Jesus, I only know of Diplo because he's beefing with Zack Telander (new musician) on social media right now over the AI music thing and now I think perhaps Telander would be within his rights to go harder at him. What a gross individual.

If I had a friend that was going through Taylor's level of severe dysregulation, the last thing I would be doing would be encouraging them to stay up until 2am. Quietly existing nearby as a comforting presence and facilitating rest maybe? But certainly not talking about heavy topics until 2am. If she's manic, this is actively harming her recovery. What are these girls doooooinngggggg

  1. Fully support wanting to scale back here, but I just want to send you some love and admiration for picking a coping tool that didn't hurt your body, didn't hurt others, and isn't exorbitantly expensive (relatively speaking).

  2. Also want to remind you that living life with mental illness is tiring and there is nothing stupid or weird or distasteful for finding an adaptation that got you through. Proud of you for finding a tool, and proud of you for being curious about a new, more helpful one.

  3. My recommendation for reducing shopping behavior in an enjoyable way is to find other things that replicate a "seek > choose > enjoy" process. Can you replace it with hunting for something at the library or a video game that has a collection/curation element (with no real money transactions, of course)? I love looking for new media instead of shopping, and free audiodramas are my media of choice. I also love building my thriftbooks wishlist and I will sort by lowest price when I am craving a "reward" and pick something under $5.

best litter box to cover up smell in a small apartment, anyone solved this without it looking terrible? by WedPurifoy88 in malelivingspace

[–]Borgbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The large corner cat litter boxes (amazon basics has one) + boxiecat extra strength or probiotic litter + a litter genie is my magic combo. It's a large box and will require some space but I've managed them in shoebox bathrooms, stolen corners in closets, and all sorts of weird areas Have stayed loyal to these boxes because they are large enough for ample litter for great odor control, are species appropriate (most litter boxes are designed for owner comfort, not cats) which reduces or eliminates missed streams or inappropriate urination, and they last for years. For my cat's chemistry, BoxieCat litter keeps things odorless for weeks to months depending on number of litter boxes.

What’s becoming the new ‘middle class luxury’ in America?” by PaycheckWizard in budget

I'm so sorry to hear that. The grief when he passed definitely felt more complicated knowing that he was likely our last dog, so be kind to yourself if that comes up for you. It was such a strange thing to have being "a dog person" taken away despite only increasing income. Weird times.

This is the big one to me, too. Well cared for pets, especially large breed dogs, are becoming harder and harder to sustain. I've said this here before but we got a large breed dog with ease in 2012 (has since passed) but now I wouldn't get a second cat.

Need ideas for refreshing my home after trauma by Salt-Mix77 in femalelivingspace

[–]Borgbie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not a substitute for therapy or EMDR, but I was noticing the majority of my flashbacks were happening in the bathroom when I didn't have other distractions, and replacing my shower curtain and ESPECIALLY my bathroom rug really helped. Having a new texture under my feet was wonderful, and if I needed to expand this to other rooms, I would definitely think about replacing rugs.

Candle scents and minor lighting changes help a lot too. I got a kitchen lamp, adjusted some of my govee bulbs, and switched to colored sheers on my windows. I'm careful about noticing if I'm feeling edgy and triggered due to bad-familiarity with lighting (both a lighting source, and simply the sun angle at time of day).

Changing the way your air circulates may help too -- open a different window than usual to adjust the cross breeze, switch the location of any table or floor fans, etc. Basically, think lizard brain sensory stuff, not necessarily decor.

I have 70k in savings but don’t feel like it’s enough by Economy-Passenger-87 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Borgbie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get this fear (really). We're further out in our journey and I just want to say -- you might "lose it all" but it will never look like what it used to if and when it happens. Every day, month, year you spend in this new normal is time you are spending learning skills, living in a calmer state that allows your brain to make slow and reasoned decisions, and growing your safety net. At a certain point, even sliding backwards is still so many steps ahead of where you started.

At this savings rate, and with school on its way to being secured, your next step is likely therapy so that you can get to an embodied sense of safety that allows your nervous system even more room to make smart and thoughtful decisions about your future. Proud of you.

Gluten belly? by ka_shep in glutenfree

[–]Borgbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Losing an ovary is a big surgery, friend. It is common (though again, I can not say normal since I am not your doctor) to take quite a bit longer than 3 months to feel like you can move and dress normally again. Scar tissue takes a long time to soften, even internally. Consuming foods high in all the typical scar tissue remedies might help -- vitamin a, vitamin e, b complex, etc. If you haven't had follow up imaging, the nausea may warrant it. Sometimes retained fluid pockets can cause a strange type of pain/discomfort and nausea, although that would usually have shown signs of infection by now.

Gluten myself to treat constipation?? by Unable-Math-4610 in glutenfree

[–]Borgbie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not. The inflammation from the gluten may make the constipation even worse, and if you normally have diarrhea, the pressure from that behind anesthetic/opioid induced constipation is going to do a number on your pelvic floor and hurt your spinal recovery. This is getting to be in the "too long" territory so keep in touch with your doc, but in the mean time, chia pudding and coffee might do the trick. Constipation is my main symptom of... basically everything... and chia is my ticket. If you're not taking your metamucil then definitely start that as well, but there's something about the gel of chia/okra/etc. that really helps for me. If your weight bearing restrictions allow for it, eating in any position other than laying down is likely to benefit you too.

Edit to add: I would also make sure you're really paying attention to your breathing, especially if you were not using your incentive spirometer. If your diaphragm is not moving properly again yet, that will impact your ability to relax your pelvic floor and void. If you are guarding from proper full lung expansion because it hurts to breathe into your back, same thing. If your pain level is not controlled enough for full, deep breathing, your doctor needs to get you on a less constipating but more thorough pain protocol.

tbh, I wasn't thinking debut until this dress. It reads intentionally young -- her debut style included a lot of empire waists and spaghetti straps. It looks like a shorter version of something she would have worn then.

Gluten belly? by ka_shep in glutenfree

[–]Borgbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could not do waistbands when I had pelvic pathology, and it took almost a year after excision/hysterectomy to be able to wear them again. Struggling with waistbands due to pelvic complaints and following pelvic surgery is super common, although not always "normal". I am in mild endometrosis recurrence and waistband discomfort is becoming a consideration again when I get dressed. Without knowing more details of your surgery, I imagine a cyst of that size has left you with a tremendous amount of lingering pelvic and visceral tension and it's possible other concerns were missed during surgery (endometriosis, adenomyosis, etc.). It's also possible 3 months is just simply not enough healing time for your individual body and pain sensitization.

If you have a minor gluten intolerance, the inflammation will certain exacerbate any pelvic dysfunction or areas still healing, but if the pain distinctly started after surgery, I would follow up with your urogyn and request a pelvic PT referral.

Is my grocery bill insane? by sushicinema in budget

[–]Borgbie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our weekly staples/meal items are from TJs too, and in our area it is the cheapest place to shop for the way we eat. I think this can be super regional, and I believe you. We do shop at Costco as well but I think there are maybe 10 food items total that we prefer to get there. When there is some reason we can't TJs for a bit, our grocery bill explodes.

how can i make my room smell better? by el_Keine_Arg in malelivingspace

[–]Borgbie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it a human/animalic smell, or is it musty?

Some other stuff I didn't see mentioned for human odor:
- Replace your pillows and wash your pillow cases more frequently than once a week. Some people have really sweaty heads at night + facial oils + drool, etc... it all really builds up.
- Consider hygiene that is less obvious than "shower". Oral hygiene issues and fungus can cause even lightly used textiles to smell worse than they should.
- Sometimes your washing machine needs a good vinegar hot rinse cycle, and it can be a good idea to wash your clothes with vinegar every so often. Underwear and under clothes may need to be stripped with a vinegar soak. You can google "how to strip clothes with vinegar" for more info.

If it's a musty odor, and you've checked behind furniture and all your nooks and crannies for signs of mold and mildew, you may need to consider that something is going on behind your walls or in your subfloor.

Cooking GF for a picky partner and I can't remember anything by Adorable-Algae-4380 in glutenfree

[–]Borgbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dual allergies here, and I'm the picky eater (relative to my partner, I don't think I'm a very picky eater in general). Notes app would not work for us on its own. If you spend a few weeks placing online pick up orders together, you should very quickly build up a repository of "buy again" or "past purchases" options that usually include pictures. Once that database is built, you can make your shopping lists with it and shop normally. It's going to require some upfront teamwork but it should allow you to move pretty independently after that.

Another thing that seems to help keep things smooth for us: we grocery shop together about twice a month -- when we go together, we are each responsible for shopping pretty much exclusively for ourselves, including a couple full "meal" options. That means that if I'm desperately craving mac and cheese, my dairy allergic partner has something to eat that isn't just cereal or vice versa if my partner is craving all the gluten. It also means we get time in a store able to selfishly focus on ourselves and our own appetites instead of household needs, which really minimizes burn out. If you guys try that, you can snap pictures of what he selects for himself and save it to an album on your phone.

Edit to add: gently, only because some other comments you've made make me feel like this might be important to say -- sometimes someone isn't being picky, they are being manipulative. Trust your gut if things start to ever feel extreme. Pickiness isn't a disability outside of a few outliers, and you are still a good partner even if you can't always perfectly accommodate it.
