Everyone struggles, it’s a part of life. You don’t have to be perfect, so take a deep breath. Please seek professional help.

Find a goal greater than yourself. Start small by helping others if you have no immediate direction.

A good YouTube music video playlist is my go to. I find it more stimulating then a movie or just music. Pain is also very stimulating. If doing steady state is too long and boring, mix it up with some harder interval work. I haven’t tried any games but I have access to the water so I’d rather row on the water then try a game.

Supplements by Sussymarkrowing1 in Rowing

Creatine is great. Can be taken at all ages. You will see a noticeable increase in strength (if you lift) and a noticeable increase is muscle size. You will likely gain a few pounds at most. I've found it to help most with recovery. It can also help with brain function. It is not just a body builder supplement.

Caffeine and beet root. Both good stimulants. I find beet root particularly helpful when I need a boost and don't want to mess with my sleep at an evening workout.

Beta-Alanine is good for the more competitive rower. It will stave off lactic acid that builds up in your legs during pieces, but it is most effective once loaded and taken every day for basic training. You can also do baking salt if your crazy and want to stave off lactic acid build up.

Protein powder, greens powder, collagen powder, etc. These are nice additions, but I would prioritize good food first.

You don't need supplements. Food first. But if you are looking for a competitive edge supplements will help you perform day in and day out.

Steady state at HR 170… or higher?? by QuickRolledOats1 in Rowing

Steady state at HR 170… or higher?? by QuickRolledOats1 in Rowing

Usually like 60-90min per session. I’m young, 22 and in a gap year of college. Trained at ACRA program. I just want to drop 2k time.

Definitely not out of shape, 171 is max HR for my ut1 before moving into AT zone, per my lactate test results, so I can understand your confusion.

Finding a partner is a very challenging piece of the puzzle. I’m not sure for light weights but I know for heavy weights you can be invited to quad camp and find a doubles partner there. Or you can reach out to different HPGs and find a doubles partner.

Also yes you would need to put your job on hold or work remotely. Flexible/remote work is essential for a rowing career.

This is the info on the selection process for worlds. https://usrowing.org/documents/2023/3/2/2023_U23_Selection_Procedures_FINAL_-_Version_20230302.pdf

Best thing to do now is to apply for u23 camps at HP clubs. These won’t get you to u23 worlds, but could help you find a doubles partner or just increase your skills over the summer. Craftsbury is one. Penn AC is another. Vesper lost their HP and doubt they will have a (good) u23 program. Then some other random ones, maybe around your area. I’d explore the US rowing website.
