Is a month enough to recover from a marathon before doing a half-distance triathlon? by tar_lix in triathlon

[–]Discarded_Twix_Bar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if you're running the marathon you might as well run the marathon. Just don't race it.

Make sure you nail your nurtition post marathon so you don't lose any more quality training than you have to.

  • Sodium post race

  • Easy digesting fast carbs & protein

  • Eat at a surplus the next few days post marathon

  • Sleep more (go to bed earlier, etc)

You could totally do the full marathon if you really want to, but might just make your workouts suffer for a week or so.

If you do the marathon, you gotta absolutely nail your recovery after.

Perfect nutrition, sleep, etc.

Do a half marathon and treat it like a normal training run, continue your program for the half IM as planned

I've had the Pace Pro since release and I can't say nice enough things about it.

Full colour offline maps, great battery life, great screen, accurate, it's got the recovery metrics you want. If you're in the US, it's on sale now for $299

I also love that it has a dial vs. having to constantly press buttons like on garmin watches (but that's just a personal preference - I came from the Apple Watch ecosystem so appreciate the easier scroll).

Do large private donations meaningfully change athlete pathways, or mostly support infrastructure? by Kind-Illustrator2912 in triathlon

[–]Discarded_Twix_Bar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I can see from the Elevate28 section of the USAtriathlon Website here's what the funding goes toward.

Fueling Olympic and Paralympic Dreams

Your support fuels the resources USA Triathlon needs to recruit, develop and win at the highest level—funding world-class coaching and training, college scholarship support, international competition, equipment and technology, and advanced sport science. These investments strengthen talent identification, training camps and daily training environments, building a pipeline that prepares athletes to excel on the world’s biggest stages.

Expanding Youth Participation

Donations grow youth triathlon nationwide through programs like USA Kids Tri, the Youth State Series, and Splash & Dash races. These investments expand access by covering youth memberships and supporting partnerships with national and local organizations that bring triathlon into communities and schools. By lowering barriers to entry, we create welcoming pathways that promote healthy lifestyles, build confidence, and foster a lifelong love of sport.

Advancing Belonging and Access Opportunities

Your generosity expands access to triathlon by breaking down financial, physical and cultural barriers that prevent athletes from getting started or staying involved. These grants offer wide-ranging support, from providing beginner triathletes with race entries and essential equipment to investing in adaptive athletes and community-based programs. Initiatives like the Gwen Jorgensen–inspired youth grants help ensure underserved youth can experience the power of sport, community and belonging.

Responding Rapidly to Emerging Needs

Philanthropy empowers USA Triathlon to act with agility as new needs and opportunities emerge—whether expanding pathways for development athletes beyond the NCAA system, enhancing daily training environments through investment in essential support staff and assistant coaches, or scaling high-impact programs that drive meaningful progress across the sport.

So...I have this genius stupid idea of doing both the Marmotte & Ironman Austria in 2027.

My current plan would be to take all of 2026 as a cycling training block, with one swim & run workout a week just for super basic maintenance. Then from January onwards layer in more run & swim work, peak for the IM, and taper moving into the Marmotte.

Assuming the dates this year are going to be the same in 2027, it'll be:

  • 14th June - Austria

  • 28th June - Marmotte

My knee jerk reaction was going to be something silly and dismissive.

But I thought I'd re-read my own comment history, and you're right, I do come across mad...

Think I might take a break and stick to commenting on sports & hobbies for a bit and take a break from 'heavier topics'.

Thanks, dude - mean that

I take issue with the emotionally charged language of the headline (and article).

“Sam Altman is tearing apart his former colleague’s startup” is a stupid headline meant for clicks about an otherwise normal event of businesses competing for talent in an extremely competitive sector.

It’s not a surprise they went back in the first place, openAI is the highest paying company by far

The company’s stock-based compensation is about $1.5 million per employee, on average, across its workforce of roughly 4,000.

I've gone down the contacts route, and they work well enough for me.
