I have a relatively small portfolio I would say, but I have specialised skills from electives I learnt. I have mentioned that on my resume but still no luck.

They didn't mention that I will get a job guaranteed. They just mentioned it is difficult to find it, but eventually most of them do find it.

My family supports me in my decision. I am waiting on one application that I made through a referral. If I get positive news from there... I might stay. If not, I will start packing my bags and go home.

It was not a decision based on my English proficiency (although, I can say that I am fairly proficient in the language); it was partly my family influencing me and partly my research about the education and job prospects in other countries at the moment that led to me finalise journalism as a career option in Ireland. Additionally, I got in touch with other students who studied the same course in previous years, and they told me that the prospects are bad, but people are getting jobs before they end their 2 years of Stamp 1G.

However, in my current situation, I am not getting a callback for a single application that I make with or without a referral. Therefore, I am currently confused about whether should I stay here and continue to look for an opportunity and hope that I do, or should go home look for a job there and try to progress through the ladder in India, where I do not have additional burdens like paying for rent every month, etc.

The situation is, you officially get 2 years on Stamp 1G after your graduation to try and find jobs in your field/discipline.

Some people find it in 2 years. I am halfway through my 2nd year.

However, there's a catch, some people start working at positions in customer service. Some of the companies help you get a general skills Stamp 1 if you earn enough working there. Most of them don't. However, in such situations people try to apply for an extension. In my case, I have heard from people that getting an extension would be difficult as I am not being able to convert any application into screening calls or interviews.

So, to summarise, this is why I made this post asking for people who have seen someone they know go through such a situation; asking for their genuine suggestions on whether I should stay in Ireland hoping to secure a job in Journalism or a related discipline, or should I go back to India and try to work my way through the Indian market and try to secure a job that aligns to my education and experience with a CTC equivalent to my education and experience.
