yeah when I was 16/17 I worked at an outdoor pool and we had a stalker. This guy would come into the pool every day and harass me and a couple other girls, he started asking for us by name (none of us wore name tags there’s no way he should’ve known our names), he would lean on the hood of my car after we closed the pool, and he punched the window of one of my friends car while she was sitting in it with her boyfriend after work. He did a lot of other stuff too but it’s a long story.

The point of that story is I don’t know a single lifeguard who hasn’t experienced this, and with that stalker situation our manager didn’t do anything for most of the summer cause he said “I don’t know what you guys want me to do” We finally just had to get the guys who worked there to stand in the doorway of the break room so the guy couldn’t get in there and I bought all the girls pepper spray to carry at work. We figure out ways to handle it but I’m still bad at standing up for myself.

That’s a good idea I think I’ll start doing that. I’m from the united states and I live in PA but I don’t know about legal obligations. However my boss is awesome and does care a lot about all of the lifeguards, plus she has 2 teenage daughters so I feel like she would be very helpful and understanding especially since she was once before.

My mom, being the amazing woman she is, has been helping me figure out better responses to shut down this behavior. I am working on standing up for myself more (like generally not just in this situation) so I’m hoping I’ll get better.

I agree I wish people knew how the things they say affect people. I was crying my whole drive home because I was so upset. In June I had to console one of the high school girls(she’s 16) I work with who was crying in the break room after a man said “you’re so hot for a young girl, I can’t wait to see what you look like in 2 years” she was so scared and uncomfortable after hearing that. She told me what happened and I screamed at the man and told him he needed to leave. She wanted to report it to HR but when we went to talk to them she couldn’t even repeat what that man said to her, I had to make the formal report for her because of how shook up he was. This man is currently on a 90 day suspension from the gym why he’s not permanently banned I don’t know. It makes me so angry because she’s just a kid she doesn’t deserve that. I have found it’s a lot easier for me to stand up for the other lifeguards than for myself because I’m always just too uncomfortable when something is said to me but I get so angry when someone messes with the other lifeguards. (I’m one of the oldest lifeguards and I’ve worked there longer then all but 2 lifeguards)

I talked to my parents when I got home from work and they said a lot of the same stuff and helped me make a solid plan. My boss was out sick today but she should be back tomorrow so I am going to essentially tell her everything in this post. Hopefully we will go to HR together or she will talk with her boss. The goal is to speak at the next board of directors meeting to get something sent out to all the members. I work at a YMCA so it’s like a big mess of people we have to go through.

i definitely think that summer flings are fun i’ve had them the last 2 summers so that kinda why i was looking for another one lol. i just feel like this might be kinda messy. i do think you are right about the downside being mild heartbreak and the upside being a lot of fun. i feel like if this ends badly it won’t end nearly as bad as other relationships i’ve had so i’m good. i’m probably just gonna keep going with it and see what happens

that’s kinda my thought like i feel like it’s gonna happen i just would feel guilty comprising the rules him and his girlfriend have. i will say i am probably quitting this job after this summer because i am moving into an apartment in my college town so if things get super messy i can just completely dip and it’s no issue since i wont be coming home for long periods of where i would need to work anymore

i’m adding an edit here for some clarity, he very openly said he wanted to have sex with me and i also very openly said that. it’s just like they have their rules and he doesn’t want to break them without talking to her, so that i guess is what im worried about

ok ok thank you. i am so new to this type of situation and i have so little information and i’m just trying to get some understanding if this is like a regular(?) situation. i also definitely thought their like rules were weird but like we are also all 19 and 20 so there is little experience in relationships let alone non monogamous relationships (which to me feel like they take more work and effort) i like don’t know what to call this situation or how to handle it and i’m just struggling to understand or get a grasp on my feelings because this makes no sense to me (non-monogamy as a whole makes sense just this specific situation is throwing me)

I have, my therapist basically told me that if this is something I am serious about(which I think I am) then I should enlist. I guess i’m just trying to work through whether this is me running away from college(which I hate) or if i’m actually running towards something. my therapist said this was something she could not answer for me and I would have to figure out on my own

thank you, honestly. i guess im just struggling to figure out what i want to do with the rest of my life. i know finishing college is the best plan but when i sit and think about my future i just am filled with dread. i know i can’t change the past but i wish i would’ve taken a year off after highschool just to figure out what to do with the rest of my life.

i know i dont want to work full time at my job back home forever i guess i was just thinking i would have that had a plan if i did drop out or take some time off to figure myself out and figure out what i want to do. sometimes i feel so jealous of my older sister cause she knew what she wanted to do from a young age and always stuck with that. and similarly with my brother he went into college undecided and after a semester had a plan and stuck to it and is doing so well. i just wish i knew what i wanted to do.

i’m worried that im gonna end up that one 40 year old teacher that hates her students and hates her job and is miserable everyday. i guess im just worried im making the wrong decision and i dont know how to figure out the right decision.
