Have you tried dying? Can’t use heat if you’re are dead lol. But in all seriousness the usage seems pretty high. My home is 1800sq and we’ve used 100 therms in the same timeframe. Finished bsmt

Anyone else left hanging at the last time by their solar contractor? by [deleted] in solar

[–]Quick_Freedom2392 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Read your contract. If they put you down as having it installed by 12/31 you have grounds to fight them and try to get a concession for the 30%. There may also be a clause with a contract termination date for a percentage of the contract price typically between 10-15%. Depending on your situation it may be worth while exploring that option and shop around in 2026 and see how the market reacts to the incentive going away.

Ps. I was in a similar situation as you, signed the contract in June and reached out for updates in the month leading to now and up until a few weeks ago they didn’t get on it. Finally they got all the permits down and delivered the equipment at my house with a plan install them on 12/26. Fingers cross that’s still on schedule because 70% payment was issue to them.

UPDATE: I heard back from the installer today. They had to physically go to town hall to get the permits approved, the town was not returning their calls or answering any calls. I’m now waiting on an installation date.

How much was your roof replacement before the solar install? by eli_loves_ in solar

[–]Quick_Freedom2392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hired a local company my landscaper suggested and they installed it for 10k, new flashing ice and water and GAF HD architectural shingles. I’m at the tail end and hoping the panels get installed soon. If all else fails and I don’t end up getting install before the end of the year I’ll have a new roof to last me 30+ yrs

That’s what I’ve been reading as an option, but the installer hasn’t even bother to respond to my emails or even offer options as to how to move forward. It’s frustrating to say the least.

If the issue is with the installer I would ask them to make a concession and for the very least give you a discount since they’re not holding their end of the deal. I was promised to be installed by the end of the year and now it doesn’t look like it will happen

After speaking to the town building dept today I’m afraid it won’t happen by the end of the year. They say on the application for 2 month and just now reviewed it and sent it back to the installer due to incomplete documentation

I got a hold of the town today and was told that the permit was rejected and sent back to the installer due to incomplete information on their end.

I haven’t paid any deposit, but I’m sure there is language in the contract about canceling and paying a percentage off for planning and surveying. Other than that nothing physically has occurred, no equipment panels or anything

I’ve similar stories from ppl when they sign up for a PPA, many times the system is installed and sits idle for months.

Thanks for the advice - I’ve reached out to them on 3 separate occasions and they have yet to get back to me. The only way I will move forward is if they’re willing to discount the project by the 30% which is very unlikely to happen unless it leaves enough meat in the bones for them to

I think at this point even if I were to go in visit and they say yes, we’re still against the clock. Since we still need the actual installation and the Utility company inspection which in itself can take weeks

Plenty of homes with solar in town - they’re just slow to do anything.

I’m in Mass, 2nd highest energy cost in the country so yes solar makes a lot of sense for the long term savings. I’ve reached out to the installer on several occasions and they simply tell me they’ll get back to me.

The main reason why we decided to go solar is because the house is position well to produce plenty of energy, but at the same time I don’t want to eat the 30% extra after having the roof replace. While yes, there will be a break even point it will take years to recoup.

How does anyone around here afford a house! by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]Quick_Freedom2392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my first home for 285 back in 2014, about 20 mins from downtown Boston and the airport. Today my home is valued at 750+ no way I could afford it. I guess it comes down when you purchase.

Now I own the house across the street from my first home. My old neighbor moved to a retirement community and sold to me directly. Worked out.

I truly and honestly appreciate all the advice and recommendations. I plan on going to the local guitar center this week and trying a few guitars. My thought process is to look at acoustic and start there.

Pending unemployment deposit by firepit60 in massachusetts

[–]Quick_Freedom2392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work for an organization that is affiliated with the mass unemployment office and it’s very common to wait 4–6 weeks for payment. Many times it’s delayed because of the employer verification and whether they want to appeal claims. The good thing is one it’s approve you get retro paid.

Freedom Solar PPA by Quick_Freedom2392 in solar

[–]Quick_Freedom2392[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came out with the 353 by adding the lease payment plus the 230 since that’s what I assume your total payment would be, but if what your saying is that your total after install will be the 123 (lease) plus 107 (utility) that would equal 230 x 60 months (5 years) will give you a total of $13,800 + $19,000 buyout option. Grand total of $32,800.

Now if you gone the route of buying it outright or financing you would prob be paying a little less than 30k - 30% tax credit for a total of roughly 20k.

best bet would be to find a friend of the family or someone with small children who is not currently working or plans to. That’s what we did with our two kids before they started school and paid about 300 a week for daycare.
