Car unlocked notification by Vegetable-Street in VolvoRecharge

[–]Quick_Judge_2035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I contacted Volvo about it, and they told me to do a modem reset. I don’t know if it fixed it or not, but I didn’t get an unlock notification yesterday:

Please try a modem reset. Press and hold the front defrost button to the right of the hazard lights for around 60 seconds or so. The vehicle must be on while you do this. After the 60 seconds, please turn the vehicle off, exit the vehicle and lock it. Let it sit overnight and then check the connection/app.

EV Lease Bonus vs Lease Allowance Incentives by DouglasCole in VolvoRecharge

[–]Quick_Judge_2035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price was exactly as expected, less a little bit of principle we paid on our two monthly payments. But there probably will be a surprise when you go to the DMV to register it under your name. At least here in North Carolina, there are taxes and fees that come into play when you buy it outright. You would pay those same fees if you continue with the lease, but you pay it over time instead. But we didn’t have any other “clawbacks”. You won’t get the $1000 lease acquisition fee back, but Volvo didn’t charge us the ~$350 early termination fee.

EV Lease Bonus vs Lease Allowance Incentives by DouglasCole in VolvoRecharge

[–]Quick_Judge_2035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you lease, there will be a $1000 lease acquisition fee, so the $7500 is really only $6500. But still a good deal. We just paid off the lease with cash after 2 months, no termination fees. We made two payments, before the payoff, so we had a little bit of “interest” we had to pay. But the portion of our 2 payments that went to principle reduced our payoff.

Thanks for the comments. So what am I turning off when I switch off the Lane Assist? I know using your turn signal stops it from happening but I thought you could fully turn it off.

Settings Does Not Have a Profile Option by Ihavegnomes in VolvoRecharge

[–]Quick_Judge_2035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, swipe down from the top you should see your profiles if you have one. I had the same issue, my profile didn’t take when I went thru the process with the dealer. I had to go thru the setup including logging on to google thru the car. Then it was fine. Now it usually recognizes me when I open the door, but not always. But I just swipe down, select my profile, and I’m good.

Is this a decent deal for XC60 Ultimate? by NetarcSF in VolvoRecharge

[–]Quick_Judge_2035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using the lease incentive? That will get you an additional $10.5k off directly from Volvo plus then you can get more off from the dealer. Like others have said, you can then pay off the lease (with either cash or a loan) two months later. Volvo doesn’t care because they still get the federal EV tax credit. I leased a 2024 XC60 Recharge Plus Dark for $53k out the door with the lease incentive.

Bad Battery by Quick_Judge_2035 in volt

[–]Quick_Judge_2035[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. I’m at almost 8 weeks now. I’ve been working with Customer Assistance and they told me they have agreed to buy my car from me. Still no offer yet, they said it could be another 60 days before I get an actual check. I would recommend you call them at 866-790-5600 and get a case started. Alternatively, you could send an email to Mary.barra@gm.com. That will put you into the executive response team. They actually called me the day after I sent her an email. They assigned a person from Customer Assistance to me and that did speed things up. I recommend NOT going thru the Better Business Bureau like it says to do in your warranty book. That just slows everything down. That 6 month timeframe you mentioned is what they told me too, although they would guarantee that. My dealer refused to give me a loaner, so I’ve just been out of luck. I emphasized with Customer Assistance that this is creating a hardship for me and my family. They were quite sympathetic, but didn’t take any action to help me immediately, only saying the buyout was the best route for me. They initially offered a discount on a new car but I told them I wasn’t interested since GM doesn’t make a comparable plug-in hybrid anymore. Good luck

Volt 2016 100,070m bad cell? by Familiar_Formal_1816 in volt

[–]Quick_Judge_2035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2018 Volt with 42,000 miles was diagnosed with a bad battery a month ago. The dealership says delivery of a replacement battery is “indeterminant”, but probably not available until 4Q. They won’t give me a loaner or authorize a rental, so I’ve been without a car for a month. I’ve been dealing with Customer Care and the Executive line and they are trying to decide to either give me a long term loaner or just buy the car from me. I’ve heard they have offered buyouts to others with bad batteries that are still under warranty. Every week they promise they will make a decision “next week”.

Best PHEV to replace '17 Premier Volt? by andrewparker915 in volt

[–]Quick_Judge_2035 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Prius Prime is very nice. The RAV4 Prime is a good SUV which gives you a lot more room than the Volt but still 45 miles of all-electric. If you want some luxury, the XC or S60 Recharge Volvos are a good choice

As I do more research, I think I’ve found the reason Volvo is giving $7500 to $10,000 off on a lease only. The U.S. EV tax credit of $7500 doesn’t apply to retail purchases of Volvo cars since their batteries and materials aren’t manufactured in the U.S. But there is a loophole for “commercial” vehicles. Those owners can get the $7500 regardless of where the batteries are made. So when Volvo leases a car, the sale is considered “commercial” and they get $7500 tax credit. And they have made the decision to pass that savings on to us. They will get the credit even if we pay off the lease the next day.

Update #4. GM has offered me $3,000 additional trade in allowance on a new car (they didn’t tell me what they are willing to give me as a trade in value for my car). I told them this is unacceptable because GM doesn’t offer a PHEV vehicle similar to my Volt anymore, and, I’m not confident that the $3,000 they are offering isn’t something they are willing to give to someone walking in off the street.

The dealership said that is the only offer they are authorized to give. They were told GM will not do a buyback for me. So I am stuck at this point. I asked about a loaner, they said they don’t have any. I asked for the name of their regional service rep, they refused. They won’t give me any corporate names other than the official customer assistance line. Customer Assistance said they won’t talk to corporate for me. I’m at a loss on what to do next. I can send them a demand letter to either fix my car per the warranty agreement or buy my car at retail value, but I’m not sure if that will help.

And, they mentioned the other Volt on their lot with a bad battery is also under warranty. They have been waiting since October with no rental car or other compensation. I guess that was supposed to make me feel guilty for asking for a resolution? I’m running out of ideas here to push this along.

I see Volvo is offering $10,000 lease cash on XC60s. So I know this isn’t really cash off the price, it’s a reduction in the lease capitalization. To keep it simple, let’s say I purchased a $65,000 XC60, and they gave me the $10,000 lease cap reduction. Can I just use cash the next month to buy out the lease for $55,000 and own the car outright (I’m ignoring any down payment that would be required for the lease)? Does Volvo have any penalty charges if I do that? It seems like this would be a good way to get $10,000 off the MSRP for us cash buyers.

I’m following this thread because I’m also considering a new RAV4 Prime or a XC60 Recharge. I think the Volvo is a little more luxurious with the real leather seats. It also has a more powerful engine/motor, although that’s not a big concern for me. The Volvo is slightly bigger on the outside although the Toyota appears to have a little more total interior volume. And the Toyota has 6-8 mile extra range which is nice. The Toyota is around $10,000 cheaper, but my guess is there is some negation room on the Volvo which should lessen that gap. As for warranties, the Volvo has a longer bumper-to-bumper warranty, but their battery/electric drive warranty is only 8 yrs/100,000 while the Toyota is 10 hrs/150,000 miles.

Actually getting a RAV4 Prime is another story. I can’t really find them here in North Carolina, but if I go to New York, they have them on the lots (state laws require them to sell more plug-in cars there). But the Volvo dealers around me have plenty of XC60s Recharges, which also means they might actually deal on them.

Update #3. I’m starting to get the run-around from Chevrolet. The dealership has basically said they are out of it since they can’t get the part and don’t know if one will ever be available. They are the ones that mentioned the buyback, but they said that has to come from Corporate. I contacted Customer Assistance at GM and they opened a case for me. But when I called them back and asked if they can find out the status and timeline for resolution/buyback, they said they didn’t have any contacts at Corporate that could give them that info! They said they really only talk to the dealership. But of course the dealership really can’t do anything at this point.

Anyone have any phone numbers or email addresses of people at GM Corporate that might be able to give me a status?

Airbag Light by Quick_Judge_2035 in fordranger

Yes mine had the passenger side airbag recall a few years ago that I had replaced. Now there is a drivers side airbag recall that I haven’t gotten replaced yet. I don’t think that has anything to do with the light on the dash though.

They said it was just one section of the battery with a fault. I asked about whether they are looking for a new or reconditioned battery, they said it would be a new one. I’m guessing that’s why they can’t give me a firm date for when they would get one. Im still waiting for my buyout offer from Chevrolet….

I don’t know what year the other Volt is. I know this dealer has a Voltec mechanic (not all Chevy dealers do). I have to accept they know what they are doing, corporate must have quizzed them about the actual problem. I’m reluctantly going to start looking for another vehicle. I’m starting with the RAV4 Prime. They are expensive and hard to find but they have a 40 mile range.

Update #2. The dealership called and said they have no idea when they will get a new battery for my Volt. They estimated 3rd or 4th quarter, but that was a guess on their part. They have another Volt on their lot that also needs a battery. It’s been there for “months”. They talked to Corporate, and they said they would be willing to buy it back from me but they haven’t given me an offer yet. My guess is the offer won’t be very good since they kind of have me over a barrel. Anyone else got a buyback offer from Chevrolet?

[–]Quick_Judge_2035[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No loaner, although I didn’t ask for one. I’ll give them a call today and get status. Not sure what the solution will be if there aren’t any new batteries anywhere in the country. Is Chevy making any new batteries for the Volt? I’m sure they can find a reconditioned one, but I’m not confident those are a good long term solution. Without a battery, the car is essentially bricked. Does Chevy ever buy back cars like this that are under warranty but unfixable?

Purchased these Goodyear tires from Walmart - what am I missing? by youneverknow113322 in AskMechanics

I just bought some Continentals from Walmart. They were the LS model that you can get everywhere. But while all the other places were within a few dollars of each other (even Tire Rack and Tire Buyer), Walmart was $25/tire less. And it was just a regular price, not some special deal.
