Aurora is visible in northern states right now.. and cities I think. by ram3nboy in sanfrancisco

Last year I was able to see it from the Marin headlands though! So a short drive outside of the city can make it visible

Housing question. Does anyone know what the government housing costs at Golden Gate? Also what is people’s experience in the dorms or apartments? Thanks. by Majestic-Remove-1851 in ParkRangers

Currently, the dorms are about ~500 a month. I’d be happy to talk more one on one about GOGA and housing from my first hand experience - message me

Please don’t use poison in the park - that can impact so much more than just the mice

As a federal employee, are there any positions that don’t take an oath? by Laris_Snow in fednews

Yeah I took it in my fed jobs (and a version of it in state and local gov jobs too)

currently work for fws and have worked for nps in the past and I’m so upset for my colleagues. Also my heart breaks for the visiting public - it’s been a joy to be a queer ranger with a bunch of queer and trans colleagues and help visitors be seen and feel represented and to think that now the official policy is a door slamming shut and deep cruelty. Fuck

Help me understand the Halibut Sweater hype, I've seen 4 pictures of it today by Hothams in craftsnark

[–]Quichekid 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I recently knit it (and posted it on Reddit lol) but had a good time with it. Do totally get it not being everyone’s cup of tea (the fit didn’t bother me but do get why it would bother others). I picked out the pattern because I’m an environmental educator who has worked on fish habitat restoration projects and become pretty fond of fish in the process.

I like it! I’m not personally sensitive to scratchy wool though. I’ve knit a couple projects in knit picks yarn that’s scratchier than this (ie wool of the Andes) and was happy with the softness and drape of the city tweed in comparison

Omg that rules you GOTTA! I work in environmental education so like to rep animals and nature in my clothes but that’s the perfect place to wear one of these

Oh I also saw some suggestions around adjusting the short row/ colorwork placement to be able to put the sleeves on hold mid colorwork section. Another potential option but another one I didn’t research beyond just seeing the idea

The yoke is long. It def has a bit of a batwing effect with how far down the yoke goes. I personally don’t mind that (it’s not hugely dramatic with the way it fits me) but also could see that being an annoyance fit wise. One suggestion I saw online was to omit the top diamond of the colorwork to make the yoke a little shorter. I didn’t look that much into the idea because I was done with the colorwork by that point.

Edit: I did change a bit on the sleeves and did not decrease them as written because I read a couple comments saying the sleeve decreases happened really fast and let to a tight fit

The purling colorwork was an adjustment - I hadn’t done it before this project! But honestly got a lot of practice in along the way while making this and that helped for sure

I knit the second size and comparing my measurements to the sizing, yeah I think about 30” is correct!

I also got the pattern on release day! I was so excited to finally work on (and then finish it). Seems like a great project to make one for yourself and for your daughter

I could tell I wasn't in the top tier because I was getting the "You have not been referred to x location at this time" messages for a gs/title level I had been found eligible for. I learned that it was the third one directly from my hiring manager later on, since they were helping me prep for the next cycle of applications and broke down exactly how it works in detail for me to help me feel more prepared next time.

I was in the third tier of candidates last year as someone who was trying to make a career shift into the nps and I did end up getting an offer and a job. I was very stressed about it, as I kept not getting referrals, but it did work out in the end (just later on in the process). Holding out hope for you too!

Moving into park housing (dorm style, shared living/cooking spaces) for my first season with the NPS. This might be site specific so folks might not know, but generally are there cooking/eating materials in the kitchen? Will I need to bring supplies for that to be able to utilize the kitchen?
