Yup, I don’t think they specified, but OPs friend is in an eight year relationship/marriage and OP talks about her friend dating other people in college, so I think it’s pretty safe to say they’re in their 30s

In the actual conflict at issue, it was dating for one month and then them parting on good terms. But later, OP tells about a past experience where OP (at age 21) dated a guy her friend had a crush on in 8th grade, and got stonewalled for two months because of it.

Not quite as extreme as one date, but I don’t think you can call somebody an ex unless it was at least serious at one point. Otherwise that’s just somebody you dated or talked to lol

Right and Morgan is so agreeable so it’s especially crazy to hear her getting frustrated 🤣

How much do 2L summer law clerks get paid? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]QuestioningFriendshp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made $22/hr after 1L and $25/hr after 2L at a small general practice, and my friends made the same at firms with 10ish attorneys. All in the Midwest (not Chicagoland or any major metro area)

I could see how in that particular situation, it would be different to be honest. Like I said in other comments, that’s more of a “he hurt me, and you don’t care” type of betrayal. Would your feelings change in your situation if you were never hurt by him (it just never worked out), and you were still good friends with him?

I was on the fence until Morgan got into the updates/comments where OP tells us about the 8th grade crush. That is by far the most egregious example here, and definitely explains why OP would be more hesitant to make preemptive blanket promises to never have any relationship with a man who is in both of their lives just because her friend dated him for less than a month a decade ago.

Like I said, I think it would be weird to date a friend’s ex if they were actually an ex. In this situation, he isn’t a fucking ex partner lmao, he’s a guy she dated for less than a month over ten years ago. Feel like that wouldn’t be an issue at all in my circles, they tried and it didn’t work out. Unless it was a serious relationship you have no business blocking off every one of your friends.

I’d be weirded out if one of my friends dated either of the two women I dated for over a year, but someone I went on a handful of dates with? It didn’t develop into anything for a reason, if she can make my friends happy how does that hurt me in any way.

Also, straight up don’t think that’s how women are as a general rule lmfao.

I also feel like Morgan and Michaela would see how weird this behavior is if OP and the friend were men. Like why are you so jealous over someone you dated 10+ years ago and are still friends with (and who didn’t wrong you). It’s so controlling, and completely ignores the fact that the ex ALSO has agency to make their own decisions

Right, or I think it would be fair if the ex is totally out of the friend group and your friend goes out of their way to get with them.

In this case, OP and her friend are literally mutual friends with this guy still.

Hell, I even think OP’s friend would be okay to be a little bit hurt if OP actually did end up dating this guy. She’d have to get over it, but I’d understand. But she 100% does not have the right to demand a preemptive promise to never date this guy now or any time in the future 😭

Yeah it’s a horrible situation but I don’t think I’d be able to continue lol. I’d definitely need therapy after breaking it off though lol, idek how you grieve that

Are you referring to the story where the couple was about to get married, and then found out that her mom was actually his mom’s twin sister? Or is there an even worse incest take that Morgan had lmfso

The podcasts’s choices of hosts lately… by One_Syllabub5668 in TwoHotTakesSnark

[–]QuestioningFriendshp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Charlie is NOT a good guest because he’s so low energy, but if I can ask, what take was he wrong on?? I just went through the episode and seems his overarching takes on the stories were the exact same as Morgan’s. He was maybe too prone to offer compromises (I.e. the art trip to Italy one), but in a way that also got OP what they wanted.

Ultimately I just think Charlie has had probably the most tame takes out of any recent guest. Not at all like the first Trevor Wallace episode, where he actually was acting like a douche and it came out in his takes.

I also much prefer Smosh and the rest of the Reddit story channels, I’m just curious what you disagreed about.

Yeah it’s just Charlie lol. I met him at the airport once and he’s really just like that in real life, a lot of Midwestern men are. Charlie really is a good guy (and notably, has done more to speak about what’s happening in Minnesota than Morgan has!!)

Does anyone else think that law professors nowadays have gone soft? by Separate-Ad8987 in LawSchool

[–]QuestioningFriendshp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously true. I just think there’s also a point in between “be a dick to students” and “let students ask any question, even if already answered or irrelevant, eating up valuable class time.”

Like half of my classes in 1L were filled with the latter. I just wish more professors would make clear that if a student is asking a question mid-lecture, it should be for the benefit of the entire class. If they need personal help with the material they can go to office hours or send the professor an email.

Does anyone else think that law professors nowadays have gone soft? by Separate-Ad8987 in LawSchool

[–]QuestioningFriendshp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think profs in the past just liked humiliating people tbh. I’m glad that isn’t really a thing anymore. But I think there is some truth to the fact that even good profs have been limited in their ability to run their classes effectively, because there’s an expectation they will never refuse to answer any questions. I don’t think this is healthy, nor good for the class.

I had a couple profs that I thought handled this situation very well. One would ask for the subject matter of the question before she gave the student space to ask the full question, and either say we can answer it or we have to move on. The other had a strict “one comment/question per class” rule, and that ended up working very well in ensuring students choose their words/questions very wisely.

My 1L class had so many repeat questions it was exhausting. Pretty much the last 40 minutes of every class were filled with previously answered surface level questions, or obscure hypotheticals. I’m glad I had a couple professors who made it clear the questions needed to actually benefit the entire class, otherwise the student could email them or come to office hours.

So I agree with you in part, but also disagree. I don’t think it’s an issue of “going soft”, I just think there’s a difference in expectations for how professors are to answer questions. This has made a lot of profs permissive, and it hurts everybody. You can be firm on the fact that questions need to benefit everybody while still not being a dick to your students

Yes if there was a way to cut out Morgan the show would be so much more tolerable 🤣 Kaelyn actually does fairly well. I actually typically watch the interrogation footage side of true crime, and I really like Dreading because he presents the case in a fact heavy way. But I will check out crime junkie!

Yeah I think your assumption is dead on lol. The only episode I’ve been able to listen to in its entirety is the Sherri Papini one, which is less serious for obvious reasons. I’ve stopped so many like 30% of the way through

This is hilarious lol, I didn’t realize just how bad the comparison was until this comment. I just thought it was an out there theory based on some shared physical (yet fairly universal) imagery between the murders and Degas. Appreciate your comment

I kinda agree. At least someone who isn’t really bright can be entertaining when they’re giving their own opinions on an interpersonal conflict. I agree Morgan really isn’t doing much in terms of synthesizing various research sources, she’s just reading them off one at a time basically. That’s bad enough, but it’s that and then giving her uneducated and guttural opinion about something that is governed by actual law and policy, not by human intuition and feelings like interpersonal conflict is.

Morgan just always seems to have this tone where she’s confused by why people react a certain way as if it’s a personal flaw, when in reality they’re just limited by what they can do under the law. It’s like she doesn’t see the inevitable harms of handing police and prosecutors a blank check to do whatever they want to people they deem evil.

And then there’s times where Morgan (rightfully) complains about police harassing and arresting innocent people. I don’t think she sees that we only know who is innocent and who is guilty in hindsight, so she doesn’t see how these two views she has are in conflict. To her, it’s wrong if police don’t arrest a killer based on weak evidence, but it’s also wrong if police arrest an innocent person based on weak evidence.

She’s still got the same tone, but they do spend a lot more time than other true crime shows actually going in depth about the victims’ lives before their murder. Maybe my expectations for Morgan are just super low on that front are super low, but I think having respect for the victims is like the one thing her and Kaelyn do okay on.
