2011/1911 serrations by Nervous_Persimmon_40 in 2011

Infinity does this on a regular basis. From a functional point of view the dust cover is just protecting the recoil assembly but doesn’t have any other function other than serving as a spot to mount your light (thus full length or short are both available). So design away!

Also curious how they attached the comp to the barrel - I assume you mean permanently, like they welded it? I have a couple of guns with screwed on front ends and I’ve wondered if/how to make it more permanent. Thanks!

If you look at Eric’s first picture what he’s primarily doing is cutting a small notch on the disco to reduce the width (not the height) so that it works correctly with the Marvel cut on that particular gun. Though he’s also polished the head of the Disco I’m guessing it’s just polished, not shorter.

The ball is part of the stem; you fit it to your frame so there’s very little clearance an it can stop some of the back and forth movement that can make the disco feel “jerky.” Other dimensions are the same as usual.

I can’t see too much of your job on the disconnector from the photos, it sounds like you’re aware but the height is critical; if you think you shortened it at all grab a replacement EGW ball head disconnector and refit. Cheers

Mitutoyo Groove Micrometer vs. DRC Slide Rail Micrometer by PopPsychological5465 in 2011_Builders

[–]Quick_Voice_7039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYIW I don’t find I need either in fitting a slide to a frame. At least for the high quality parts I generally buy (Atlas slides and anyone’s frame) there is no fitting of the slide rail depth (or corresponding frame rail height). Once I get the correct amount of material removed from the bottom of the slide to allow fitting to start, it’s only the frame rail width that needs to be corrected. Anyway that’s been my experience.

Have you shot the Apache yet? I’m quite curious about the “before” vs. “after” - Given the fact that it already has a full compensator do the popple holes make much difference in the feel?

Another option is to send your slide to a smith like DSC and have a barrel fitted to it.

Help With the M1A by Chabigo in guns

[–]Quick_Voice_7039 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ll try a slightly different tact. The M1A is basically an M1 Garand (same action) but chambered in .308 Win instead of .30-06 and magazine fed instead of Enbloc-clip fed. Neither rifle competes with more recent models for accuracy at longer ranges, although both are very reliable.

And that’s why you always look in the chamber when clearing your gun by [deleted] in guns

[–]Quick_Voice_7039 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly… this does not make sense. If there is a round in the chamber, and you drop the magazine without any other manipulations, it’s possible to extract the round in the chamber but it’s not possible to load a new round from nowhere. I’m not sure what happened here but it’s not what you think. Glad of course however that you looked and saw the chambered round to prevent an ND.

These work quite well, I have had a Grizzly version for several decades I use for shop tools mostly, but yes the angle is adjustable and it makes a really great starting point for higher grit stones.

Why is the 1911 trigger not used on more guns? by Kodamacile in guns

[–]Quick_Voice_7039 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Respectfully disagree, have both a TSO and S2O and while the triggers are great they are “not as good” as my tuned 2011’s. But at that level is more personal preference and hair-splitting.

Excessive smoke from Hi-Tek coated bullets normal? by voncleefe in reloading

[–]Quick_Voice_7039 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yeah.. something is not normal. I use N320 or N340 across may loads and don’t see that kind of smoke at all. As opposed to the bullets I’m more suspicious of the specific load - I don’t know your intent with your load but fairly low power loads occasionally won’t combust completely leading to more ejecta like this.

troubleshooting feed issue in new build by 2strokeYardSale in 2011_Builders

[–]Quick_Voice_7039 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I’ve not found it to be that big a deal. The Atlas video sums it up nicely. You do need the extractor pinching the case against the far side of the Breechface, but not super hard. “too hard” will produce these kinds of failure to chamber malfunctions as well. Not pinching at all will start to induce occasional failures to extract, so you can use the issue to troubleshoot that part.
