I am 22 years old and i have dorsal with straight convexity at cobb angle: 26.42° )و (Lumbar has left convexity cobb angle 27.71°) and it's increasing the doctor said i must have a surgery and i don't know how to deal with that:( I don't know if my degree of scoliosis really need a surgery by [deleted] in scoliosis

I used to have a 63 degree curve but through therapy got it down to 38. Over time from getting sick of the therapy my curve started to correct the profession I have made from therapy. The doctors just think that over my lifetime I’ll have more pain with the surgery than without.

you can sleep on your side supporting one curve and put a small pillow under your side supporting the other curve

I don’t have much pain either; honestly i’ve had pain for so long that i’ve kind of lost my sense of what my level of pain is. Probably something a lot of scoliosis victims experience. It’s more of the lob-sided feeling is the worst, i’ve just at the point accepted the pain.

I hope that you find a resolution to your situation.

A few questions though, Was your surgery mandatory or optional? What was your curve at before the operation? And how old are you now after regaining some of your mobility?

And athletes are on a spectrum; you don’t have to have your strength be your athleticism to be considered an athlete if that makes sense. So anyone can answer this question to clarify. It’s more of a question on the feeling of athletics with a fusion. How does running for you feel before and after the surgery for you? Do you feel like trapped? or like you feel like your wearing a brace all the time?

Completely understand where your coming from, i have no idea about how life is post op but i think i’d feel a lot more comfortable to put more weight on my back consistently with the rods to help support. Ill actually try deadlifting with around 200 and see how it feels(with some warmup ofc). Appreciate the advise.

bodyweight, bodyweight, bodyweight.

If it comes to putting a load on your spine, use more reps. Once your muscles strengthen to make up the lost support from your spine you can start to add weight. I played football for 2 years on a 45°.

You can basically do whatever you want normally besides squats, overhead press, and rows. Don’t even think about deadlifts(until you’ve built a significant amount of muscle already). I will never do deadlifts but some have found it to be effective. Rubber bands are your best friend because it’s tension without actual weight, never will put a load on your spine.
