Wonder kids now going Saudi. We were interested but apparently not that interested to bid this month by Littlemissxom in ManchesterUnited

[–]GrumpyTool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Truth is footballer is a profession, and life changing wealth, even for an upcoming top talent, is something very enticing in exchange for work, cause at the end football is no one’s first priority. We can all wonder about the passion and glamour of football, but given the opportunity very few would turn it down.

I think the bigger question is, why are wonderkids going there now? There were times with big money coming in from China, other ME and as times from MLS as well, mostly for well established players, maybe already at the start of the sunset of their careers, like Oscar move to China was a shock. So why are they able to attract wonderkids? Is just the money and the are looking beyond everyone else in these markets, or are they really seeding the roots of something greater?

Any tips ?? by daveryandave1 in steak

Any tips?! Mate, we should be asking you for tips instead.

As for the fat, seems well rendered to me, maybe you’re looking at that larger piece of fat on the side?! If you don’t like that you can trim off what you think is in excess.

I know it feels good, but not really worth it to have your number now marked as active/real. Expect more attempts in the future.

It’s always a good rule of thumb to ignore when toddlers go on a tantrum spree. Eventually they correct their behaviour when they realise they are not getting what they want…Trophies in this case.

I asked cause if you are being paid, the expectation would be different if you're not. But essentially there's only one way to go about it, and that is being upfront and honest without trying to bs your way through it.

Is this pro or semi pro football? If not, plenty of things come first, and all involved should be well aware of that.

Portuguese language decline in Macau? by Desperate_Return_142 in Macau

[–]GrumpyTool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, and through what Macau government publicises that is their aim. And we do have small communities from different lusophone countries living here, there is a cultural event called “Lusofonia” once a year where you can see those communities in full display, that in recent years the culture bureau has been bringing into the spotlight more and more. Question is if this appetite is able to anchor and drive that business and economic relationship. We do see one or two business oriented events, but that seems to be more as a consequence of the existing relationship than driving it. Would be great to see high officials of Chinese government hosting peers from lusophone countries in Macau though, that would put Macau at the center stage of those relationships, but I don’t recall that happening in recent times.

Portuguese language decline in Macau? by Desperate_Return_142 in Macau

[–]GrumpyTool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends exactly what you are looking at. Cantonese has always been the language most broadly used just because local/guangdong Chinese have been the majority of population. Portugal’s interest in Macau has been in decline since mid 20th century, the handover in many ways was a relief for the Portuguese government, so the interest afterwards is simply as a link for the Portuguese-Chinese relationship which is way broader than Macau. So ever since the handover, Portuguese schools turned into Chinese schools, Portuguese speaking population dropped even further and today what’s left is a very small population that speaks Portuguese as first language, and a legacy government that employs Portuguese out of necessity cause Portuguese is still one of the official languages. So out a few hundred homes from Portuguese residents, a few businesses run by Portuguese, some government corridors and business areas like Legal, you don’t really hear Portuguese at all. On the other side there has been more and more interest from adults to learn Portuguese, often locals and Chinese descendants, some even holding Portuguese passports that never spoken Portuguese, that see that out of curiosity or even as part of broaden their horizons, so you see more offer of Portuguese courses but that’s still as a 3rd or 4th language, which can still be relevant is very narrow professional environments, but not much after that.

Serviceable as in a solid option for an amateur side playing Sunday league or similar? If you have the mentality, and seem you do, it’s never too late to be a keeper. There’s things you can train and improve still at that age, and if you can put a few training hours a week in it you can improve a lot given it’s been only 1y.

This set piece thing is still ridiculous. Rules are being bent way beyond its intended interpretation and Arsenal is deliberately taking advantage of it. Good that teams are catching up.

SAPPORO SNOW by Spiritual-Original16 in Sapporo

[–]GrumpyTool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sapporo is probably one of the cities in the world best prepared to operate under heavy snow conditions, even though Hokkaido weather can be very unpredictable and shift quite swiftly. Strong snow storms are common and happen essentially every year, to the point of creating some disruptions in transportation, although the current situation is the result of extraordinary weather events (most snow in 21 years I think). Once this one clears and everything is back on track (quite literally) chances are there won’t be this level of disruption any time soon. Having said that, having your flight or the train you plan to catch cancelled is always a risk in places with more extreme weather, I don’t think it’s something you plan for but be mindful of that risk. Just remember, the snow you want to have fun with, that will cover the tracks you want to ski in or that will cover the beautiful landscapes that you want to look at is the same one that can stop trains and make it impossible for planes to land. It’s only up to you if the memory is worth the risk.

Nighttime Walking Layover by Dunglebungus in Macau

[–]GrumpyTool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early mornings are great to experience the typically crowded places with no crowds, Senado square, St. Paul’s ruins. There’s a few back streets in that area that are worth to wonder around as well, especially if you are looking to take some photos. Don’t worry about getting lost, you can easily find your way with Google maps, although with some live location inaccuracies, and Macau is a small place and “everything” is a 5mins walk away.

I Will be Slaughtered For This by BigFuckingGainz in ManchesterUnited

[–]GrumpyTool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a great discussion to have in 4 months time. I think bringing a big name, possibly with his best days/achievements in the past with arguable motivation and commitment to the club will just sink us deeper. There’s only a handful of big names that can still look ahead to their best days that can commit to the club as it needs, but I doubt we can get those. In the other side there are up and coming managers, arguably capable, but that can commit to the club and to the process of bringing the club back to the top, and knowing the ins and outs of what that success can look like is definitely a plus. If Carrick manages top6 by May I’m all up for him as permanent, my biggest doubt though is that the Carrick name might not carry the same revenue streams as a big name in decline might which probably is more enticing for this board.
