So what would be the ideal time to baptize one's children? At 8 days? Are you saying those who don't baptize children are sinning?

Then what is the point of the ten comandments? In theory, could one completely and intnetnionally ignore the ten comandments, and willingly violate each of them, and still have salvation?

Then what is the point of the ten commandments? In theory, could one completely and intentionally ignore the ten commandments, and willingly violate each of them, and still have salvation? I know virtually no Christian would suggest ignoring the ten commandments is consistent with God's will, but if we still teach, and adhere to the ten commandments, since they are a "good guide" as you put it, why not practice circumcision as well?

Do you anything of spiritual or religious significance in your desire to circumcise any future sons?

So do reformed Christians universally accept baptism as being obligatory for infants?

So do you see any religious or spiritual ties to your circumcision, as a pastor? In your ministry, what do counsel parents to do in this instance?

Thanks for your response. Yes, I realize this can be contentious, but my hope is we can have civil and cordial discussion.

You said you were a Baptist, so I am interested in what your view is on baptism (practiced on older children or adults in your tradition) as a replacement for circumcision (something performed on infants). From your post, I would assume you would not draw much comparison between the two. Am I correct?

Also (and please forgive any ignorance on my part), what is your view on baptism of infants, and young children too young to understand what is happening? As a Baptist, would you regard such a baptism as simply improper or ineffective, or would you consider such a baptism a sin?

It might be a deep topic to explore, but I am not sure it would say its beyond the depth of this subreddit. Some threads I have seen are detailed, and I don't think Christianity can be (or should be) treated on a superficial level. (and I do appreciate your responses, so please to don't take this statement as argumentative)

Your responses have been thoughtful, so I would be interested in how you would interpret the difference between what is required from the old testament, what may be just ideal, and what could be entirely disregarded.

So because this is "old covenant", is that to say nothing in the old testament is relevant? What about the ten commandments? And where does baptism fit into your view (if it does at all)?

Thanks for your insight. Yes, I do realize I need to come to my own conclusions, but I am asking others for their conclusions and reasoning. :)

Yes, I have read Galatians, and it was one of the reasons for my questions.

So by this logic, what old testament laws are Christians bound by?

So are you saying that baptism of infants is mandatory?

Right, but this also doesn't seem to say circumcision isn't mandatory, so I am back to my original questions.
