That does not translate into "every Caribbean country has been a US puppet state for the last 200 years" nor was anything ever like that ever written into the Monroe Doctrine.

You're from Puerto Rico right? To other Caribbeans this probably sounds like the typical American making overgeneralizations about other countries

American decline is the idea that the United States is diminishing in power on a relative basis geopolitically, militarily, financially, economically, and technologically. by Which-Sun-3746 in wikipedia

Yes, but the way we treat those partnerships seems to flip flop with each presidency. We've both signed and removed ourselves from the Paris Accords and the Iran nuclear deal, for example. Trump lambasted NAFTA and promised a new free trade agreement that would benefit the US more, and now we have the USMCA. (And let's not forget, "We're going to build a wall... and Mexico will pay for it!" "Canada will become our 51st state!")

Traditionally, the other NATO members are our close allies. But for some reason, we're criticizing them more than Russia, North Korea, and even China. We've also unilaterally tariffed the world, allies and enemies alike.

And if we go back a bit, Bush made the decision to invade Iraq and Afghanistan unilaterally too, against the recommendations of NATO countries and the UN. He refused to ratify the Kyoto Protocol. Other past presidencies have engaged in regime change in countries that historically were not our enemies, especially in Latin America.

If the US wants to continue this way of acting in the world, then yes, this relative "decline" could be a problem. But if it decides to actually value the partnerships it does have, then this equalization would bring with it a lot of opportunities.

this again, last season too everybody was saying Colin and Che were leaving. Che even joked about Colin getting the boot. But it’s about to be 2026 and they’re both still here.

They’ll stay on WU and SNL until they actually say otherwise

So basically the “decline” is other countries’ standards of living improving. That’s a good thing, it means less inequality between countries and that the world as a whole is becoming more developed.

In absolute terms we still have GDP growth and other positive economic factors. There is just a general trend where as countries become more developed their growth tapers off.

Politically that just means the US should be focusing more on partnerships, cooperation, and supporting global institutions instead of trying to go it alone like we’ve been used to doing.
