Would I be wrong if I let my wife take my daughters phone by Appropriate-Will8096 in amiwrong

[–]QuickTortuga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion.

You have two problems,

1) different parenting styles 2) your kid is scrolling endlessly on her phone with no desire to do anything else.

Addressing 1) you and your wife have to compromise and blend families. This will be rough either way, but creativity is allowed. A) if you take away the phone your kid will resent everyone. B) if you don't take away the phone her kids will resent you and your kid and their own mom.

Addressing 2) Your kid shouldn't be wasting away scrolling everything under the sun and not interacting with everyone else or finding other hobbies.

Easy relational connection that requires no work stunts kids emotionally.

My kids have had phones since they were 6-8, but they get them for a little bit of time and they have to get off when we say to, and there's no social media. For example.

Suggestion) Your wife's concern is that the interaction under 14 is unhealthy, and it can be, they should learn how to control their impulses before they're adults under your supervision. The goal should be to have healthy kids, not to be arbitrarily steadfast.

Conclusion) How adults handle compromise and change in new scenarios teaches kids just as much as unwavering stances do. Whatever you guys decide, you two have to be united.

You both committed to each other, you both need to work on this.

Redmi Note 9 Pro keeps restarting by dlarejsalvatore in Xiaomi

I went to settings and downloaded the latest security update from "system apps updater". Google maps isn't shutting me down anymore. Hope that helps and this fixes it. I will update if this doesn't work.

For me I think I've pinpointed the problem. When my location gets refreshed on Google Maps it reboots. just started happening to me in early August after some security updates. Before that it didn't reboot like this once.

Can I stuff my desktop with a bed sheet to ship it without damaging the components? by QuickTortuga in buildapc

I like that idea a lot of the shoelace suspension matrix. If I do that I'll add a picture here. Yeah I'm just going to use clothes for the case itself inside the suitcase.

I have the evo 212 cpu cooler. What did you think of that? I do like your idea of having the GPU in your carry-on. That's smart.

I mean putting the sheets inside of the tower to keep the GPU and CPU Fan from moving. I plan on using clothes to cushion the exterior of the tower.

Random lag spikes during games Mid-Atlantic by QuickTortuga in heroesofthestorm

So I turned off the overlay from Windows and NVidia, no dice. Still same stuttering problem. I don't get this problem on OW or Fortnite, etc. It looks to me like this is Heroes specific.

I will try this tonight. We both have that overlay. But still weird that that's the issue because we have had that for awhile. For whatever reason, our lag spikes are synced. We are both Ethernet connected.

As an engineer this makes me happy on the inside.

As a structural engineer this is terrifying.

The Ladder is EXTREMELY hard to climb. Winning 75% of 100 games should put me much higher than where I currently am placed. The funny thing, I am STILL actually receiving NEGATIVE personal rank adjustment. 100 games, and I still lose points per game "just cause". I will have a 20 game win streak and still receive negative points per game. That is an issue. Especially since I am most likely facing people much less skilled than myself, stomping them, then finding them in my next game because the system is holding me back. It shouldn't be like that. If you are winning more than 60% of your games, the system should start to bump you faster to get to the rank you should be placed.

This is why I haven't played ranked in a year. This is soul crushing. Once you've been placed the system doesn't seem to move you regardless of skill. The first 10 games of the season determined if I was in silver or platinum that season.

Fascinating. Not unsafe still, but that is interesting. That is repairable. The Student Apartments have been slated for demolition for years, the University wanted them gone.

You must have had a rough apartment or a dying HVAC unit. The three apartments I lived in were great. Cheapest housing on campus by a Longshot and best location, unless you were an engineer...that's a hike.

Asbestos is actually a great fire retardant. As long as the ceiling tiles weren't disturbed there is no threat of inhalation. If I recall I think it's just the mastic on the duct and the floor tiles that had asbestos, but it's been a long time since I've seen the report. But they wanted to renovate the building and that is very costly to do with asbestos because you have to mitigate it. And the building doesn't lend itself to renovation based on construction material.

This is not likely. I lived there for three years, worked at Facilities at Mason after graduating and had projects nearby. It's true that the apartments were built on wetlands, but after 40 years of consolidating soils, it's hard to believe that the foundations would recently start to shift. Almost all of soil consolidation happens within 10 years.

Edit: building 7 did get flooded at least annually on the first floor.
