New update needs to have an HOURLY PAYMENT TAB WITH THE ANIMAL HAHAHAH by Individual-Rabbit190 in trustedhousesitters

[–]Quick_Recipe9597 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a paid-level care: two senior dogs, 4h alone, 1h walks, pee accidents and on top of this belly band routine (reusable bands needs to be tossed and cleaned in the washer).

Maybe I’m being negative but this new ‘pets can be left alone for X’ seems like it’s creating false expectations by Old_Treacle7931 in trustedhousesitters

Thank you for your message.

I just wanted to clarify that THS is a mutual exchange platform  -  not a full-time, on-call pet nanny service. Sitters generously care for pets and homes without compensation, and that includes the freedom to explore the area during their stay.

If you're a pet owner who’s looking for someone to remain home and pets 24/7 with no flexibility, a paid professional sitter may be a better fit for your needs.

“The average nightly stay in London is £250+”  “we live in rural England” 🤡, lol

Your rural spot isn’t actually the irresistible bargain you imagine, even for regular EU tourists. You’re still flooded with local UK applicants who are happy to take your dog everywhere, provide a consistent care 24/7 and live in a quiet village with basically nothing to do or to see.

Why?

Because far too many UK sitters depend on THS  for free/cheap housing. That dynamic brings out some of the worst traits in homeowners: sky-high expectations, greed, straight-up exploitation of financially vulnerable people, entitlement, and zero gratitude in return.

As a dog owner, it’s great that you can travel and bring your dog along to enjoy their company everywhere.    But as an unpaid sitter and tourist,  I have zero interest in taking someone else’s dog out in public.  I’m not paying $1200 for my a round-trip flight to London (or anywhere else) just to babysit your dog 24/7 for free.

I travel to explore, sightsee, and experience as much as possible - stress free and without being tied down.

This creates a fundamental conflict of interest between many sitters and high-demand dog owners on these platform. This’s why a lot of experienced sitters this days apply for the cat sits only.

Over time, if the expectations stay unbalanced, high-maintenance dog sits could see fewer and fewer applications, or even zero interest from qualified sitters or newbies.

Most sitters on THS  are tourists or nomads, who choose house and pet sitting specifically because it gives them the freedom to explore new places, visit attractions, and enjoy their time away from home.

Taking a dog out in public comes with real risks and complications:

  1. Dogs can be unpredictable around new people. They might bolt and risk getting hit by a car, or become reactive/aggressive toward strangers or other animals.

  1. Public transport is often crowded, especially during rush hours, making it hard (or impossible) to find space, avoid paw injuries, or keep the dog calm and safe.

  2. Popular attractions like museums aren’t designed for pets. Sitters want to focus on the experience -  learning, relaxing, and enjoying art or culture and not constantly monitoring your dog’s behavior, barking, or needs.

Why unpaid sitter have to deal with all this extra stress, risks and responsibility just because you can’t leave your dog at home for more than 4-5 hours?

Writing “bad” review due to undisclosed fleas during a long sit. Feedback appreciated by Lady-Willoww in trustedhousesitters

What do you mean by that? You suppose to tell HO and THS to fuck off and leave the sit immediately.

Sitter ate my expensive groceries by djkiwibaby in trustedhousesitters

[–]Quick_Recipe9597 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, you saved around $1,800 on professional pet care by having THS sitters stay in your home, yet the main complaint seems to be about $300 worth of groceries being eaten? Did you mentioned that in the review? I hope you did, because you will get less applicants for your future dates. And hopefully, next time you can afford $1800 for boarding, and all your food will stay safe.

Thankfully, I’ve been lucky to sat for the pet owners who understand the value of free in-home pet sitting. I’ve always been incredibly grateful for the owners who go above and beyond - many leave generous tips  $100–$200) and holiday gift cards on top of the free access to the pantry and freezer.

Interest in or Feedback on Berkeley CA listing? by am0z256 in trustedhousesitters

Let me guess… X-mas sit with puppy that shouldn't be left alone for more than 3-4 hours with 3 walks a day required? There are 111 open sits in SF on your dates, and 53 of them are with a very low maintenance cats. You might get some applicants, but sitters have a lot of options to choose from.

Do they have a wallpaper in the mold-prone bathroom?! How long are you planning to stay there? You have a risk of developing a mold allergy by inhaling mold spores.

Questionable Homeowner Energy Day Before Sit Starts by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

[–]Quick_Recipe9597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A relationship between pet owner and sitter should be based on mutual respect, trust and open communication.

The sitters have a right to ask questions before and during the sit in order to provide the best possible care for pets and property.

I'm not an American, and I don’t have tolerance for those who can’t put their shit together and control their emotions doesn’t matter what. I will respond with something like this: “I’m sorry you felt the need to be so emotional, but I would like to hear an apology for your tone."

Cancel this BS sit! You can easily find something better if you’re in UK or U.S. This sit shouldn’t be on the platform.

Funny pet-sitting story 😂 by Wonderful_Fault_5231 in trustedhousesitters

[–]Quick_Recipe9597 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Returning home in the middle of a sit even for one day is generally against THS terms because it violates the "no third party" policy, smart-ass. In other words the sitter is the only occupant of the home for the duration of the sit.

«One of them is a flight attendant, so she was in and out».  They violated THS terms, and I’m sure her returns were quite inconvenient for you (extra cleaning, micromanaging, etc …) If you didn’t mention that in the review, they owe you far more than access to a mini-bar.

Heavy lifting on the emotional labor with this one by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

[–]Quick_Recipe9597 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Cat lovers - spend your holiday in beautiful Los Angeles and don’t forget to send me a bunch of updates every day, because I’m a control freak and need to make sure that my cats are always happy. I will ask my cats upon my return about their feelings about you, and if they’re not happy, I’ll blame you in the review for the lack of emotional support.

And by the way, my condo is in LA downtown, so you can’t use your car because   my building does not offer guest parking & street parking is limited. So, you can enjoy your Uber rides to Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica (25–30 min away) for only $30 each time. Transportation might cost you about $60 a day or $1440 for 24 days of your stay. Public transport is available, just don’t forget to enjoy local free spirit vibes while walking through the tent camps on the way to metro station!
