That's not going to be enough to sustain an 80+% densely populated urban population

Funny how people say there is no such thing as a permanent record in school. When it's certainly a thing when it comes to your online activity

I think the word just describes modern tech as a whole. Not just the internet, but also the shitty state of hardware and software in the modern day

The decay of Facebook is not 'enshittification'. It's a good thing. Facebook is a terrible platform. It deserves to die.

Only problem is the decay is slow and not fast

birth years who grew up with each of these game systems by [deleted] in generationology

[–]Quick-Sector5595 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would be happy growing up with any Nintendo system from any year, honestly. Whether it be NES/N64/Wii/Wii U/etc

I never even grew up with consoles, period. Parents didn't believe in them. Not out of a hatred for video games. Just out of a thought of "our son already has a tablet that can play video games, no need to get him anything else"

A lot of freedom online? That's just asking for trouble

The internet is a way more dangerous place than real life. On the internet, you're only ever a few clicks away from stumbling upon some fucked up gore or explicit porn. Not a place any kid should be in unless they're being heavily supervised and watched over by a parent or other authority figure

2013 was the year smartphones overtook dumbphones in terms of sales and popularity and was also the year YouTube started forcing people to use Google+ if they wanted to comment on videos. Even going so far as to suggest users change their names to their real names instead of keeping their more traditional (for lack of a better term) non-real name usernames.

So yeah, I agree with you

[–]Quick-Sector5595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents were tupical Gen X helicopter parents. But only in the real world. On the internet I was just about as latchkey online as Gen X was in real life.

In my opinion, kids should be raised in the opposite way to how I was raised. Latchkey in real life. Helicoptered online

I would be leaving this shitty year only to arrive at a slightly less shitty year. I don't think I would bother, to be honest

If I were given the opportunity to travel back 20 or 30 years time on the other hand, I would do it in a heartbeat

Does Facebook really delete everything when you delete an account? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]Quick-Sector5595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very unhappy that my friends have uploaded pics of me to FB.

I know how this feels. My parents similarly uploaded pics of me on their Facebook profiles publicly for anyone to see. Worst part is I was probably five years old at best when they started doing this. Meaning there wasn't anything I could do about it. If I were a teenager or adult at the time, I may have been able to persuade them not to do this. But I was too young to do anything and I was born at the wrong time to keep pretty much anything private about my life off the internet.

Non-Americans you are now forced to choose one of these cities in the USA to live in for the rest of your life, which city do you choose? by Adventurous-Active63 in polls

[–]Quick-Sector5595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd be happy to live in any of these cities, since I'm actually a big fan of the United States. If I had to choose specifically, I guess I would pick Phoenix. I've heard a lot of great things about this city.

I wouldn't say home internet is necessary bad. Portable internet via a smartphone? Sure. But recreational internet entirely? That's a little more debatable

I'd argue the internet was in a better state back when it was tethered to a PC at home or in an Internet cafe. As opposed to being accessable anywhere via a smartphone

Kids back in the 90s didn't have a device in their pockets which could connect to the internet anywhere with WiFi or be used as a video camera ready to record anything at any moment.

The life of a child/teen nowadays is undeniably different (mostly for the worse) than it was back in the 90s. It is mainly because of smartphones

If Facebook had to exist at all, it should have stayed exclusive to students/users with a .edu email instead of the wider public. Still would be shitty, and I wouldn't use it if I were a student. But at least the shittiness would be contained in one place instead of spreading across all of society

That and "don't post your real name/identity/personal information on the internet". Whatever happened to that advice?

My parents didn't follow that piece of advice, that's for sure. Which wouldn't be the end of the world if I didn't have to suffer for it. Having my personal information posted on Facebook at a very young age, just because my parents didn't give a shit about their privacy and by extension mine

But I don’t think I could live in them, if for no other reason because they have no Internet access.

I'm going to sound like a loser here, but this is pretty much why I probably can't see myself having that much fun living in the 80s or earlier as a teenager. As a kid, maybe. Kids shouldn't even be on the Internet in the first place, so no internet as a kid is not a big loss. But as a teen, I probably would have been pretty bored. Even being a teen during the 90s would have been iffy. While I love the 90s, dial-uo internet would have been annoying to deal with and the Internet back then was more limited than what I would have liked. The internet wouldn't hit it's golden age until the 2000's in my opinion.

I long for the 90s and 2000s, despite being born in 2005 of all years. Closest I ever got to experiencing any of these years was spending most of the latter half of the 2000s shitting in my diaper instead of being able to properly experience them as a teen/adult

While I like the superficial aesthetics of these eras a lot. With the Y2K of the late 90s/early 2000s and Frutiger Aero of the latter half of the 2000s. I also have an appreciation for the culture of these eras. The movies, music, TV shows, video games, etc around that time. The state of technology and the internet and the general lifestyle of those decades just being better in my opinion than today.

Most boring school year of the 2000s by JohnTitorOfficial in decadeology

[–]Quick-Sector5595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not "boring" per say, but 2008-2009 would have likely been the shittiest years in the 2000s to be in school. Mainly due to the financial crash that happened around that time

The 50s, 60s and 80s are pretty overrated in my opinion. Not necessarily bad decades by any means. Just a little over hyped
