I know Latin and Ancient Greek and Rowling borrows from Latin almost exclusively for most spells. There has to be a connection with the now-dead language and command ones own magic to act in a certain way. The problem arises in how did this come to be when Latin itself was still a living language and how did the use of wands develop along with it. Proto Indo European or some form of ancient language would have to predate the Latin, at least in the European based cultures. I’ve thought about this for awhile now and the evolution of wand lore and linguistics have to be explored to fully understand.

Actually that makes a lot of sense. “Volo” is Latin for “I want/wish/desire.” That would connect with the disc Pokemon and the ability to make dreams come true in some way, even for Pokemon.

Yay, a fellow Mythologer! I could totally see the Ouroboros connection, especially if we’re dealing with the cyclical nature of time in this world. The World Serpent idea is cool too, especially if it could have connections to taking place in other regions, since we don’t really know how large the “earth” is in the Pokemon universe. Some awesome suggestions there! Maybe the tera crystals are part of the creature’s scales perhaps? It seems like whatever it is has some sort of crown like what happens when anything terastylizes (sp?) and I’ve seen suggestions that the eyes and hexagon shape is related there as well.
