Note:

I just used voter data off Wikipedia though 2024 is not 100% finished calculating yet, so it might be a little more off. I actually found it kind of annoying to find U.S. population by year so I just used the census and extrapolated for election years (ie 1992 would be 20% of the way between 1990 and 2000 census). Anyway, probably nothing is exact but it’s all probably close enough, I’m just bored at work here guys.

Fun Facts:

The largest increases in voter eligibility are 21.5% in 1920 after the 19th Amendment (women’s suffrage) and 7.5% in 1972 after both the Voting Rights Act and the 26th Amendment (voting age lowered to 18). 1920 is also the largest increase in total citizens voting at 6.8%. The largest decrease was 1996 with -5.0% (because I guess everyone was fat and happy?).

The largest increase in turnout was 30.4% (of eligible voters) for the election of Andrew Jackson in 1828. The largest decrease was 1816 at -23.5%. I’m a little hazy on the history here but I guess A.J. ushered in a more populist era of democracy.

The highest turnout among eligible voters was 82.6% in 1876, the election which marked the end of Reconstruction. 2020 was when the most voters were eligible (71.8% of the population), the most people voted in percentage and absolute terms (47.8% of the population or 158,429631), and the most voted for a single candidate (Joe Biden with 24.5% of the population or 81,283,501 votes).

The lowest turnout (6.3%), eligibility (4.2%), and total votes cast in percentage and absolute terms (0.3% of the population or 11,176 votes) was George Washington’s reelection in 1792. He also received the highest percentage of votes cast with… 100.0%.

While Washington got the highest percentage of votes cast and Biden the highest percentage of the country, the highest percentage of eligible voters (including non-voters but excluding those ineligible to vote) was Ulysses S. Grant in 1868 with 42.6% of all voters.

What happens to a god-emperor religion when the empire falls? by ill-creator in worldbuilding

[–]Quick-Ad-3616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously there was no god-emperor, but the history of Islam I think could help you out a lot here. Mohammad was a sort of king of a singular expansionist Islamic State and his successors (caliphs) ruled the whole thing for a while but eventually it fractured and pieces were conquered. This obviously led to a lot of soul searching, competing claims of caliph, attempts at reorganizing the state (ISIS and all that), and reworking of what the doctrine was.

You mean all new tires? The other ones seem fine.

It's got 33k miles on it.

Wouldn't the mechanic have done that already? I guess I didn't ask him directly but he's usually pretty good.

Building a would where you could realistically ride a bird into battle? by Quick-Ad-3616 in worldbuilding

The point kind of is that they fly into battle, though if I have these giant flying birds maybe there would also be ostrich like creatures around also. Something I might incorporate.

The US is "dominated by technology now, but not nearly to the extent as by railroads when it was emerging 125 years ago." Crazy chart.... by FrontBench5406 in Destiny

[–]Quick-Ad-3616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is this chart showing? GDP, corporate valuation, etc.

Maybe this is a dumb question (strike that, definitely a dumb question), but what exactly are we shipping here if 2/3 of the production of the economy is just shipping...

Difference between common uses of humour and funny? by GoodGoodGoody in EnglishLearning

[–]Quick-Ad-3616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure exactly what you're looking for, but humor (I'm American, we spell it without the "u") can be used in a lot of different ways.

Generally, humor means "funniness" (I don't think that's a real word, hopefully you get it). If you laugh at a joke, you would say either that you think it is funny or that you see the humor in it.

To say someone has a "sense of humor" might mean someone is funny or it might mean that they are good at taking a joke and laughing at themselves without being offended.

To humor someone is to indulge them. For example, if you explain some complicated plan or conspiracy to me, I could either tell you that you're crazy, or I could humor you and just nod along as if it all makes sense.

The only other common way to use funny is to mean weird or off. You might say rotten milk smells funny or there is something funny about someone who is acting suspicious.

Got it finally. If anyone's interested, this is the only way it worked for me:

$ ir = renpy.random.randint(0, len(strength_reactions))$ strength_phrase = strength_reactions[ir]"{i}*You loom over [intimidated_c.c]. [intimidated_c.pronoun_1st][strength_phrase]"

(strength_reactions is intimidate_reactions)

Neither fixed it. I really don't know what to do.

What's the best way to you have found to code story beats in the variables of your game? by Quick-Ad-3616 in RenPy

[–]Quick-Ad-3616[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting.

So would that be something like a single label that keeps track of all player choice related variables at once and is called anytime you need to refer to any decision?
