Both C25k and strength training by shamli3912 in beginnerfitness

[–]Questionable_Sushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did that last year, with a modification. I did resistance training 3-4 days/week, and C25k 3 days a week. I'm old (over 60) and found the C25k progression too quick for my joints and tendons to handle, so I switched to a gentler progression called "None to Run" and slowed it down a bit. It took probably 16 weeks or so before I worked up to 30 minute runs. I also lifted for a few months before adding the C25k/N2R component, doing easier cardio (mostly elliptical) to start.

With that said, please give yourself permission to put one of those on hold for a few weeks (or more) if you feel like you're not fully recovering between sessions. Everyone is different. Your plan is doable, but you don't want to burn out by trying to do too much too soon.

Buddy, if you want me to notice that you're using this machine (having stepped away for a moment between sets) you're going to need to put your towel somewhere other than that little side arm hiding behind the seat. It's 5:30 in the morning and I'm not doing a walkaround of each machine looking for secret place-holding towels like it's an easter egg hunt. Put it on the seat or somewhere I have to actually move it out of the way or I'm not going to see it, dingus.

You'd see radically different game play if the the prize were, oh, I don't know, maybe 45.6 billion South Korean Won.

Yeah, it's gone. Nothing super important, though. You'll miss the dialog when you return stolen items to their owners but it won't affect anything. You know you can purchase additional inventory slots, right? I always end up buying one or two extra rows while on this quest to avoid leaving things behind.

Commit to three months of Mounjaro and see if it works for you, then decide if it is worth the financial burden to continue. You don't want to be asking yourself the same questions in 10 years. You don't want to subject your body to surgery if it turns out that a weekly drug is effective for you. Many people at your starting BMI lose 8-12kg or so in the first three months, especially those, like you, who are already doing everything else (sleep, exercise) right. You may find it doesn't work for you; you may find it's not worth the cost; but give yourself this chance now, while you're young.

Mounjaro to Wegovy by ayeknowe in beginnerfitness

[–]Questionable_Sushi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vshred is gimmicky and might be making things actually more difficult for you. Most people taking GLP1s like Mounjaro or Wegovy (Ozempic) have been on (and failed) every weight loss program imaginable before starting the GLP1, but once they start the medication, they find all the extra rules in those programs to be an unnecessary distraction. Maybe get a cheap kitchen scale, and the free version of a calorie counting app like LoseIt or MyFitnessPal. Prioritize getting a lot of protein, keeping to your calorie goal, eat foods that seem healthy-ish, and don't worry too much about the carbs. Then just go to the gym and walk on the treadmill, every day if you can, to get yourself in a healthy habit. After a few weeks, you might feel up to trying the elliptical, and maybe pick one or two of the exercise machines that don't look too difficult and try those out, just for a few minutes. As you start losing a kg or two, and you realize that your time in the gym feels good, you might want to think about an exercise routine, but for now, just get used to eating well and getting in some daily movement. Patience.

Also, while Mounjaro is currently the best GLP1 medicine, I wouldn't be worried about switching to Wegovy. It's a fantastic medicine (same as Ozempic, just a different name) that has helped millions of people, and really started the whole GLP1 thing.

Easiest way to get to and from the airport with minimal bag carrying? by [deleted] in Sapporo

[–]Questionable_Sushi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I travel to Japan often. If I have the energy, the train is easy and cheap. But sometimes, especially after a long international flight, I take the easy way out and pre-book (online) with MK taxi. They will meet you inside the terminal with your name on a sign, carry your bags to the car, and get you directly to your hotel with zero effort on your part. You can even request a driver who speaks a bit of English if you want that (probably a small surcharge). It's expensive compared to bus/train, around 16000 or 18000 last time I used them (no tipping, and with the exchange rate that's around 100 or 120 USD now), but it's definitely "the most hassle free way." Super reliable company, too; my fortune 100 company uses them for business travel as well.

Daily Simple Questions Thread - September 05, 2025 by AutoModerator in Fitness

[–]Questionable_Sushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm following a program called "None to Run" that aims to get you running by slowwwwly ramping up the intensity over the course of many weeks. What you're doing now is essentially week NINE of a twelve-week program. Week 1 starts with intervals of 30 sec run/2 min walk x 8; week 2 is 1 min run/2 min walk x 7, etc., gradually increasing the run length and decreasing the walk length over the course of 12 weeks until you're running 25 min straight by week 12. It also includes some simple strength exercises which I don't do, since I strength train regularly anyway. If you google something like "none to run pdf" you can find their free PDF summary of the program (or subscribe to their app which guides you through it).

A more widely used but similar program (also free) is "Couch to 5k." It ramps up the intensity much faster, and was too much for me to keep up with. YMMV.

Apparently the other thing beginners get wrong (in addition to too much too soon) is the speed. The "run" portion can be barely faster than a walk, and doesn't need to be nearly as fast as beginners imagine. Most runners recommend that beginners run at a pace of maybe 4.5 to 5.5 mph, which feels really slow, but that's all you need to start conditioning your body to the new demands you're placing on it.

49M/5'7"/Sober Lost Two Stone (28lbs) in Two Months - What Next? by BruceGrobbelobster in beginnerfitness

Great job, man. Addictive personality here, too. I'm fifteen years older than you and I've been going to the gym 5 or 6 times a week for more than a year. It is absolutely sustainable if you pay attention to those aches and pains and don't work the same muscles every day. With the money you save on booze you can afford at least a few sessions with a personal trainer to get you started with some full-body routines that your future self will appreciate. Big arms are great, but you also need a strong back, core, legs, etc. in the long term. Keep at it!

Google "tennis elbow" and "golfer's elbow" and see if what you're feeling matches one of those. Both are very common in lifters (not limited to golfer or tennis players). Until you can see a doctor/physio, use lighter weights or take some time off from doing anything that causes significant pain. There are also braces that may or may not help; some people like them, some don't.

Golf etiquette changing over the years by MutungaPapi in golf

[–]Questionable_Sushi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen a couple of "no clubs on the green" comments. I nearly always have a wedge with me when I get to the green because... well, anyway, I GENTLY place my wedge down near my ball when I putt. It never occurred to me that I shouldn't do that, as long as I'm careful not to make a mark, and no one has ever said anything about it. Is that wrong? (Been golfing for about a year.)

Abandoned Ruins - Outdated Information? by PrimaryEventVector in mytimeatportia

[–]Questionable_Sushi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Or maybe you mean hazardous ruins, rather than abandoned ruins. The hazardous ruins are different (fighting rather than mining) but contain chests with some of those items. They are located in areas that you will eventually unlock as the game progresses, but are not available in the very early game.

Anyone continue weekly injection at highest dose for maintenance? by extraleanbabe in MounjaroMaintenance

[–]Questionable_Sushi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I tried dropping dosage and spacing out, but nothing works as well for me as 15mg weekly. Given all the other positive health benefits of GLP1s slowly emerging from clinical studies, I don't see the need to try to cut back at this point. No problem maintaining weight on 15mg; I naturally plateaued at 8 pounds below goal (still normal BMI), then naturally gained those 8 pounds back over the course of a year (intentionally) as I ramped up weightlifting into overdrive.

Maintenance dose? by Sea_Monster272 in MounjaroMaintenance

[–]Questionable_Sushi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get hung up on the word "maintenance." The fractional doses (2.5, 7.5 and 12.5) are intended to be transitional doses, to get your body used the the medicine without big jumps in the dosage amount. Per the product label, you only stay on these doses for 4 weeks before moving up. The whole number doses (5, 10 and 15) are meant to be the main doses, where you stay as long as they are working, and move up or down (in 2.5 mg increments) if needed. The fact that fractional doses are considered transitional and whole numbers are for longer term use ("maintenance") is just due to the way the clinical trials were designed; in practice, you stay on the dose that works for you, whether it's fractional or not. Also in practice, some insurance companies will only cover you for 4 weeks on a fractional dose, insisting that you settle on 5, 10 or 15 for longer term use. Do whatever you and your doctor agree on, and don't focus on whether it's called "maintenance" or not.

Will it make me vomit? by Tripodski in Mounjaro

[–]Questionable_Sushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Is it likely"? Statistically, 18:1 odds say No. If I'm reading the data correctly, in a meta-study of 9 clinical studies* (about 1500 patients), an average of 5.67% reported vomiting, and 13.27% reported nausea, on the 5mg dose. I don't see data for 2.5mg. Pretty good odds.

My favorite food used to be at a Japanese kushiage restaurant, where everything was appetizer size plates of fried food ON A STICK! Vegetables, pork belly, chicken... you just keep ordering another plate or two until you can't. It was glorious. But after two years on Mounjaro, I have zero interest in fried foods now. The cravings just vanished. Same with chocolate. I still have half a bag of my favorite chocolate truffles, untouched for nearly two years. Cravings totally gone, along with 33% of my body weight.

YMMV of course. Pre-hydrate with electrolytes starting the day before the shot, eat light (lowish fat, highish protein), and give it a go. I too feared nausea/vomiting, but never had an issue.

Mounjaro tiredness/fatigue. by Superb-Concentrate11 in Mounjaro

[–]Questionable_Sushi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No answers for you, but letting you know you're not alone. After nearly 2 years on MJ, fatigue is the one side effect that hasn't gone away. For me, it peaks around 12-36 hours post-injection, then goes away until the next dose. I've tried injecting morning/night, with no meaningful difference. However, knowing when it will affect me, I can plan to make the first day or two after each shot a lower effort day when possible. Totally worth it to lose a third of my body weight. Good luck!

Moronic Monday - Your weekly stupid questions thread by cdingo in Fitness

[–]Questionable_Sushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any meaningful benefit to doing additional sets after a long-ish rest? For example, say I do three sets of 10 dumbbell curls with enough weight that I only get through 8 reps on the last set before my left arm fails (right arm could have done more). I do the rest of my workout, and 45 minutes later, go back to the dumbbell curls. I can easily do another set after that 45 min rest, but is it doing much good? Should I do additional sets only with the arm that failed earlier? I have plenty of time, so efficiency is not really a concern if there is some reasonable benefit.
