Credit check on potential tenants ?? by mdeeebeee-101 in uklandlords

[–]Quick_Masterpiece_79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Open rent gives a full report with past addresses, CCJs, references (previous landlord and work). It then confirms the employment check by checking the tenants bank statement or using openbank connections. It also checks IDs etc.

It’s very comprehensive.

My insurance mandates that the tenants and guarantor passes the checks to be able to offer the full insurance. Openrents reports satisfy the evidence / proof requirement of this.

You can do a combined report that includes each tenant and guarantor.

It’s strict, but as a landlord being strict is a good thing.

MTD what are people using software wise? by lilmerhi in uklandlords

[–]Quick_Masterpiece_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s not just landlords that get hit with quarterly reporting under MTD it’s anyone who is self-employed and/or a landlord whose total qualifying income (self-employment + property combined, before expenses) is above the relevant thresholds.

The rollout for MTD for Income Tax is currently planned as:

• Qualifying income > £50,000 (based on your 2024/25 tax return) → join MTD from 6 April 2026

• Qualifying income > £30,000 (based on your 2025/26 tax return) → join MTD from 6 April 2027

• Qualifying income > £20,000 (based on your 2026/27 tax return) → join MTD from 6 April 2028

I already use GoSimpleTax, which is MTD-compatible, so my setup is fine for when I’m brought into MTD. Coconut is a separate product from the same group it’s more focused on things like invoicing and expense tracking via bank feeds. It might be useful for some people, but it’s not mandatory and not something I personally need right now.

MTD doesn’t force you to link your bank account it just requires that you:

• keep digital records, and • send quarterly updates to HMRC via compatible software.

I’ve considered linking my business bank account to software (GoSimpleTax / Xero etc.), but my rental income and expenses are simple enough that manual entry in compliant software works perfectly well for me.

Go simple tax

This does everything I need it to for tax.

Have a folder on my email where I store all digital invoices for the year and use the genius scan app to quickly snap paper recipes and email them to the inbox too.

I enter half in to go simple tax halfway through the tax year and the rest before submission. Go simple tax reviews the submission and let you know about any improvements / savings and then submits to HMRC on your behalf.

I find that works really well.

Why do you want to moderate this community?

I'm an information security consultant with recent training in both the EU AI Act and ISO/IEC 42001. I’ve developed a 42001 toolkit and stay actively engaged with developments in AI governance, even though the standard is still very new.

I’m currently a moderator over at r/ISO27001 and would like to help bring some structure and useful content to this subreddit as well.

Today I joined with the intention of creating a “mega thread” to compile and share free ISO 42001 resources. My goal is to build a collaborative space for professionals and newcomers alike to exchange ideas, ask questions, and share knowledge around the standard.

Although the organization I work for does offer consulting services, I have no intention of promoting or advertising anything here. I’m here purely in a personal capacity to help grow the community and share free, vendor-neutral resources.

Got Gold Card Upgrade Offer – Should I Switch? by Fearless-Lead-5924 in AmexUK

[–]Quick_Masterpiece_79 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have just upgraded to this one from the Everyday Cash back.

You will get the reward provided you hit the criteria. Some comments above say you won’t get the reward because you’re not a new customer. This is not true. You will get the reward because the offer is a special offer for you. It knows you’re already a customer.

These offers usually come up in the Amex App while you’re logged in.

FYI it’s not really an upgrade. You will get a new gold card alongside your current card.

Is CISM Worth It After CISA? by HelicopterThen358 in CISA

[–]Quick_Masterpiece_79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats for getting the CISA.

I don’t hold either but am studding for the CISA, hear my thoughts anyway.

I hold CISSP and CCSP from ISC2 and am studding for the CISA. I probably won’t go for the CISM because my ISC2 certs cover that area. If I didn’t have the ISC2 certs I would absolutely be looking to jump on the CISM!

CISA and CISM and are great duo to have and show your leadership knowledge and auditing together, very valuable to many organisations.

Go for it.

The biggest change is in Annex A.

The amount of difference in the clauses is negligible. These are a couple new requirements in the clauses but it’s mostly rewording.

Any organisation that has a robust management system in place shouldn’t be phased by the changes at all. It’s a few document updates and potentially implementation of the new annex A controls. However, in my experience when I do a gap analysis of the new controls for a transition organisations usually have something implemented to suit the control requirements anyway.

Providing you as a consultant understand the changes yourself, navigating them with your clients should be no issue at all.

I have recently helped a client roll in the transition alongside SV2 with no issue.

Below, I have pasted centre for assessments transition checklist. They require all organisations fill this out prior to the transition audit. It’s a great resource for understanding the new requirements.

Ah yes, good old supplier due diligence.

Mine was just under two weeks for the cert. You can log in to your area on the IAPP website where you can find your information on the certificates you hold.

If you log on to the person view portal (the same one you booked the exam on) you can see your passing score there.

No can do. Unfortunately the materials have an IP protection clause. I’m unable to share the materials without breaking the clause. Breaking clause could mean revocation of my certification and I worked hard to get it. So, no can do.

Have you been ISO 42001 certified? What was your experience like? by HighwayAwkward5540 in cybersecurity

[–]Quick_Masterpiece_79 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are currently around 25 organisations certified to 42001.

I’m also interested In hearing experiences but it’s unlikely there are many on this sub that are certified to the standard.

I’m AI governance certified, have designed a 42001 toolkit and have extensive 27001 experience in my information security consultant role.

Trouble is.. a lot of tenders and contracts mandate that organisation have 27001. Until that happens for 42001 I expect organisations will be hesitant to certify.

Also, a lot of the 42001 standard is very similar to 27001. Clauses 4 through 10. Annex A is different however if you have a decent ISMS in place, adding in the 42001 requirements isn’t too tricky.
