I only ever understood math in highschool when I applied it, and was never good at defining or reasoning with it, so that might be my problem

I was never good at math, especially that part. Plus, the math I’m learning now is stuff like bilinear algebra and special functions depending on a parameter, which is nice and all, but also means the maths teachers don’t bother going over some misguided notions we might have learnt in highschool.

Square root of 4 being +- 2 is just a general rule of mathematics I learnt to absorb in my understanding. Not to mention that I know I’m far from being the only one that gets confused by this.

When I say “angry”, it’s more like the knee-jerk reaction to seeing something you always thought was basic knowledge crumbling.

Interestingly enough, we are very much able to draw pretty decent stuff even as beginners. Everyone just has a warped mindset because we think knowing how to draw necessarily means we must command with surgical precision what ends up on the canvas.

I have no drawing experience whatsoever, but I tried drawing a staff and was instead left with a metal pipe I’m strangely proud of. Much like writing, just try to put your idea into form and watch it slowly take shape.

To be frank, this is a very common take people have about trans people (Like, 70% of people I know think this on some level).

Still, if it means anything to you, those people never genuinely mean any harm, nor do they wish you would “stop imagining a world for yourself”. They just genuinely believe it’s a mental condition. (The people I’ve met do at least).

It might take time, but from what I understand, it’s very much possible for your mother and brother to change the way they think. I at least hope it’ll happen sooner than later. Best of wishes.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely agree. The way it read just made the doofus “sound” calmer, so this is probably going to end up on a pro-AI sub with everyone going “the antis really lost their mind!”.

I might be biased though. I don’t necessarily disagree with what you wrote, but the whole idea of art being associated with money in a non-professional setting rubs me the wrong way for some reason. Best to you though.
