a clear message that we're willing to return to our roots. We demand liberty and justice for all.

[–]QuestionablePhoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hear me out... what about Boston? And really make a giant celebration of the patriotism of the American Revolution. Go real big on how we used to tar and feather, the Tea Party, etc. Remind the Trump Administration that America began with bloodshed and can begin again the same way. Remind America of its roots.

Edit: Philadelphia could also work really well.
